- How to bleed any vq35de/rev up properly using Minimal tools. I’ve seen so many issues people have with overheating/ no heat issues. I thought this would make for a good video and clear the air. If not done this way there is 100% going to be air pockets in the system.
IG: @justindrifts
Best video I’ve seen yet , couldn’t find anyone with this info before hand so I had to go on alldata to find this info out ! But it’s great to see a excellent video and advice bits thumbs up will be sharing with other VQ friends !
theres like ten different ways to bleed the coolant and this is the easiest most clear way to do it thanks
H P good to hear! I try to make things super simple for my viewers!
This helped me tremendously. I had no clue to put it on ramps or lift the front.
My dad was like, since when do you need to lift the front to bleed a car? I said this isn't a car, it's an Infiniti. Haha
Awesome! Glad to help!
Another good tutorial. I remember when mine went bad when I first got my car. Definitely not a fun experience to drive the car to the shop constantly pulling over to the side to cool down.
Didn’t see anything on RUclips and had mine fail on me on way to work when it was extremely cold out. Figured it was a perfect opportunity for a vid.
For anyone having issues I did mine a while ago and I'm gonna have to do it again in like two days haha new Thermo and rad going in lol yay me. But for bleeding I found it really easy to follow the service manual instructions. I didn't completely open the bleeder though just unscrewed enough to where you hear air escaping. Then basically got a rock and pressed the gas pedal to the specified 3000 rpms. Squeezing hoses helps. And then sit back and drink a beer and something and watch the bleeder an temp. Didn't take long when I started doing it like that. But took like 6 normal cycles for me before that. Great video man!
What's your exhaust by the way? I like the sound of it
Another thing you can do is fill radiator and suspend the coolant overflow from hood latch and take cap off fill reservoir half way while radiator cap is on radiator and bleed it that way. Will see bubbles in the overflow reservoir that’s from air bleeding off. This way you don’t have to mess with bleeder screw.
Very nice of you to spend the time and make this video. I imagine your video has helped many people. I truly appreciate your video!! GBYAY!!
Glad it helped!
Thanks for the advise about the bleeder, I changed out me radiator over the weekend and didn't mess with the bleeder.
So I’ve been having a issue with mine I’ve been trying to bleeding it for like a week now and I keep getting air and it dumps into my overflow tank, I replaced my thermostat and hoses also installed the bleeder valve because I got a motor swap and it just had a heater hose connector. Do you believe it’s just air in the system? Because my head gasket is fine and everything else is fine
Finally a good video
Love to hear it!
Do you recommend opening the bleeder while car is running? And at normal operating temp or just at the beginning? Won’t it squirt out when running? Thanks for this video
Yes do it while running that’s how it bleeds
ive tried 2 new thermostats. bottom hose is cold and hard with pressure but no thermostat opening. i have decent heat and the motor is going 220 idle and higher driving.... air behind the thermostat? how do u get it out?
Why does my radiator hoses have little pressure and not hot? The car doesn't overheat, and no engine light? Is anything wrong?
I have replaced my thermostat and radiator cause the seam was cracked on my radiator. I'm having trouble getting the system bled properly. Is there like some special touch to bleeding this system smh I have an 04 coupe with only 150k miles..
Thanks bro. This helped out alot. Was having over heating issues.
No problem 👍
Best video I've seen thank you so much is very helpful.
Rafael Pagan always glad to hear! Share with your Infiniti friends.
So I changed my radiator, got a new thermostat, bled the system (there’s no more bubbles coming out of the bleeder screw) there’s still no hot air coming out and it’s overheating. Is it that there is still more air trapped in there or is it something else?
So what was it ...Was it the cooling fan ???
lone_soldier22 I had to bleed the system even more I was at it for about an hour before hot air started coming out. So I would turn the car on with the heater on let it come up to temp then once it was up to temp I turned it off bled the system then would turn the car on for about 10 seconds but while I had it on I was revving it to about 3k then turn it off bleed the system, then back on for another 10 seconds revving the car and bleed it and I repeated this until the heat started to come out. Even once heat come out make sure you keep going till the air is really hot and bleed it till there’s absolutely no bubbles and it was good to go and I haven’t had any issues since. If there’s still bubbles you aren’t done
I’m about to put my oem thermostat in cause the one Frm AutoZone def don’t open for me
I replaced the thermostat today, and it's not opening, all the coolant starts to boil and rise overflowing and making a mess . I'll probably put the original back on. Duralast crap
What was your solution bc I’m having similar issue…
Vacuum bleeding.
I put the original back on and problem fix, always go with the brand of the car thermostat.
hey what was that part called at the begging that you said to always check?
Hey man I got a question, I got my engine swapped and the swappers deleted the bleeder valve.. am I SIL or can I still bleed without the screw?
Can bleed without the screw if you vacuum bleed it or just order a new one from dealer/z1 Motorsports
Would I have to bleed the entire system if I'm just replacing one hose? It's the top radiator hose that is next to the overflow tank. Just asking before I do the job. Thanks!
yes anytime you introduce air into the system its always best to bleed the cooling system.
so if my hose on my thermostat side is cold and I just put a new thermostat. you should suggest my water pump?
No, keep bleeding water pump failure is very very uncommon on vq’s.
Man i wish we had friends to do these crazy mechanical stuff and tune up
Do you have to change the thermostat or can I just bleed it to take air out the system?
Kevin Madueno can bleed at anytime.
hey man im a really big fan , and i have a 350z project i just put and brand new swap in it and im having trouble bleeding the system i followed ur procedure and my thermostat isnt opening and car is blowing cold air at idle and at temperature and if i rev it it will start to over heat and the funnel will over flow and spill everywhere, and for some reason only my driver side fan is working the passenger one doesnt work now and i feel like its leaking a lil from the passenger side of the radiator, like when i didn’t replace the thermostat before the car will run fine for a good 1hr30 and then if i take it for a test run and back then it will start to overheat and blow cold air and now that i changed the thermostat its not opening and the car overheats faster now so and when i tryd pouring coolant , no coolant came out of the bleeder screw 😕
I’m not sure if you’re still answering questions - but I have my AC and heat deleted/not working- can I still bleed properly without the heat on ?
I’m sorry for late response if it’s looped yes you can still bleed.
If you don’t have a way to lift both sides of the front up, could you possibly park it on a hill with the front going up the hill and have the same effect?
Charles burkhart yeah radiator just has to be highest point.
I didn't drain my radiator is that a problem
Same question
I was having an over heating problem with my g35 also. I replaced the thermostat but it still kept overheating. The mechanic took off the spring on the thermostat so the water is constantly running through now. The thermostat we got from Autozone was different from the original but it’s supposed to be for a g35..but I see everyone else’s is different as well and seems to work fine. But just not my car. A new radiator was put on and was bleeded as well while installing the new thermostat. What you suggest? Should I find an original thermostat? It’s about to be winter and I can’t just get up and go in my car.
Ramiro Rangel you never want to run no thermostat or remove spring because hot coolant will just continue to circulate and not cool down as it’s designed. Mishimoto, and nismo have oem replacements and are very good thermostats I would look into those. Bleed it 100% and you’ll be good to go. The heat should be hot at idle Thant’s when you know you’re done.
@@Justindrifts hey would you know why the car wont turn over once i tried to turn it on i havent bled it yet you think its that ??
Bleeding has no effect on a car starting or not.
how exactly do you know when your done? i might have missed you say it but idk how to tell when i’m done bleeding. also how long should this take
Takes a decent amount of time when heat is hot at idle in car you’re done.
Ok so I need some help I filled the radiator up as much fluid as it would let in, I have my over flow tank hanging from the top of my hood with coolant in it, put the cap on the radiator, turned the car on, turned the heat high as it could go and also the fan for the AC everything full blast on 90 degrees circulating in the cabin and I let it run for about 5min total and i got one good air bubble out of the bleeder valve all other times it was just spitting coolant out and no air and that big hose at the bottom is cold and it was blowing out freezing air from the AC no hot air... And idk what the hell to do now so someone plz help me id appreciate it. Everything was working fine before I decided to bleed this coolant no problem with my thermostat or over heating i just wanted to change my coolant due to the summer time approaching.
Do not feel alone in this, I am going though the same damn thing ! So, I know when I am licked, it's doing to the mechanics, I'll PAY someone to take care of this headache !
Bleeding process can take a while. It’s long and annoying but will bleed. I’ve had some vq’s bleed easily and I’ve had some take a hr plus
Thermostat or water pump might be bad. Bleed it for a long time. If no improvement I'd look at replacing those one at a time
Actually, I'd check for any leaking hose first
I'm going through the exact same thing with my g35 did u figure out the problem please let me know i replaced the thermostat but the old one work fine but I didn't try the bleeding option yet I'm going to try it. I'm really hoping it's not the water pump I know it's not the head gasket no smoke or milky oil and no leaks
Hey at what point will the coolant come out the bleeder. Nothings coming out of mine
when majority of the air is out of the system
perfect video ! thank you man
That angle kit tho lol
Awesome explanation bro! And I love the coolant paint job 😋
Subscribed. 😃
CaptainZz thank you! 🙌🏻
Thanks, great video.👌🏾
I am currently bleeding mine right now, I'm on # 5 and i finally have heat but not at idle, wont air be pulled into the system if i open the bleeder with the car running ? And are you opening the bleeder with the car at operating temp or just as its heating up ? Great Video !
Opening it with car running.
How would I know if the system has bled bro ? And should I turn off the car after it’s done ?
You know it’s bled properly if there’s no more bubbles, heat is hot at idle and your not overheating
My car is overheating, the temperature goes up only when I park and when driving on freeway 😩
Buen video me gusto como lo manejaste en la nieve 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻fast and furios jeje
Just a quick question why would the thermostat open if the pressure and temperatures were the same on both sides it supposed to regulate when the temperature reaches a certain temperature which also means it's reached a certain pressure to collapse the spring ,it's not electronic it's mechanical if you were able to hold the thermostat ,pour that water in, i still doubt that test would work.. who taught you that ?.. i'm here looking for a solution for overheating in the g35... i wasn't on here to rip on you.. i still appreciate you posting information.. if that really works i'm sorry but i'm really mechanical...
The heat is what collapses the spring and opens the thermostat at certain point. This was a 170 thermostat so anything over 170 degrees will open. It’s a very viable way to check.
Can air get into the system from just topping off the reservoir? I put more coolant in my reservior one day and the following day my car started overheating
It can. Best bet is to vacuum bleed I have a video on here of that too.
@@Justindrifts okay thank you so much! Gonna go watch it rigit now
@@fairladyzed3157 if you don’t want to buy the Matco, snap on versions harbor freight has one too.
@@Justindrifts awesome! I really appreciate the advice ❤️
abour how long did it take
Yo we fb frendz my boy. You helped a brother out today 👌
Glad I could help!
Do u have to jack it up
On a 2004 350z is the bleeder the green nozzle?
George Cruise no I believe the one you’re referring to is evap related.
Hey brother what exhaust set up are you running?
Manzo test pipes,Stillen y pipe, 8” extension, isr gt single from 350Z
so i did the process and my car was good for 2 weeks and now theres no heat at idle and the bottom hose that goes to the thermostat is cold at temperature qnd temp line acts up but when i drive the car is fine and starts to blow hot air 😕 its like the thermostat kicks on at like 3-4 rpm but when i let off it starts to get cold agian at idle and line acts up and blowing cold air , new thermostat/overflow tank and hose replaced only and there is no leaks
Still air in system, Or faulty thermostat.
@@Justindrifts can u tell me the step by step process ? and i have a 04 350z im a big fan and i like ur car
I went over entire process in Video. Will have to bleed for a good amount of time. Thousands of others have done this without issue. I made it as simple as I could and pretty detailed.
@@Justindrifts yeah i understand but yeah i followed them i just wanted to know if there can be any other issues but its brand new motor and tranny everything is new in the car im just stuck on the bleeding process
@@qua_szn can also use a vacuum bleeder I made a video recently of this I believe I named it every mechanic needs this tool. A lot of shops like ours swear by this and will 100% remove all air and air pockets.
So would I still be able to do this if my climate control unit doesn’t work? Currently can’t use cabin heater bc I’m ordering a new climate control, but need to drive my car before it comes in mail
If that’s the case have to vacuum bleed which is the better alternative I have video on this it’s under “every mechanic needs this tool” for the method on this video you’re commenting on climate control needs to work for solid results.
@@Justindrifts gotcha thanks. Probably just going to take it in then. Also do you know what’s causing my vdc and slip light to come on? Doesn’t seem to be losing traction but lights are still there
@@ethanlong3674 are you auto or manual?
@@Justindrifts 2005 auto g35x
Could be brake fluid level, low pads, abs issue, wheel speed sensors, a number of different things. Scan the codes there may be some history codes to help point you in the right direction.
Can you tell mewhat the tork was for the bolts
which bolts for the thermostat?
Nice vid.mines ran hot on me today. What brand thermostat ya used?
Nismo t stat on my car. I’ve had good luck in the past with them. They have been able to handle daily driving, drift events and long trips.
I Don't have heat.I did the burp processes a few time with the car on ramps but still no heat.any thoughts would be appreciated
I’ve bled 100’s of z’s and g’s like this at the shop 🤷🏼♂️ this has always worked for me. Followed step by step. It’s about a half hr process
@@Justindrifts i drive like 20-30 min and then my car starts heating up i dnt loose coolant and i always have high heat .. ? is it thermostat also both hoses are warm top and bottom
Man I had my heat hot at idle for a couple of minutes thought I was good to go. Well after driving my car for about 20mins it overheated. The bottom radiator hose is not getting hot.. I just replaced my thermostat too. Could this be my water pump?
9moose2 very unlikely on these cars. Most likely needs more bleeding.
Bro get a z1 aluminum undershroud it is so worth it and Will keep the underside clean and safe
Had one ripped off in like 20 min
I’m going chassis braces soon.
Your awesome man!!
Thank you! 🙌🏻
Do you know the nissan part number? Thanks
I don’t I’m sorry.
I.think my thermostat is bad on my 08 m35 or my temperature sensor is bad
Remove and test. Or replace and vacuum bleed cooling system.
@@Justindrifts it's crazy because the temp gauge doesn't work unless the ac is on some days i get in the car and the heat is working great but other times its barely heating up i took a 6 hour trip yesterday it was like 38 degrees outside the temp gauge never moved throughout the whole trip the heat was barely blowing i think i might just change the thermostat and go from there
i bled the air out of mine like 10 times.....still no heat comes from the heater smh
It’s a lengthy process to fully bleed. Or can get a vacuum bleeder in later videos I show the vacuum bleeder it’s a true game changer.
@@Justindrifts Yea i eventually got it done, I havnt bought another infiniti since i sold that car lol
I have no fluides coming from the bleeder
That means you’re just releasing air which is a good thing.
Thank you good sir
You're welcome
Where is the purge line for the 06 350Z
What are you referring to
Back left
You need a shield under there to deal with that salt bro.
Car was too low for shields always ripped them off
@@Justindrifts If you can fit your hand under there sideways your good to get one. You can get it from either ZSpeed, Z1, or I prefer Concept Z Performance.
@@DragoMusivini no longer own any vq cars. I know where to get them. And I’ve installed more than I can count on fingers and toes. Just not for me kinda thing.
Where are you guys located?
Nevermind, just saw the plates
Mundelein,IL
hey the idiot owner before me stripped the bleeder, I bought a new one but I can't get the old one off (it has stupid screw clamps instead the squeezy kind), what would you recommend me do to bleed it and regain heat? I can provide pics
Sic Semper if bleeder is stripped can loosen or tighten with pliers.
@@Justindrifts i ended up getting the entire bleeder off and replaced it with a new one this morning. i gotta another question though, ive been filling with coolant, and turned on the heat but the coolant is boiling out of the rad and nothing is coming outta the bleeder. no hot air btw.
Sic Semper is car elevated? Is thermostat 100% good? Even if it’s new it’s always best to test it.
Justin Drifts yep it’s elevated and it’s 100% new. I shoulda tested it in hot water before hand but I’ve already got it fully installed. Should i keep adding more coolant
Sic Semper process will take between .5 to 1 hr be patient and it will work smoothly if thermostat is good. This procedure has worked with myself, others and my customers at the shop.
"If not done this way there is 100% going to be air pockets in the system" Even if i use a coolant air-vac?-nmv saw ur other vid!
Those are the two best ways I prefer the vacuum method but average person doesn’t have access to a compressor and that tool.
Awesome video 🔥
Great video brother, I need one of those funnels tho because, I got the "bubble blues" now !
Greg Jack there’s a couple comments below I added you can bleed thru the overflow too.
My overflow keeps overflowing 😂
Most likely flash boiling, or not bled entirely. Have you checked compression or leak down tested to make sure it’s not a blown head gasket?
if i don’t jack the car up can i still bleed the air ?
You can still bleed it just not as thoroughly. You can also zip tie coolant reservoir to the hood latch so it’s the highest point.
Just put on radiator cap once coolant is full turn it on with reservoir elevated and leave plastic cap off reservoir. You will see bubbles in the coolant reservoir as it’s bleeding
How would I know if the system has bled bro ? And should I turn off the car after it’s done ?
Please help me
What’s up?
eech...driving your car in the winter huh?
klepetar drove it year round as daily too.
Put a damn year model of the car

@@royrodezno2563 if I seen g35/350z I would consider it a z33 chassis Vq35de or rev up model. If you’re looking for hr I’ve done hr bleeding videos as well. But in those I use a vacuum bleeder.
@@royrodezno2563 this video is still relevant to hr or vhr. Just pick up a bleeder valve from z1 cut heater line and attach it and you can bleed as needed. On hr and vhr there is a bleeder port on drivers side in front of air box behind plastic front core support on the backside.
@@Justindrifts I have a 2008 and the coolant system is setup much different. I wasted time to find out it's not even the same model year. There's alot of difference between year models.
I hope you washed this damn thing. lol

If the heater works, does that indicate that the thermostat is working properly? I have my G35 on ramps, no leaks, but the coolant reservoir was empty which is where i think air entered my system. I have bled the system 5 times now, each time bubbles show up in the reservoir, but i still am overheating. reservoir is now at max and has gone down over the last 5 bleed cycles. Any suggestions?
if Heater Works = thermostat works?
then, keep bleeding until overheating stops?
Tim Olding should feel hot heat in cabin of car at idle. And if thermostat is working fans will kick on and cycle the coolant thru the system. Temps won’t go above half at least they shouldn’t of done correctly.
@@Justindrifts i have plenty of heat at idle, but still overheating, had the car on ramps and cycled through at least 6 times where i could see bubbles in the coolant reserivour, still overheating. drove around the block, overheated had the heater on high, still overheating. fans kick on, then on high, then overheats.
Sounds like you still have a big air pocket. I’ve had luck with hanging the overflow up to the hood latch keeping it elevated. Left the radiator cap on and just filled and bled with the overflow tank. Since posting this video I have a new way of doing things and bought a special bleeder from Matco it’s one of my recent videos.
