I’m curious to hear your thoughts on the “We done with the 90s” trend that’s been circulating thru NBA spaces the last few weeks. I think it’s hilarious to see but gravely dangerous to the convo to be had about the game.
@@AC12246Basically a bunch of young idiots hating on the 90s to retaliate against the old idiots who hate the modern gen Id stay outta it since it is filled with a bunch of dummies
the trend is legit, I grew up watching the entire 90s era. nostalgia plays a part, if anybody has the nba league pass please watch those games. The level of skill is massive aside from the generational talents from those era. you will never find a guy like steph curry moving off the ball most guys were standing around off the ball slightly shifting or clogging the paint.
@@avengerkill809 lol Curry wouldn't be able to move as freely with hand checking not to mention shooting 3s at a high clip was frowned upon so Curry wouldn't play like he does now. 🗑 take
@@tdup191 if guys like John Stanton with no left hands can play during that era then Steph curry would destroyed defense with his off the ba movement and coming off screens. Reggie Miller took MJ and bulls to 7 games, Steph curry would've been a nightmare for defense. Shooting 3s was not frowned upon mf just couldn't make it. Reggie was taking almost 5 shots from 3 per game and he's nowhere near as efficient as a shooter as curry. You sound like you don't know basketball.
Remember to also keep in mind that players perform better at home with the support of the crowd. This is also true for points not just the subjective stats.
The NBA games are now rigged by how free throws are (or not) awarded. Sometimes a team will get more while the other team does not for similar fouls. Its subtle but it works.
The most egregious stat-padding the NBA does today is in the assist numbers, that's why triple-doubles have somewhat became the norm for superstars in the league or almost every week you see at least one player have one. Traditionally, an assist counts after a player scores directly or immediately after a pass from a teammate. But now, a player can do iso dribbles, then take a couple more steps then score off a pass from a teammate and it would still count as an assist.
@@Kamylamy nope. like I said, traditionally, if a scoring player does extra movements like iso dribbles, a bunch of steps right after the pass, it does not count as an assist unlike today. you only need to see Tyrese Haliburton's record-breaking 32 assist game for that. and to help you understand that, here's the actual link - ruclips.net/video/MR-abuQovp8/видео.html , then at the 25-second mark, when Tyrese passed to Turner, that play wouldn't have counted as an assist in the 90's and early 2000's because Turner right after getting the pass behind the 3-point line, instead of shooting the ball, took a pump fake, then a couple of dribbles and a few more steps for the layup. if you watched basketball during those era's and compared it from today, you would know the difference....
@@PapaMatt107You clearly have no idea what youre talking about. That assist at 25 seconds is dubious for sure, but you can't say that about a single one of the other assists in the video, which you obviously didn't watch. There weren't 32 assists in a game, it was over the course of two games as you can clearly see by the bright red court at just over the minute and a half mark lol. Why would you cite a video you didn't even watch as evidence for your argument? Shit doesn't make sense. And calling it a "record-breaking 32 assist game" shows you didn't watch much of the video you're commenting on because it mentioned the actual record holding 30 assist game (from the 90s) and how it's likely fraudulent. In fact, this whole video is about how stats such as assists were routinely manipulated during the 90s, 2000s, and before (Nick van Exel, John Stockton), and how this wasn't combated until 2010. So did you even watch the video you're commenting on at all? lmao
@@Дэвид-и2ъ clearly your reading comprehension was off. I did watched the whole video clip and I know it was in a span of two games, which was in fact still a record for a two-game stretch of most assist without a turnover, so I just stated you facts. and I never said all or most of those assists were dubious that's why I only stated one as an example. If you haven't actually watched the games during the 80's, 90's, early 2000's like most of us old folks did, you won't have perspective to compare with how it was today. so it was you who had no clue what you're saying that's why you can't see my point. which is, like you said, today's stats are manipulated to an extent that it became the norm unlike before when it was only done to a handful of stars and players. if you still don't get what I'm saying, Josh Hart just had a triple-double at home against the Sixers. still don't get my point? today.... everybody can get a triple-double because that's how manipulated stat keeping is unlike before when it was just reserved for the true stars of the game.
@@PapaMatt107You can just admit you were wrong dude lmao. You called it a game, singular, and clearly meant it that way. You said "that play wouldn't have counted as an assist in the 90's and early 2000's" when there's an even more egregious example of an inflated assist in this video for Nick van Exel in the 90s. Now you're saying it did happen, but just for some people which would be good goalpost moving if you were having this conversation verbally and not over text where I can see exactly what you previously argued. "so it was you who had no clue what you're saying that's why you can't see my point" is a pretty silly thing to say while you change your arguments lol. It's possible you meant the things you're saying, but you certainly didn't say them or provide any reason for someone to think otherwise. For the record I've watched plenty of regular season games from those decades and full playoff series as well. I have a better idea than most how those games went. "today's stats are manipulated to an extent that it became the norm unlike before when it was only done to a handful of stars and players" This video actually shows the average assist totals for away vs home teams, and the first time in league history it was an even ratio was after the 2010 rule implementation. This shows less bias in today's calls, not more, and to directly address your point this data indicates that entire teams (not a few individual players) directly benefited from phantom assists. Josh Hart getting a triple double is the result of being a good basketball player and being on the floor for a long time, not conspiratorial stat padding. You're talking about a guy that has 65 career double doubles while only being a starter in 195 of his career games. A person who gets double doubles in 15% of his total games that has averaged more than 4 assists per game in multiple years is liable to get a triple double when you hand them 39 minutes in a 48 minute game. In fact, he's had two other triple doubles and his minutes for all three averages to 41.5. Just to remind you, "triple-doubles have somewhat became the norm for superstars" was your original argument. You followed that up with "almost every week you see at least one player have one." There are 52 games this week alone, so just one player doing that doesn't really sound like some horrible epidemic in context. Triple doubles are only "somewhat" the norm for a handful of players now, like you said before, but now you're saying "everybody can get a triple-double" which is a massive leap in argument from really anything in your other comments. Oscar Robertson and Magic are 2nd and 3rd in triple double totals over their careers. Jason Kidd, Wilt, and Bird are also top 10 for that stat. There have always been elite heliocentric players in the NBA that routinely scored triple doubles. There are certainly more of these types of players in today's game, and the statline is absolutely more common, but that's a testament to the overall skill of the league's players dramatically increasing over the years. It's immensely more difficult to make it to the NBA in 2024 than it was in the 90s. The level and quality of training has gone way up, the sport has become more accessible internationally, and kids are taking it up as their primary sport earlier and earlier. The style of coaching has changed a lot since the 2000s, which was different from the 90s, and the 80s, and so on. The rules have changed to allow players more opportunities on offense. In 2024 we're talking about a league where the 7th option on a team might be a 40% 3 point shooter, and where 7 footers who can't shoot have been almost entirely phased out. Furthermore, if you actually look at the numbers you would see that the team with the most assists per game in 2004 was the Sacramento Kings at 25.8 a game. Last year it was the Warriors at 29.6. Not even a four assist difference per game in almost two decades. As a matter of fact, teams averaged about the same amount of assists per game from at least 2004 until 2017. After this, teams increasingly committed to modeling their offense after the Warriors' system and the assist averages are up because of it. Again, you do not know what you're talking about.
I have a RUclips channel (in Portuguese) and I have analyzed a few games that I thought could be suspicious. For example, in David Robinson’s quadruple-double, he only got 6 assists and 6 blocks. Walt Frazier is credited with 19 assists in game 7 of 1970 NBA Finals, even though he got only 9. But, on the other hand, I watched Skiles’ 30 AST game. Not only he had 30, but in today’s criteria of what an assist is, he would have at least 33 or 34. Olajuwon’s quadruple-double is also for real. Edit: and for the “Duncan should have had a quadruple-double”, no he shouldn’t. Of the 8 blocks credited, 3 or 4 of them were kinda fake.
It's like when they give stars the benefit of the doubt for foul calls. It's not even a secret. People talk openly about "he's earned that call" or "if he was so-and-so he probably gets that call"
Well all of us Mavs fans know the Heat were given that finals win over us in 2006. We were up 2-1 and then the refs started giving the heat calls. Or they called weird fouls to mess with the momentum. It was angering.
What do you mean where’s the proof. We literally now have the opportunity to bet on our phones. It has gotten so blatant that players like Tatum, lebron/reeves and Luka will much rather get a technical for yelling at the refs than running back on defense .
This is one of those rare occasions where vid pertaining to a scandal seems feasible. Cheating like this seems entirely plausible. Side note about MJ getting DPoY as a guard however; that wasn’t a rarity in the 80s. In fact I believe the first two were won by a Bucks player who’s name eludes me at the moment
Related: "Unforgotten: Operation Flagrant Foul".... It's not just about the betting scandal but also the amount of refs/coaches/players just admitting refs hold grudges & call games that way.
I remember watching a game where Kobe was close to a triple-double, so I was paying attention to his assists. Kobe tipped the ball to a teammate who hit a jumper, but the scorekepper did not give Kobe an assist. I thought it was BS because it was a controlled tip to a wide open teammate, not a tip in a random direction that just ended up with a teammate. Kobe was looking at the teammate when he tipped it to him. Last season, I had a big bet on over 4.5 rebounds for a guard player. I don't remember who. The guard ended up with 4 rebounds but there was a very weird incident during the game where this guard got a defensive rebound, he was the only player near the ball, but at the same time the official whistled the ball dead to fix a clock issue. I was like, "he still got that rebound, right?" Nope, they didn't count that rebound
this also means, scottie pippens stats are also reduced to bring a narrative to the people. especially, in the past you cannot replay the whole game with just a press of a button and subsciption.
Once gambling was legalized it's obvious there would be problems. Multiple NFL players have been suspended the last few seasons for betting on games. The NBA already had Tim Donaghy. I find it hilarious that people are saying "There is no proof." Fake stats are not the problem, it's the outcome of games. Fans may be betting on a player's stats more but point spreads and over/unders are still bet on and winning and losing ultimately gets players paid more. Recent discussions about the next face of the league all centered around 1 thing: Whoever starts winning the most rings. The integrity of the game is compromised when winning and losing is not legit. And scorekeepers have been faking stats for years now. It happens today. Literally watched Lebron throw a pass to AD, AD took 4 dribbles as he backed down in the post, he faked left went right, then shot a fade away jumper. Lebron was given the assist. NBA rules state an assist leads directly to a basket. This AD/Lebron example is not an assist but they gave Lebron one regardless. And they've been doing it for a long time. Lebron's assist stats might be the fakest stat in all of sports.
Im a Kings fan and mysteriously sabonis will be short rebounds or assists occasionally. It's weird when local beat journalists who follows live games and when they post stats of the player and the official stats are incorrect by 1-2 assists or rebounds here and there. P.s. im not into the "cheating conspiracies" on most sports leagues... But we all know it's fueled by gambling. Ex: pro tennis scandal with Russian mob betting on players who throws a game or set etc... to alter betting lines. Baseball: sign stealing Football: play stealing Basketball: referee tampering . Etc
That’s not true they still do it. I noticed this happens. Not so long ago with Orlando magic games that are the ones I always watch. Who knows what they’re doing in the rest of the league! I have noticed when I see what seems not to be accurate most of the times under, and sometimes over. Depending on the players. What I noticed was with blocks as they tend to be easier to count as they tend to be less. I’m obviously not keeping track but sometimes is to obvious to the naked eye 😩😤😠
Unless you go watch the tape accusing someone they got a better statline at Home vs Away is a witch hunt, but yes, I've noticed this especially in assists in the 90s... the 2000s, the 2010. Stuff that's happening now is way more criminal.
The rebounding and assist stats 100% still get pumped up today in the way you've broken them down if you watch full games and count along. Not talking the odd outlier but 20%+
@mysportisyourpunishment73188 basketball reference and stat muse to double check (player game stat tracker). You can side by side the stats and see the fluctuations between the two. I'm not a die hard Kings fan so I can't speak to how they decide to run their offense night in and out- but I saw a thread on this on reddit and it peaked my curiosity and held weight after digging.
I suppose AI can now count the statistics of a game--feed a video file of an entire game to a program that reads it and then gives out the stats of each player. In this way, anyone can collect their own stats and thus check the official stats.
Just watch any game. Issues everywhere. It’s no different from holding in football - they can call in on most every play, or not. Traveling is the same, 5 times a game, no call, or well, maybe.
the stats werent fake per ce there are room for interpretation and those 50 50 calls all got given to stars to prob them up. to be honest, a lot of assists we see these days are dubious.
Yeah, there’s no way that sports betting being involved in every advertising corner of sports and sports media could be further corrupting said sport. The normalization of sports betting is an absolute plague.
Unrelated but do you remember the 0.4 seconds fisher sh9t vs the spurs? The spurs clockman started the clock later than he should have and completely killed the spurs season. 😂 and it was an accident! By their own employee! And to make it worse, he probably tried his best but it was just too hard tp be right on time. At least a new nba rule came out of it.
"If you put a 19 or 20 year old in charge of anything who's at fault there." The 19 or 20 year old. They are an adult. They are responsible for their actions. Passing the buck to whoever trusted them to actually have integrity and do their job is a copout for those with no integrity.

But it's working for his detriment because we all could see the bias and overexposure by the media and Adam Silver's cash cow in LBJ. They will surely gloss over that his stats have indeed been fabricated to prop his game above MJs and Kobe's, but we all notice that this is not the reality.
100% percent proof... Look at all the gambling ADS during the commercials and the commentators always talking about betting on betting on the apps....
This is dangerous reporting bro
They cook the books for Wemby for sure. Chet seems to get shorted on his blocks sometimes. He had one block the other night that was emphatic and he ended the game with 0 blocks

The NBA needs webby to be great.
thats why you have to look for the optimal schemes and there are players that making the team better without the reflect on the statsheet, factors like spacing tempo etc can not be measured but are really important

Every time Casey comes out with an investigative exposé like this, I gotta give him props with my real account. Great job being a REAL journalist among bloggers, Casey! 🏀🏆🕵🏻♂️
Agree fully. To my surprise(!?!), Casey has become my favorite NBA blogger, and I watch a lot of NBA bloggers.
It’s not a league anymore. It’s a mix of cassino and circus.
I’m curious to hear your thoughts on the “We done with the 90s” trend that’s been circulating thru NBA spaces the last few weeks. I think it’s hilarious to see but gravely dangerous to the convo to be had about the game.
I heard that trend for like 2 days ago, what's with it btw

the trend is legit, I grew up watching the entire 90s era. nostalgia plays a part, if anybody has the nba league pass please watch those games.

Lakers are a plus 400+ in freethrow differential nba is pushing the lakers to the finals this year mark my words
starts at 2:02
well the Challenge has been laid now people will wanna go through old footage and manually count!
So you think home team cheated but the away games are totally honest, I'm sceptical.
But now, a player can do iso dribbles, then take a couple more steps then score off a pass from a teammate and it would still count as an assist.
thats kinda how assisting works its not just the nba if your new to this game
There was proof last year with the ref who was a Boston fan with a burner account.. Also, there would be more refs named, but the NBA had a scapegoat.
Can the NBA review all the games with video and revise the stats for the league's integrity sake?
Best content you dropped in a long time

Well all of us Mavs fans know the Heat were given that finals win over us in 2006. We were up 2-1 and then the refs started giving the heat calls. Or they called weird fouls to mess with the momentum. It was angering.
I love your news bro
What do you mean where’s the proof. We literally now have the opportunity to bet on our phones. It has gotten so blatant that players like Tatum, lebron/reeves and Luka will much rather get a technical for yelling at the refs than running back on defense .
That’s not proof that refs are manipulating games because of betting, buddy.

Wow, this is the 1st time I've heard about this.
I remember there was a RUclipsr that used to laugh at CP3 fake assists when he was in LA
Tell me more....what youtuber and what year?
So it sounds like in these fantasy player picks we should be picking players on the home team for overs.
Well done sir! thank you for bringing it back to light.
NBA is no fun no more.
Baseball: sign stealing
Football: play stealing
Basketball: referee tampering
.
Etc
I wish people would focus on LeBron's steroid use! The guy is literally the Lance Armstrong of the NBA 🤷
I saw another RUclips creator with a similar video about how the NBA is inflating the stats of Victor Wembanyama
Who? Post it please
There is obviously a grey area where you could argue either way if something was a rebound or an assist.
Unless you go watch the tape accusing someone they got a better statline at Home vs Away is a witch hunt, but yes, I've noticed this especially in assists in the 90s... the 2000s, the 2010. Stuff that's happening now is way more criminal.
A lot of assists and rebounds in this modern nba are stat padded because of we are in a triple double era
The rebounding and assist stats 100% still get pumped up today in the way you've broken them down if you watch full games and count along. Not talking the odd outlier but 20%+
Assists are always recorded by the home team.
Look at Sabonis and Fox on the road vs at home... Sabonis gets more on the road Fox gets more at home
What website do you use for that?
@mysportisyourpunishment73188 basketball reference and stat muse to double check (player game stat tracker). You can side by side the stats and see the fluctuations between the two. I'm not a die hard Kings fan so I can't speak to how they decide to run their offense night in and out- but I saw a thread on this on reddit and it peaked my curiosity and held weight after digging.
Years ago I worked the score table at a couple Women's NJCAA DIV III tournament. I saw someone block 19 shots in a game.

I suppose AI can now count the statistics of a game--feed a video file of an entire game to a program that reads it and then gives out the stats of each player. In this way, anyone can collect their own stats and thus check the official stats.
The same scam happen late 50's in the NHL when the second assist on a goal was implemented to prevent Maurice Richard to win the scorer on the year.
Just watch any game. Issues everywhere. It’s no different from holding in football - they can call in on most every play, or not. Traveling is the same, 5 times a game, no call, or well, maybe.
That's why it's National Basketball Entertainment.
My dude, LeBron gets phantom assist's almost every game. Not to mention phantom foul calls in his favor, every single game.
the stats werent fake per ce there are room for interpretation and those 50 50 calls all got given to stars to prob them up.
to be honest, a lot of assists we see these days are dubious.
