  • Khasi Women Wisdom who number about 1 million in India's north-eastern state of Meghalaya, carry on the matrilineal tradition. The youngest daughter inherits, children take their mother's surname, and once married, men live in their mother-in-law's home. These stories from Khasi women give insight and weave the tapestry of this unique social framework and matrilineal society that has influenced culture and arts and that in turn contributes to the larger universal discussion of gender equality.

It is very sad that we seem to forget that if there had been no men who loved their women so much there would not be in existence the Matrilineal Khasi Society. It was the Khasi male who in the warrior phase decided to leave his wife & the kids with her mother while he goes to war so that they will be well taken care of than with his family. This later led to the children taking the mother's clan name for protection & security in case the father dies as lives in those days was uncertain (too many wars etc). This later became the custom even when the warrior phase of life ended. It must be remembered that the 7trep land(KhasiJaintia) became a Reality because of the Sacrifices/Bravery of our Warriors (males) & they generously gave to their mother, sisters/ nieces for they always see us(females) as physically the weaker sex & that it was their duty to provide& protect the women (females). This is the most noble& beautiful characteristics feature of the Khasi male especially in the past

They have the fruits that are medicinal during these seasons, there are plenty of all these in our forests, in our land, in our consecrated forests. The captions are wrong. Here's what the Khasi Mei iied says at 3:25 "The Khasi people, they don't have libraries in their temporary structures like the house..., Khasi people have library in nature. Nature is all the library where there are printed in the leaves, in the flowers, they go on living from one generation to another..In the flowers, in the herbs, in the plants, in the bamboos that grow and everything..so, it is a library in nature. For Khasi people, that library will never get effaced from the surface of the earth, so, you have to think about this wisdom. Am I not correct?"

But with the emerging of the telecommunication systems like television and internet... The influence of the Western Culture today, also known as the *Culture* *of* *Death,* propagated through these systems, have started to manifest itself in all the four corners of the earth and gradually transforming the life and the culture of those that it comes in contact with including ours by spreading wrong ideas and confusion.
Now we say we are proud of our culture because of the many things that we have in our culture, and especially that it is base upon love and equality, which usually stand out from others, but with the Culture Of Death in our midst, our culture is gradually eroding and so is our identity. Matrilineal tradition in our culture that we are proud of will one day become a myth.

14:50 "They believe that your grandma has passed away about ten generations and she is over there, you cannot see her, but when you pass away from here in time of death you will be with her in the parlour house of God. So, as your soul will live with her, as you are living in this world, you have your own parental house to go in times of need. So, whether you are a boy or a girl, this ancestral family will have to take care of you for security. So that is our religion, am i not correct? THAT is the matrilineal system.
