- Tesla Model 3 Road Trip to North Norfolk
In this road trip we're heading from Manchester to Brancaster in North Norfolk to stay at the White Horse, then onto Holkham Hall and Norwich for the Norwich Food festival.
How will the Tesla Model 3 handle this summer journey, are the chargers becoming too full?

Sorry to hear its happening to you too Chris
Mark creates the best videos regarding road trips with an EV, specifically with a Model 3, in England! I say this, as most videos on RUclips are mostly and understandably from America. Another stellar road trip upload! ⚡
Thanks 🙏🏼 glad you’re enjoying them! Trying to film another 2 this weekend!
@@MBrown 👍🏽
Going for a test-drive tomorrow - first EV drive and it's a Tesla model 3. Cannot wait! really cool to see how effortless it is to own a Tesla. My folks also live in Norfolk, so good to know about the Supercharger in Kings Lynn.
Have fun! You’re gonna love it! (Well hopefully anyway!)
Went for a Model Y in the end. Loving it so far! Embracing a good change in life!@@MBrown
Mark for a moment I thought I had put on the BBC "Travel Show". A nice road trip, you and your Mrs must have bladders of steel with all the coffee you drink.🤣🤣🤣
😂 we do! We should prob do a coffee road trip reviewing the best coffee spots in the UK
Glad it’s not just me having the map problem, it only seems to have happened since the last update🤔
Yeah seems like it’s affecting a lot of people! (Thought it was just me too!)
Same issue for me in my MY.
I was in the same area at about the same time as you were, plus I also stopped off at the kings Lynn supercharger too. Small world.
I’ve also had the same issue with the maps that you mentioned.
Oh cool no way! We might have passed each other
Definitely going to stay at the White Horse soon - looks great and always want to support the Tesla destination chargers locations!
Great, you'll love it!
We just returned from that area, very lovely. I also saw very few chargers on the map - so I had to do a few Kings Lynn trips to top up - which is not ideal. We also have had many map issues, and the same experience you faced, where the maps are essentially blank - even for local journies. Very poor. One would hope Tesla would take a far more proactive and customer-centric response.
Sounds great, glad you had a good time! Yes I use the Kings Lynn one too a lot!
Hi Mark, map loading issue is an EE problem with their towers. In short it give the vehicle a false reading of signal strength. It’s to do with the fast moving vehicle and cell tower triangulation. EE is aware of this, however they have to update their tower firmware individually and not via OTA 🤦🏼♂️
Fingers crossed they’ll sort this soon
I have had the same issue with the map imagery disappearing randomly for the last few months. After initial contact with Tesla, they recommend a reboot. Several reboots later, along with software updates, the issue remains. Glad I am not the only one with this problem 😉
Damn! Same for me!
@@MBrown Hey Mark. I have managed to provide Tesla with some data on location and times when this issue has happened. Based on this they have confirmed that this is down to network issues with EE. They are looking to switch me over to another provider whilst EE address the issues. This was all handled remotely via the service function of the app 👍
Hi Mark. Great video it looks like you had a wonderful time. I must say that I do like North Norfolk and travel there around twice a year normally staying in Cromer and using that as a base. All the best for the future Jim
Oh great, yeah Cromer is great too!
Same experience with the map disappearing, on one occasion for two days, then suddenly reappearing. However during that time the navigation verbal instructions still worked, but only showing the red arrow!
Yeah I found the same, I could still work out where to turn, but just no imaging
Great video, thanks for sharing. I’m also having map issue in my MY recently. Sometimes takes several minutes to find my location after I’ve set off.
Thanks for sharing, it does seem to be affecting a few people
Great trip content, looking forward to the next one. 🎉
More to come!
Another great film from Mark. My M3LR also suffers sat nav grey screen. The restaurants mentioned are awesome and the Holcombe walk is one of the best. i love just south of Norwich and often visit the sites mentioned .😀
Cool, thanks! Yes its a great place!
looks like a great trip & weekend. beautiful scenery thanks for taking me along
Glad you enjoyed it Kenny! 👍
Another great video - thank you for making it and sharing. Great camera work and editing.
Thank you very much! Really appreciate it
I had this issue and reported it to Tesla - They said it's a UK issue that appears to be caused by a communication issue between Google and the Tesla network. They don't know how or when it will be fixed but they'll provide a firmware update when available.
Seems strange, I don’t understand why the car doesn’t do an offline mode for when there are no maps, it would be like 400MB
Great video again Mark. Norfolk and Norwich both look lovely. I’m in Perth Western Australia now, originally from Wigan, but I do really miss the U.K. when I watch your videos! A lot of stunning places which we take for granted when living there.
I was all set to order a Model 3 when the highland version comes out, but I’ve since been considering a Model Y as we have 2 kids. They’re 7 & 10 now though so don’t need much room, I like the M3’s sporty style. Would you change to the MY in future or do you still prefer the M3?
You do a great job with the videos btw, always enjoy watching them 👍🏻
Stuart.
Thanks Stuart, wow I bet you have some great places for driving where you are! You’re right I think we have some great places on our door step! 👍
@@MBrown Cheers Mark. We’re making our first trip back to Wigan next April after 6 years here.
What are your thoughts on the MY? Would you consider changing in the future or do you still prefer the M3?
Amazing video/trip, edited just right, enjoyed watching! Keep these videos coming!😉
Thanks so much!
Another great travel video Mark. Looking at the delicious food definitely makes me think a trip to Norfolk is needed.
One thing I've changed as I've settled into our Model Y ownership is that I now don't charge to 100% because you don't get regen. I pretty much know that at that level of charge I'm going to need a stop before the car needs to recharge. So I may as well optimise efficiency by having regen rather than grabbing the 15 extra miles of range.
Thanks Stephen, yes definitely get a trip booked to Norfolk, the food there is great! Loads of nice places in Norwich to eat too!
Great video as always Mark, I have the mapping issue too from time to time certainly since the last update. The other one which is annoying is that after that update it thinks my car is about 300 yards away from where it is when I start in a morning???? I don't know if it's because the car is garaged at night but it's only done it recently, doesn't do it all the time but certainly see it do that more often than not at the minute. When I move the car though (more than just on the driveway) it sorts itself out
Thanks Dave, I'm hoping they can fix this soon
Nice video! I enjoy your videos every time! Keep up the good work!
Thanks a lot Robin! Glad you’re enjoying them
another great vid Mark - North Norfolk is one of my and my families "goto" (still unspoilt and whilst the rest of the country head to Devon and Cornwall, North Norfolk remains a bit of a secret!) - - Certainly destination chargers are the way to go in North Norfolk (I have a MYLR) - although the North Norwich superchargers on the ring road are now open! - I love Brancaster, Thornham and their beaches (Have you tried the Life Boat Inn, just down the lane opposite to Thornham Deli?! - recommended after a beach walk!) - - our fave destination up there though has to be Blakeney Quay.....just love it round there! Grew up in Norwich (left in 86 and now live in Worcs) and my family had a caravan there in the 70s where we spent lots of summers! My Mum still lives just off Newmarket Road just up from The George Hotel so your trips east are familiar to me, though instead of Kings Lynn we use Elveden! - Watching your vids and seeing Norwich just makes me homesick! Keep them coming! BTW, have the same issues with the maps and it seems to be more frequent recently.....
Thanks Nick, yes its so lovely up there, I'm from East Norfolk and never ventured much to North Norfolk until I was in my 30's, we tend to go every year (sometimes twice for a little break now!) Yes lifeboat and Deli are amazing, have you been up to Erics Pizza and that area in Thornham?
@@MBrown yes we enjoy staying in various Air BnBs around N Norfolk. We tend to meet my Brother/his family at Thornham Deli (they live Cambridge) for lunch then a day on the beach, followed by a few jars in The Life Boat.... then we tend to spend more time around Blakeney, Cromer and Sheringham. Always try to visit my Mum/Sister in Norwich too! Last visit though found a converted barn in Diss - so we explored Aldborough and Southwold coastline in Suffolk - nice change!
@MBrown defo going to take a closer look at The White Horse though - had lunch there but never stayed, could be perfect for a couples weekend....(no kids/dog!)
@@nickbrooker1411 yeah lovely! It’s a great place! I feel like I really switch off and relax there too
@@MBrown well cheers for the vid and heads up! (do i get "MBrown Discount" when i mention the RUclips star who recommended them?!🙂)
Yes! Definitely seeing this issue.
Ah glad its not just me
I have the same problem with my maps not loading as well. I think its just a bug 🐛 that will get sorted on an update.
Yeah fingers crossed they will sort this soon!
Same here (Model Y).
Same problem here, 2022 M3
The White Horse hotel looks fantastic, and you were lucky with the weather as well which makes all the difference. Solid video as always Mark, and I also get the issue with the maps, generally only on longer journeys though.
Yeah I’d highly recommend it and doing the coastal walk behind the hotel
Is lovely!
Hi mark. I just ordered a model y with your referral code. Thanks for the £500 discount. Mel
Wow thanks Mel, hope it got you the money off and enjoy the car!!
Yep. My 3rd tesla now. Yep. I got the 500 off plus 4500 as it was ex demo
Same I’ve had the map bug,
Sorry to hear that!
How do you find the 19" sport wheels?
Yeah really good! I’ve had a few sports cars so don’t mind a firmer ride
As we have an LFP battery we often charge to 100% and it’s does make the car feel a lot different with no regen for the first few miles.
Hey cool hope you’re enjoying your car! That’s good, 100% is so handy on a long journey
@@MBrown love it. 44k in nearly 2 years with two Euro road trips one to Italy. Great fun.
I am getting slow map updating at times in areas where I never used to. I had initially put it down to poor mobile signal but am now not so sure.
Yeah it’s strange, I get it in even big cities
@@MBrown I am getting it mainly in rural areas. Hence my thought that it is a mobile signal issue. In my case it is just slow to populate the map squares on the screen.
Yeah I’m having the map issues again. A reset sorts it but that’s no use. I’ve done a service request twice now and they tell me it is a known fault and they are working on it so hopefully an update coming soon
Sorry to hear that
@@MBrown I’ve just had an update overnight last night so let’s hope that’s sorted it. Fingers crossed
I've had the map bug since getting a Model Y in March. It's intermittent
Oh wow a few months!
@@MBrown my theory is they've moved there mobile data to O2 😉
Norfolk is a great place. Why aren’t you living there?
Hey Stuart we're thinking of moving to Cornwall, however Norfolk is also top of our list too!
Yes. Im seeing the same issue with the map.
Thanks Chris, I’m hoping Tesla sort it out soon
Lots of good inspiration for a UK road trip, thanks Marc! Have you ever thought to "upgrade" to a model Y? seems like you do lots of road trips, you'd definitely have more space and comfort for those trips!
Hey Alan thanks so much! Yeah I think I would like to get the Model Y next… we’re moving to Cornwall so I’ll need space for a surf board!
Tesla say it's a problem with EE 5g upgrade
Hey Brian, yes it's been happening for months now, they really need to fix this when I pay £9.99 for maps 😂
@@MBrown I've had it happen many times back in the UK. Ironically, I've been driving a lot in France & Spain over the last week or so and it hasn't happened once over here...
Love the Lord Mayor's Procession, although it was better when it had floats, the fair at Chapelfield and fireworks from the castle. Did you bump into anyone you know that you haven't seen for years? 😉
Oh I thought the floats were on Saturday? (I went Sunday?) no I just saw my dad and mum there, so only had a few hours to spare!
@@MBrown ah, you are right of course! I heard you say you went into Norwich on Sunday but didn't put 2 and 2 together.
Nothing wrong with our maps on our m3 sr+
Glad to hear yours are ok
