Sea Foam Vs Lucas Fuel Treatment Experiment Part 1 of 2

  • This experiment will take place over the course of one month and I will be adding two can's in total to both vehicles. It's important to note that the 2013 GMC Sierra has it's original spark plugs and is averaging 15.2 miles per gallon currently and that the Mercury Mariner has recently replaced spark plugs and is averaging 20.2 MPG. I would like to see any difference between the two over the course of one month. The Mariner will be running the Sea Foam Treatment ( Fuel Tank Additive Only) and the GMC will be running the Lucas Treatment ( Fuel Tank Additive Only) over the course of 30 day. Next month we will revisit both vehicles and be looking at the carbon build up or break down of both vehicles and assessing what difference's they made if any. One can is not enough in order to determine whether or not either one of these products are worth it. I do not recommend adding any additive to a already high mileage vehicle. These products were intended to be preventative maintenance items. Not fix my old A#$ car treatments. It needs to be done over time and at a somewhat young millage in order to see any results. Food for thought. If not you could be looking at catastrophic failure. Which could end up costing you hundreds if not thousands of dollars. Keep that in mind prior to adding this additive to your vehicle. Thanks as always for watching and we'll see you next time. Cheers!
This video was not intended to annoy or upset any You Tuber that has made a Similar video. This video is entirely experimental and of one opinion on a similar product. I further more do not advise that everyone go out and purchase any similar product based on this video. This is an experiment and nothing further. Special Thanks to Chris Fix and BMAC Vags who have done a similar comparison of these products. Links to their channels are listed below as swell as links to the product used throughout the video. Interesting idea. I like it justin itll show the use of these cleaners if it helps cars or no difference. I agree with the idea of one use will not be enough to complete the cleaning or process but by using it over time it might work. Its interesting and I cant wait to see what comes out of it!

I used to do the "Water Torture" cylinder cleaning method on my 300k mile 1985 Volvo 240. The throttle body was gummed all to hell when I first bought her, so I can only imagine how the valves and pistons looked. Basically I would introduce small amounts of water into the intake manifold via a T'd off vacuum hose. I always warmed her up and Reved it up to 2k RPM's and slowly introduced water into the intake in very small amounts. Theory was that it would steam clean the pistons and valves. Seemed to work great. It would blow smoke like crazy while doing it, but never fouled the plugs or damaged the engine. Cat never clogged up and she always ran better afterwards. Wish I would have had a boroscope at the time to visually verify it was doing anything. I will look forward to seeing your long-term test results.

I put Seafoam in every but my weedeater and chainsaw. It is FREAKING AWESOME in powersports for cleaning the carbs. Hell I even use it in my lawnmower. And I always put some in my engine oil at every oil change. I had a truck that when I got it had 1,50k miles on it that was well maintained and maintenance. I dumped a whole can of seafome in the oil and drove it normal every day for 2 weeks. When I changed the oil there was so much crap in the oil pan I had to remove the pan. I used Seafoam EVERY oil change (half a can in the new oil) for the rest of that motors life. At 300K Miles I was running the F*** out of the truck trying to get to a house fire. A wrest pun opening in one of the pistons cracked. I pulled the engine and tour it down. That engine was clean as could be inside. Sorry for the long comment. ✌✌🤛

Great Comment! Love the long term use experience that everyone has had. I'll be sure to re-visit everyone's experience and share a few on part two.

I'm curious of the results that your going to get. Because some of the brands of fuel system cleaners can be a bit on the pricey side. I don't use them anymore because of price and not really knowing if they were doing what they are supposed to do. I've tried most of them I'm sure of that. I'm not being a hater I just want to know if any of these products are able to do what is stated on the labels. Thank you for taking the time to do this!

I’ve used seafoam for years and recently just tried the Lucas engine treatment via fuel tank I saw improvement on my average mpg which is great. Used my scope but obviously when looking at the piston head for carbon cleaning one can isn’t gonna do a huge difference

The best effectiveness as far ive experienced is to make sure youre car is on empty then add lucas, and then gas. I see alot of people adding injector cleaner with a full tank. Then wonder why its not effective. I honestly can say lucas in my 2019 hond civic lx been great in my engine, and i travel out of town alot. Ive used seafoam ,but lucas responds better, and is more engine friendly as far as my car goes.

Good job trying to keep it as fair of a comparison as possible while considering (time/massive number of variables) only thing I would recommend is to go with mileage rather than time and inspect 2 cylinders per vehicle rather than just 1 (ideally separate banks) P.S. i was hoping you would mention a scope. 😉👌🏼👍🏼 haha

Will you switch the products next month to see if one gets better results? Put the Lucas in the other vehicle and do the same with the Seafoam.

If a catch can is improvised with an integral mesh filter, only gaseous blowby, and not oil droplets will enter the intake manifold.
But, oil can still weep through the valve seals via. vacuum, and this may or may not be normal.
I feel the Car Wizard showed us the best way, by using a carbon dissolver and filling each closed vale(s) port, then blowing out the dissolved carbon into a shop rag.
BUt GDI is too cool to abandon.

I just bought a 95 dodge ram I just put new oil, spark plugs, and air filter in. I bought some of the Lucas oil complete treatment. I was a lil bit concerned cuz she was burning bad from the exhaust after I put it in. Plus the truck has over 200 thousand miles. The next day it wasn't burning at all. Not really sure how many miles to the gallon she gets tho. I'm sure its probly around 15 I'm guessing
