This is the first part of our Alaska series! Join us as we depart Vancouver for the world famous Inside Passage of Alaska. In this episode we learn about local first nations, timber and gold mining history of the region. We spot loads of wildlife including Humpbacks on their annual migration and get up close to giant tidewater glaciers cruising with the premier cruise company in the region!
Chapters:
Introduction 0:00
Cruising the Inside Passage 1:49
Departing from Vancouver, Canada we head up inside the inside passage, during our at sea days we show off the features and luxury of Holland America's MS Noordam and take in the stunning surroundings of the region.
Ketchikan 5:31
Officially arriving into Alaska we check out the picturesque town of Ketchikan. Our first experience is the Saxman Village which is home to 25 Totem Poles, there we learn about the First Nations history in the region before returning to town to watch the hilarious Great Alaskan Lumberjack Show.
Juneau 14:24
Docking into Alaska's capital we head out to view some of the local wildlife on a Humpback Whale watching tour. We view many whales on their annual migration along with seals and bald eagles before stopping at the Mendenhall Glacier where we view Sockeye Salmon swimming upstream to spawn. We return back to Juneau and visit the famous Red Dog Saloon, an icon from the Gold mining era.
Skagway 22:18
At the centre of the Gold Rush was Skagway, this was the port access for gold miners heading up to the Yukon gold fields. Here we explore this old gold mining settlement, undertake a small hike to Smugglers Cove and board the iconic White Pass Scenic Railway.
Glacier Bay 29:02
The jewel of every Alaskan Cruise is Glacier Bay. Not only where the astounding Glaciers superb but for us the wildlife was most impresive. Here we saw Mountain Goats high above, Humpback Whales, Seals and loads of adorable Sea Otters cuddling up on broke pieces of glacial ice.
College Fjord 37:48
We believe the best was saved for last! This stop isn't always available on Alaskan itineraries and is subject to good weather. We were lucky enough to enter into the College Fjord which in our opinion had the most impressive tidewater glaciers of all. 5 within close proximity we get up close to the largest of these glaciers, the Harvard Glacier. A perfect way to end our week long voyage along the famous Inside Passage in Alaska.
Join us in this series as we journey inland and further explore North America's Northermost, Largest and most remote state. We get up close to plenty more astounding Glaciers, loads of wildlife and land on North America's highest mountain!
This was very interesting and educational!!!! Will be there in 18 days!!
Thank you! Hope you have an amazing time!
I am not a 'crusier' and taking this trip in July. I watched a bunch of these videos, but they were all by 'crusiers' going to Alaska. This one was the best by far with adventurers cruising to Alaska. I am going for the views, the wildlife and the adventure.
That’s exactly what we are, cruising seemed like the best way to explore this part of Alaska and it truly was. You will have a fantastic adventure, hopefully more of the activity options will be available this season, the cycling from white pass sounded amazing!
Got me pumped for my 5/28/23 cruise. Appreciate the reality that it IS going to rain!
Regardless you’re going to have an epic adventure. Alaska is amazing!!
Beautiful video… gorgeous sights and so well composed!
Thank you very much, next video is on its way! Denali! 🏔️
Very well done in all respects. Likely the best put together Alaska cruise trip video ever and I have viewed hundreds as well as enjoyed two cruises to Alaska.
Thank you very much, a lot of work went into it! The next episode is almost here with the land add on for Denali. It’s taken a while because we are travelling at the moment 😊
Agree 👍
great video beautiful scenery and love your music selections as well.
Thank you, a lot of thought and time went into it. Glad people are enjoying it 😊
Well done friends! I learned so much and appreciate the excellent quality and informative voiceover work you both did. I cant wait for my Alaskan Glacier cruise coming in June 2023
Thank you very much, you are going to have an excellent time! If you’re interested in the land portion of our Alaska trip we just posted our video to Denali. Both parts of Alaska were absolutely amazing!
I watch a number of travel vlogs and have started planning my Alaska bucket list cruise-this is the best I have seen! Well done.
Thank you! It’s a wonderful cruise, you’ll have an amazing time!
Agree with you Trish 🎉
This is about as artistically done as any I've seen. Thanks for the information and especially the music.
You’re welcome, I’m glad to hear that! Music is a big part of putting these together, thanks for noticing!
Thanks so much for all your information, very helpful as we sail in May to Alaska
You’re welcome, hope you have an amazing time!
Very nicely done video! Love the music as well!
Thank you, make sure to check out the follow up if you’re interested in the land package with Denali, it’s a worthwhile adventure!
Great video you two! I live in Juneau about two miles from the Mendenhall Glacier. I’ve watched a lot of these cruise vlogs and yours is one of the best! Happy Travels!
Thank you so much! Means a lot to hear this, especially from a local.. we hope to return to your beautiful state someday!
Enjoyed the videos guys. Feel like taking a tour soon ❤
Yeah it is amazing, we highly recommend!
Great video! Just returned from an alaskan cruise last Saturday, great seeing many of the things we just experienced in person narrated so perfectly!
I wanted to say we did the White Pass Railway, had clear sunny weather and even had a conductor in our train car to answer questions. It was one of the highlights. I’m sorry it was not that for you. We had terrible rain in Ketchikan and you had a fabulous day. Crazy how the weather is all over the place.
Thank you for making this video!
You’re welcome, we are very glad you not only enjoyed the video but also such an amazing cruise. We suspected we just had bad luck with the White Pass trip, I’m sure it would’ve been amazing under all the right conditions! Be sure to check out our Denali follow up video after this one if you get the chance.. all the best!
@@GlobalTravelStories these make me want to go back!
Loved this. +1. nice blend of scenery and commentary. Also, I think your tips and insights are on point - kind of videos I would make if I made them. Well done!
Thank you! Just finishing up the next episode now that includes the land portion of Alaska into the Denali Wilderness. Hope you enjoy it when it lands hopefully within the week!
Hi Happy Easter 🐇🐰👍🇦🇺🦘 Love you guys Travel Videos so very much.... Very Profesional🏄 Nareeda must be very proud of You both
Thank you, and happy Easter 🐣 to you too!
Enjoyed your video, reminded me of when we took the same cruise back in 09. I had forgotten about some of things you videoed.
Yeah the videos are a great refresher, it’s one of the main reasons I started doing them!
This video is well done. Lots of cool facts such as Wyatt Earp and the humpback whales calving.
It's hilarious that many comments are about the 6 pack of beer. 🤣
Thank you! Yeah I was surprised too that’s what most people were interested in.. I’ll have to include more “inside tips” in the future 😆
You stopped in to Bawden Street Brewery while you were in Ketchikan! That was my go to place when I lived in Ketchikan. It seems like it was a little windy the day you were there. If your crab feast trip was the one where you leave Clover Pass resort and take a boat trip to the feast, it may have been cancelled due to choppy seas in Clover Pass.
I think you are correct, they may have mentioned strong winds now that I think about it!
Great video. It's a shame you couldn't do that trip. It really is a fun time. It was one of the outings I recommended to friends when they visited.
Thank you for sharing. Wife and I are sailing on HAL Noordam in 17 days.
Beginning of season.. You’ll have an amazing time! Enjoy!
Glacier is gorgeous 🎉
It’s an amazing place!
Very well done.
Thank you 😊
Greatly enjoyed your video! Best I’ve watched. We are going on this same route on a cruise tour in the Princess Grand the last of May. I want to search your videos for the land portion. Thank you !
Glad you enjoyed our video, currently creating the land portion video so it should be put in the next couple of weeks. They take a little while to make and we are currently traveling in South America. Check in again soon as it’ll be a pretty awesome episode! 🏔️ You’ll have the best time on your cruise!
Going on a cruise on the Noordam May 28 through June 7. It was nice to see the ship and balcony rooms.
It’s an amazing cruise, highly recommend the balcony. You’ll have a great time!
@@GlobalTravelStories Hi Happy Easter 🐇🐰👍🇦🇺🦘 Love you guys Travel Videos so very much.... Very Profesional🏄 Nareeda must be very proud of You both
So are we
We're going on this ship in September so thank you for showing 😊
Wow, I'm surprised they allowed you to bring beer on board.
I love the Alaskavedo
Thank you ☺️
Subscribed. Excellent video and very informative. We'll be on an inside passage cruise in September, so this really helped us choose some of our shore excursions. Curious what video/photography equipment was used to shoot this?
Thank you! This was last summer, I had an iPhone XS at the time (I now use 14 pro) a GoPro 10 and a Lumix FZ300. You’re gonna have an amazing time on the cruise!
Subscribed!
Thank you 😊
Thank You. We're going on our first tour/cruise in May. Looking for every tidbit of info.
You’re welcome, I’m sure you’ll have an amazing time!
Very, very well done. We are doing this next month, middle of June. When did you do this trip?
Thank you, I believe it was August last year. I think I put the date at the start after the intro. You’re going to have a fantastic time! Remember to check out the following video if you are curious about Holland America’s Denali land package too!
I didn't think you could bring alcohol on board,do you know how much is allowed
From memory I think a 6 pack is allowed. I think I mentioned it in the video. I’m not sure exactly though.
Beautiful.............. Can someone tell me what month did this cruise take place?
Thank you 😊, the date is shown near the start of all our videos, after the intro.. I believe it is toward the end of July last year..
I saw you brought the Alaskan Beer in your cabin from Juneau. does HAL allow it to bring on board? they did not hold it till end of the cruise? I'm going next week same port with HAL Niew Amsterdam. Great vlog guys.
Thank you, I think I may have mentioned in the video but can’t remember. They were allowing up to 6 beers at each port to take on board, which was perfect so I could sample the local beers at each place. Highly recommended! Have a great trip!
Hi! Great video. Could you tell me when you travellled.
Hi, the date is at the beginning of the video after the intro. I believe it was the beginning of August last year. Glad you enjoyed the video! 😃
Great video, Was the sailing smooth the whole time ?
Thank you! Yeah the cool thing about the inside passage is being protected from the rough ocean..
You mention bringing local beer onto ship. How did that work?
They give you an allowance, on this cruise I believe the equivalent of a 6 pack was absolutely fine. I also liked the idea of trying the local beers as opposed to the big National and international brands sold on board.
@Global Travel Stories that's what we're hoping to do too, thanks. It's not clear on the HAL website
Yeah I just asked when I departed at port and they said a 6 pack is fine 👍
They let you bring beer on board? SWEET! Is beer the only alcohol? Disney used to let you and I never heard of any other cruise lines that do!
Yeah we took a celebrity cruise to Antarctica recently and they also allowed us to bring on beer. I think wine is also allowed, not sure about spirits and hard liquor though. Definitely saves some money and allows you to try the local stuff at each port!
When did you begin the cruise? Looks chilly.
Late July/early August, it was only cold in glacier bay and college fjord. Most of the time the temperature was reasonable
Are the waters much smoother during an inland cruise? I’m asking because I have horrible motion sickness.
Yeah the inside passage is pretty smooth, can only speak from our experience but you can see on the video how calm the waters are. I get motion sickness also and I was fine the whole time
Don't let them fool you in Juneau Alaska. You can actually go all the way to the glacier. There is a well known path. You just need to know where to start hiking.
If we weren’t on a set tour I think we would’ve found it.. must be a great hike! 🥾
At Mendenhall glacier, there are actually 2 parks. Tourists are usually directed to the visitor center. But if you go across the lake to the other park Where they start a lot of the Rafting tours There will be a trail go about a mile and then there will be a Picnic area on the right. Then immediately take a left, and there will be a sign warning you about the dangers of going to the Glacier. That is where the trail begins. Just be careful and don't do anything above your skill level.
I’ll remember that if we ever get the opportunity to return!
What Camera do you use? I am doing the same cruise in June 2023.
Combination of Lumix FZ300, GoPro 10 and iPhone XS (now upgraded to 14Pro)
You’ll have an amazing time I’m sure!!
What was the month and temperature there? Thanks
Hi, I believe it was late July/August. The date is on all our videos after the intro, we mention the temperature a few times throughout the video because it changes as we head north..
Seeing a bear is my Alaska goal
We saw plenty on the next episode, check it out!
Going in June , looking forward to the sites but dreading the winter weather . Every time I see an Alaska cruise the people are dressed like they are on aa trek to the North Pole and going to have to eat their sled dogs .
Haha it’s really not that bad, pack warm clothes and you will be comfortable. We had surprisingly good weather for most of it. The first few days wearing shorts and T-shirt shirts as seen in the video.
How were you able to sneak the beer back to the ship?
They just allowed me to. You’re allowed a certain amount. I’m pretty sure about a 6 packs worth
@@GlobalTravelStories Thank you, I didn't know that! My wife works for HAL security and my understanding is that outside liquor is not allowed excluding a bottle of wine per person w/ a corkage fee. I'm all for it!
@@jayliu15 Not sure what the official allowances are but when I asked security reembarking the ship they allowed it every time. I’ve done it on another cruise since with permission.
What month did you go?
August last year 😊
music is WAY too loud--- very hard to hear you talking. Please reduce music level and I might be able to watch your show. Thanks
It’s only loud on the intro, the rest of the episode has automatic ducking which reduces the volume of the music 20db when talking
@@GlobalTravelStories. thanks - Watched anyway and listened and was enjoyable to see.
Why are y’all wearing masks? Please tell me it’s by choice not required…
This was last summer, so it was the first season after COVID, not sure what the restrictions are now. We recently took a cruise to Antarctica and it wasn’t required, just sanitising before entering the dining rooms.
I noticed everyone still wearing masks. Is this manditory?
This is last year so I assume not. We did an Antarctica cruise this year and they didn’t require masks
Just what Alaska needs is MORE exploitation !!! Paradise lost to advertising !!!
There’s almost 8 billion people in the world. People are going to travel..
