Lovely video of Vietnam Megan. I have been to there twice in the last few years. It is a wonderful country to visit. Maybe the next time I will hire a motorcycle ?
Did you have any footage of Old Quarters Hanoi? In the summer, when I was 5 years old , I walked with my 4 years old brother to my grand mother house half of a mile away in Saigon. Only a third of the house was on dry land. The other 2/3 of the house was on stilts over the river bank. We skipped steps all the way there. At the door, we removed the shoes and noisily greeted our grand mother. She waved us in and brought down our favorite treat: a bottle of honey, a tea spoon, and two tooth picks. She opened the bottle and carefully filled the tea spoon with honey and handed it to us on a table. Sitting on two chairs facing each other, we took turns dipping our tooth picks and leisurely sampled the exquisite taste. After the honey was gone, she pulled my younger brother on her lap and seated me next to her. We eagerly look up to her face and she stared the stories of her time in Old Quarter Hanoi and the Dong Xuan market where she spent every morning shopping and prepared meals for the family. When I returned to Vietnam for the first time, I toured the Dong Xuan market and the residences in the fairy tales of childhood. The scenery seemed very familiar as I imagined years before. From the honey, we experienced the simple pleasure of life, companionship, joy of sharing, and grand mother love. There is a bottle of honey in my cupboard, and whenever I think of her I take the bottle down to fill my tea spoon. The taste of honey hasn't changed through all these years...
Aww what a beautiful memory! Thank you for sharing that. It's so special that you have not only the memory, but the taste of the honey, to remind you of your grandmother and her love for you. Some of those scenes in my video from Hanoi are from the old quarter. 😊

Hi Megan, I stumbled across your channel recently and have watched a few of your videos. They're all very well edited and the drone work in this one just added to the sense of epic that is Northern Vietnam.
One of the reasons I travel is perspective and watching this video is a good reminder of how soft I am. I'm one of the luckiest people to ever live, for no reason at all. If I don't do something to help the less fortunate, then my life is a failure.

Great video, and editing too. The imagery was easy to enjoy, and the use of a drone adds that whole other dimension to the POV. It is wonderful to see a local girl traveling abroad like this, keep it coming. For a bit of off-road training, check out PRS in Surrey. A single day and you'll have the foundations to build on for the next off pavement trip. Looking forward to the next video.
That was a great video! I’m interested in your thoughts on riding the little XR150 as compared to your other bikes. Much of Asia rides similar bikes to the one you rode, and they seem to get along just fine like you did in the video.
Yes, you’re right! In fact the XR150 is a big bike compared to what many people ride in that area. I witnessed just what a small scooter is capable of! I actually loved the XR 150 for this trip. It was fun to be on a small nimble bike and it gave me confidence to ride those gnarly dirt roads. I wouldn’t want to be doing highway touring with a bike like that, but for low-speed rural travel, it was spot on!
Yes, the 150 was absolutely perfect. A lot of people do the loop on scooters, which are perfectly adequate for the pavement but not so ideal for the rough terrain.
Great video Megan! It brings up my good memories from a ride around northern Vietnam two years ago... I was supposed to ride there again this March, but I had to cancel for obvious reasons.
@@MeganKaptein yep kinda disappointing, also because leading motorcycle tours is my job. We try to reschedule this in October, let's see if by that time travel can be resumed as a leisurely activity.

@@boomerhgt 25,000 people die of hunger every day in the world. That doesn't make any rich people care actually. But that wasn't the point. In the West, or in Europe, for that matter, or on North American territory, it is not uncommon to find that the inhabitants are less welcoming than those in poorer countries. If you have an explanation for this, please explain it here.

Another top quality video Megan! - Aside from excellent video quality , I love how you always provide us viewers with great info. about the various areas & cultures you are visiting (so informative for those of us who have never visited these areas, or may never have the opportunity to) keep up the good work!
Wow, really spectacular landscape and scenery there. That horrible smog was a surprise to me, though. I almost got an all expenses paid trip to Vietnam back in 1972, but my Draft Number was just a bit too high to get “Selected”. My Korean wife and I go to South Korea every year, but we missed it this year due to COVID-19. I can recommend South Korea very highly. It is basically a dual language country, Korean/English, so it’s easy to navigate your way around. In my many years visiting Korea, I have never seen smog nearly as bad as what you showed here, even in Seoul. Outside of Seoul, I have never seen any smog. Thanks for another super interesting travelogue. I really enjoyed it. Happy Trails
Allen, thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment. My mother actually spent a few years of her childhood in South Korea, so it's been on my list for a number of years. Hopefully after the pandemic, I'll get the chance to visit. And perhaps I'll see you and your wife there. 😊
Thanks for the memories! I travelled through Vietnam via motorcycle 12 years ago and recommended it to all my friends. But most of them just said I‘m totally nuts. Now look at these pictures, landscapes, ... and tell me it is not beautiful! Thank you for sharing this beautiful video. You are awesome!

I wish I had your spirit for travel. My motorcycle adventures have been eastern Canada... live in Nova Scotia. Don't get me wrong, there are so many things to see, but wow... I'm impressed.
Just stumbled onto your channel somehow. Vietnam was the first place I ever rode a geared motorcycle - Ho Chi Minh City to be precise. A month before that I'd never ridden any two wheeled vehicle with an engine. Riding from Ham Tien on the coast up to Da Lat in the mountains and back down to Quy Nhon made me obsessed with riding motorcycles. That was three and a half years ago, now I have a full UK bike licence and an MT-07 (hopefully to be exchanged for an MT-09 or Street Triple once lockdown is over).
Wow you are a brave soul to start riding in Vietnam! That must have been an amazing trip and I'm glad you came out unscathed and with a passion to continue riding. The MT seems like an excellent bike!
Megan Kaptein Equal parts brave and ignorant, perhaps. After several inter-city journeys in Cambodia with lunatic bus drivers, I wanted some control over my mode of transport.
@@assortedpov Absolutely understand. My bus ride up to Ha Giang was a harrowing one, and the bus I took from Hanoi to Cat Ba was one of the most overcrowded, insane travel experiences of my life. I literally had some guy's foot in my face for half the journey... it's a shame that the bike rentals are so expensive relative to the cost of bus. If I was going for longer, I would just buy a motorcycle next time!
Thank you for your encouragement! I hope you're able to make your dream trip happen some day. In the mean time, you'll have plenty of opportunities to research. :)
i was born in Ha Giang, and i love the way you explore and introduce my hometown. Wish you have many safe and happy trips

Thanks for watching and the tip on PRS. That’s where I took lessons in 2014. :) Excellent instructors!
Spectacular and beautiful trip, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
As my love for riding grows I realize how epic and diffacult is. Some next level riding.I hope to see you one day on the road.
Thanks Jeremy. Northern Vietnam is in a league of its own, especially if you get off-road. All the best and safe riding. ✌️
I think I found my second fav channel after Itchy Boots.
Me too
Thanks for posting this video! Wow! I know this a great adventure! Motorcycling in Vietnam. With beautiful landscapes to explore
Thank you for watching, Allen!
As they said in the 60s, “What a trip!” The 150 looked like the perfect motorcycle for those roads.
Yes, the 150 was absolutely perfect. A lot of people do the loop on scooters, which are perfectly adequate for the pavement but not so ideal for the rough terrain.
Wow' You have taken your adventures and riding to a new level. stay safe and beautiful.
Thanks Tom!
Well there was a pleasant surprise ! I thought you were were just rambling around Canada. Bring it on :)
Great video Megan! It brings up my good memories from a ride around northern Vietnam two years ago... I was supposed to ride there again this March, but I had to cancel for obvious reasons.
Thanks for watching! Sorry you had to cancel the trip. That must have been disappointing. Hopefully you get the chance to rebook in the future.
@@MeganKaptein yep kinda disappointing, also because leading motorcycle tours is my job. We try to reschedule this in October, let's see if by that time travel can be resumed as a leisurely activity.
@@roadsplash629 Oh darn! But what a dream job during non COVID times!
@@MeganKaptein yes I can't complain :D but in this long period no tours anywhere...
Brilliant video admire you so much at a point in live I could do this but not brave or confident enough... go girl
i say do it bro, life is too short
Come here from random YT rec but it was definitely worth it. Thank you so much for all the efforts, you put a smile on my face and also leave me with teary eyes. Thank you for showing me another beautiful part of my country, somewhere I do not know if I ever have the courage to go by myself. Thank you and always welcome to Việt Nam
I loved reading your comment! Thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts on my video. I'm so glad to know you enjoyed it and it inspired you to explore more of your beautiful country.
The poor people are often the most smiling as opposed to the richest people whose faces bear the stigma of the worries that their wealth brings.

You think being dirt poor doesn't come with worse worries like how to feed yourself you fool
Now that looks like an awesome adventure thanks for sharing love the content cheers from Australia
Thank you, David!
So lovely. Greeting from a Vietnamese American. I would like to be friend and keep in touch with you. Maybe we could travel together sometimes.
Thanks for watching! Have you been to Vancouver yet? You are welcome here once the borders open up.
@@MeganKaptein Not yet, but would love to travel to Canada someday. I want to keep connection with u. Insta, Facebook, whatsapp, hangouts,....?

Thanks for sharing an amazing trip in an amazing place. Great bravery riding on those roads. I hope you didn't have take away too many bumps and bruises as souvenirs.
Thanks for watching! I had a few lovely bruises on my legs. Luckily bruises heal, but the memories last forever. :)
It looks so beautiful and I love your sweetness!🌹
Another top quality video Megan! - Aside from excellent video quality , I love how you always provide us viewers with great info. about the various areas & cultures you are visiting (so informative for those of us who have never visited these areas, or may never have the opportunity to) keep up the good work!
Thanks for watching and for your feedback, Nick. I love learning about history and geography when I travel, so I'm happy to share it when I am able.
Great documentary and photos ! What roads/mountains. a 150 dirt bike can't be that comfy ?
@@ed.t.hansen6499 Thank you. A 150 dirt bike would be totally fine.
Beautiful country and your voice goes so well with your videos,I love to hear you speak,Be well and safe.
Thanks Randy!
Wow, beatifull view. Someday.
Thanks alot for video about my country Megan. Have a nice trip and safe riding .Goodluck girl and take care yourself
My pleasure, Quảng. I appreciate you watching!
Megan Kaptein You welcome.Waiting for new videos in your channels and always wish you healthy
I am going to visit the Vietnam... you so good
😊
Cung đường đẹp và thiên nhiên rất phù hợp với phượt và trải nghiệm
Thanks for sharing Megan. Great cinematography.
Thanks so much for watching, Tod.
Cháu ơi phiêu lưu quá. Cảnh đẹp nhưng thấy nguy hiểm quá!
Love from Canada. Beautiful country.
Hello fellow Canadian, thanks for watching!
Wow very cool you got to travel back then and blaze the trail for people like myself. Hopefully my video brought back a lot of great memories for you and inspired you to continue the adventure!
Beautiful...thanks for sharing...stay safe !!!!
Thanks Andrew!
Wow that was a surprise - great choice for a ride video location! I'm sure it was a fantastic experience. Really well done - love the aerial shots (with a drone I guess)!
Thanks Robert! Yes, the aerial shots are by drone. :)

Thank you! 😃
I wish I had your spirit for travel. My motorcycle adventures have been eastern Canada... live in Nova Scotia. Don't get me wrong, there are so many things to see, but wow... I'm impressed.
I think anyone who rides has a spirit of adventure. 😊 Safe travels! ✌️
Wow loved it. Thank you for sharing. I’ve got to do this sometime.
Enjoying a free spirit,
Just stumbled onto your channel somehow.
Phong cảnh rất đẹp và hùng vĩ cũng phải nói thật tôi là người việt nam như trưa một lần đến nơi đó , cảm ơn bạn đã chia sẻ video này
Did you get to tour the south Vietnam roads? I am keeeeeen as ever to go.
Megan, you did an incredible job documenting your adventure. I hope to do something epic like this someday. Thank you for sharing your trip with us.
Thank you for your encouragement! I hope you're able to make your dream trip happen some day. In the mean time, you'll have plenty of opportunities to research. :)
