    Of all the maker RUclipsrs I watch, I think you have the most methodical and, dare I say, quality approach to creating stuff. Both your design and execution are top tier, and I applaud you for your patience and knowledge every time you upload a video. Keep at it, sir, you're filling a niche in a wonderful way.

  • @ambroscustom

    You took your own builds to whole new level and I think that is the main reason I kept visiting your channel. In my opinion you are also in the list of badass markers of RUclips.

    Your design is beautifully practical, but outside the box as well. I’ve been building my 2x72 for a bit now, and I’m on the home stretch. I hope you don’t mind that I am planning on incorporating your adjustable table design into my own. I have seen many ways to do it, but none as good as yours. You should be proud of the way your brain solves problems. Very clever sir!

    One thing I notice ever since I watch your videos, the material you use is all "overkill" like they will last generations upon generations because of the way you built this belt sander! It looks good and very tough! Fantastic job!

    The things you call "Had to be done" is so incredebly satisfying to watch! Please don't ever stop filming them. Doesn't matter how small of an adjustments you think it is, for me (and I belive there is a few more sharing the opinion) this is the reason I use RUclips. Small projects, informative videos, very nice results. And for the record, I think this is a large improvement.

      I merely wish to ask if you would make me one of your belt Sanders with a 36"x 6 in table with an additional roller 1" in diameter so that I can hollow grind some of my knifes? After seeing the great work you do I imagine you can come up with a way for the roller to push the belt out about 1/4" midway up the vertical part of the Sander. I can supply a motor, please give me price for this work. I live in Fresno CA. Thanks Steve

    This is the first video of yours I have seen and I already subscribed! I love how you clearly explained the reason for pretty much everything you are doing. Some "instructional" videos kind of gloss over important steps as if they expect you to know, but a lot of us are starting out with minimal knowledge of how to make these things so your clear instructions are great!

    If you expect to make more sliding tubes, make a shrinking mandrel to build them around. It would work like a collet but instead of expanding in lots of directions, it would just expand in two. After welding, loosen a bolt on one end and give it a tap. Might need a surface grinder to do this properly. Build it for your smallest sliding tube. Add shims for larger sizes.

    The "trial and error" methodology it's still the gold standard of industrial progress. Ideas can exist on paper but ultimately the only thing that a finished product can represent is usefulness. Which is the culmination of idea, design and execution.

    Estimado Jeremy: Lo primero que voy a decirte es que, tu trabajo es enorme, fascinante, masivo, sólido! Lo segundo es: a caso vas a desvastar el titanic o algo así? No te conozco, pero te veo trabajar y pienso que eres un chico listo e industrioso, entonces me desconcierto! Cuantas horas, cuantos kilos de hierro, cuanto gas, cuanto alambre!! Y todo para hacer una simple y bonita lijadora, y se me cae el alma a pedazos. Dicho con todo mis respetos.

    Fine work I am in the process of building the grinder from your plans. I do not have a metal lathe. The radius pin will be difficult. Will drilling a hole, tapping it, and using a bolt with the head cut off work.

    Have you considered getting some graphite backer for your platen? It reduces heat so that your metal platen won't warp, as well as making your belt last longer. Lots of places sell it.

    • @Jer_Schmidt
      @Jer_Schmidt  6 лет назад

      I bought a glass platen, so I'm hoping that will have the same advantages. Just haven't got around to adapting it to this machine.

    i built a 2 x 72 belt grinder entirely from your design, it's the best one out there. Only thing is i used the steel from some tractor implements i had laying around, so the flat bar is 1/2" and the main frame is rather fat, 1" anyway i did not have dimensions so i guessed what they were from logic... ! i had a few issues redos and fails, but the finished product is quite satisfying...! i am going to make another one with the right material and buy a set of your plans, now that i know what to do and what to expect.. it is a superior design Jeremy, very very quite, smooth, no vibrations i have a 3 horse 3800 ripums VFD L510 Teco/Westinghouse. took me a minute to figure out how to program the parameters. thank you and i will be getting a set of plans pretty soon, i got to get my Harley Back on the road first.... hahha

    Your work is so exceptional that the only thing it is missing is a little automotive BONDO to clean up welds that don't as planned. A guy did a video of brazing some cast iron mounts and did the BONDO filling before paint and you couldn't see where he had worked on it. Pretty slick techinque. I don't do it because I couldn't afford as much as I would need to make my work look acceptable !!

    An idea - Instead of the complex box built around the main square bar. Cut the bar at an angle (with chamfers) and weld back together, to get the downward 'bend'. Then create the box that's the slide for the table's post onto that bar. Or onto a plate welded onto that bar.

    Excellent video Jeremy, what stood out for me was the great editing and presentation. From the looks of it your welds turned out good. However if you remove the mill scale of all the to be welded surfaces before welding you will get a more stable arc and you can lower your amperage (if preferred). You are using solid wire (no flux core) and shielding gas right?

    • @Jer_Schmidt
      @Jer_Schmidt  6 лет назад +1

      Yeah I'm using solid wire and 75/25 gas. Thanks for the tip!

    • @tyleranderson8751

      I did this too before making my tubes. There is so much friction the mill scale adds and I noticed it expands slightly when welding.

    Yet another great video of a slick idea. If I could just contribute one idea to you project it would be to go over your welds with Bondo and sand them down for a really professional looking job. My homebrew grinder won't hold a candle to yours but it is quite handy.....want to trade? LOL
