As so many mentioned, this was my first smartphone as well. I played lots of games. explored internet. Internet was filled with good stuffs back then. Nostalgic.
I really wanted this phone but glad i went with the Xperia E instead. Literally still works till this day while my chinese androids keeps having to be replaced after 2 years.
This was my first "smartphone"....i was so excited that day and remember using it for approx 3 years since i was 17 at the time. I experienced the Facebook and overall internet for the first time because of this device. Thank you for refreshing my memories. The removable battery era phones really brings back memories.
i also used this as my very first proper smartphone as previous phones of mine where just basic "feature" phones which back in 08/09 where just normal phones and i had mine from 2011 to 2014 when i saved up to buy a galaxy s5 mini but that small young, for as basic of an android phone it was i have to thank it for getting me heavy into android and staying loyal to it . currently rocking a galaxy S21 FE 5G
A lot of people had this phone around me at the time. My first smartphone was a Galaxy Ace with the same android version and design. Brings back a lot of memories as well.
Galaxy Y was my dream mobile back then. I didn't have the money to purchase it. Right now, I'm writing this comment from my S23 ULTRA. I'm proud of myself and above all THANK GOD.
Hey. I have a galaxy s20 ultra and it's starting to break. Should I upgrade to a s22+ (not sure I can afford the s23 ultra) or should I just repair mine? Wireless charging would help me a bunch
This was my first smartphone too and it had so much of Dev support on xda. Used to flash custom Roms every month, custom boot animations and twrp. Absolutely loved it!
This was my first smartphone that I got as a gift on my 15th birthday in 2013. I still have it although its battery is busted, rendering the phone useless. I tried to get a new battery but nobody has it locally, and I don't trust online retailers when it comes to batteries. Its so nostalgic to see it working properly! Its camera might be bad today but the memories I took with it back then are absolutely precious. Good video!
this was my first phone back in 2012. Being an Indian, my parents gifted me this for scoring 96 per cent in my high school. There is too much nostalgia. still have it in my drawer.
@@christmasisawesome9348 Probably a lot LOL. 96% means he was disciplined enough to study hard for the exam, and discipline carries on to adulthood. Good for you brother. That being said this phone was absolute flaming hot trash, just like basically every other budget phone of that era. That being said it was probably all your parents could afford so good for them too.
@@christmasisawesome9348By Indian academic standards these days, getting 96 percent in high school exams is peanuts. Same goes for standards of higher education, except in some prestigious technical institutions. At the end of it we get a graduate who is pretty much unemployable.
This was my brother's first smartphone, he upgraded from a 5800 Xpress Music which got handed down to me. It was on the Galaxy Y that I first explored rooting and custom ROMs. I waited a long time to get it as a hand me down but it completely broke down after two years or something. Good times!
I use my Samsung t499 as a "music phone" with, i belive a 128gb mem card. I Bluetooth to company vehicle...headphones... personal car... and home sound system. My music library, everywhere i go. Going strong now for 15+ years
I had this smartphone when I was a child, it was my first smartphone. At the time it was already bad, as it crashed a lot, imagine today. I don't know what I did with mine, but it's nostalgic. It was an extremely cheap smartphone in Brazil.
My first Android, bought it in 2011 and the experience was phenomenal, everything worked great for what it was at that time, i remember rooting it and installing custom roms in it so to save the apps in the SD card instead of mere 160 MB internal storage that we were getting with this tiny device, i actually still miss removable batteries and the SD card support and Head phone jack,😅😂😂 Currently Rocking S23 ultra, which unsurprisingly has none of the above features, i think the smartphone market has already peaked and now the companies are just looking to cash the cow with their iterative updates.
This was also my first smartphone. This video was a blast to the past. Unlocked quite a few memories. I wish I could go back and appreciate this phone more.
This is weirdly nostalgic. I had a HTC phone around this time that I used to blow my friends minds with by emulating Game Boy Advance games and stuff like that. I had a friend who adamantly didn't believe me untill I put the phone in his hand and showed him Leaf Green running. Now you can basically emulate everything even with a wireless controller... but I'll always have fond memories of this weird transitionary phase between dumb and smart phones.
3:25 yeah i also really like those physical home buttons. it just feels so nice. i just haven't seen a touch screen or capacitive button that does it better. also i think it makes unlocking phone much easier assuming you don't want to use face id or fingerprint.
yes I love how it clicks too. it’s why I’m rocking an iPhone 8+ is because I love pressing a home button lol. although.. the home button is just vibration on the 8+… still feels guuuuud
I also miss a lot the physical buttons, I always used devices with the physical ones, and now I have one with virtual buttons. I've been using that one device for long enough to get used to it, but I still wish it had physical buttons.
This is also my first smartphone way back to 2014 when I'm now on my first year college. I've also played my first Pokemon game on a GBA emulator, Pokemon Yellow, and all of the apps like FB lite, Gmail, RUclips and other apps run well and it doesn't require a lot of RAM for it. And yes, it's true, the battery life is very long, I left my house to go to school 100% then went back home 8 hours later and it's on around 60 to 50%. I've played songs and playing games with it and I don't ask for much back then. Until 2017 when I had my first paycheck and I bought a new phone and gave this samsung to my little cousin. Seeing the Galaxy Y's boot up screen, the menus and even the music app brings me back to the (not so) good old days of college. And this phone keeps me busy from good to bad times. As much as I missed this phone for it's fast response to some of the apps and plays GBA emulators perfectly well, we had to move on since technologies are developing faster than before. But I'm glad I'm one of them boys who owns this bad boy for 3 years... Thanks Mom!
I had Galaxy Mini back in the days. I developed a method for taking selfies without front camera, and it was a journey lol So much good memories from your video brother
This was my first android phone. It had a huge developer support on XDA So many custom roms to choose, you could also overclock it from 836 MHz to 1.2HGHz It was an amazing device for the time, it lacked a front facing camera, this phone made me what I am today I have a lot of memories with it This phone came with a broadcomm CPU hence they weren't developer friendly hence it didn't get any major android updates. It was running 2.3.6 but there were ROMs upto 4.4 KitKat but those were just ROMs with a skin nothing special
Once i found a actual 4.4 kitkat rom for that device, all major features worked, then i went back to default rom because of bugs, it had a lot of cool roms, but i wanted the default look for nostalgia
i had a galaxy y twice, a 6-7 years time gap between each. The first time i had it it was great! But the second time i couldn't install whatsapp and update youtube at the same time because it would run out of storage VERY FAST. And the youtube version that came with it would still work, but with no recommendations and the channel names would be what they were ages ago, and new channels would be just numbers. It was very cool to see that android 2 still worked, even if weirdly.
I still remember the date when I (read, my parents) bought this on 27th December 2011. I bought it against the advice of the seller, who showed another Samsung non Android phone with a front camera. At that time, this screen size was nothing like I'd ever seen. I still have the now-bricked device sitting in one of the drawers somewhere. Surprised to see this here, lol.
This was my first smartphone after owning Razr-style Motorola flip phone for a while. I saw a similar model to the one shown and fell in love with it due to how small and cute it looked, a couple of my high school friends had Samsung S1's or 2's and I thought mines looked adorable next to it. Now my current smartphone dwarfs it by about 3x. Weird how that works.
I have a Galaxy Fame from 2013 running Android 4.2. A lot of the preinstalled Samsung apps no longer work, and some Google apps have been depriciated. There are some sideloaded app workarounds, but the single core processor is excruciatingly slow in operation.
I still have this.. the problem was the battery😅..and still remember the feeling for having this when it first out on the market.. And the game that i played on this phone was CLASH OF CLANS
This was the phone from which i learned how to remove pattern locks using recovery(was a piece of cake compared to now), rooting android and virtual ram and all. Played subway surfer and dr driving a lot in this phone. Touch was smooth. A lot of memories with this phone ❤
Modern Combat series, NOVA series, 9mm, Backstab, Shadow of Guardian, Gangster series and lots of other 3d games played on this era of Samasung Galaxy Pop(Galaxy Mini)
I had this phone back in the day, one of the 'problems' I had with this phone was because the screen resolution is too low, some apps just don't render properly lol. Some ui elements are just completely cut off or covered by they keyboard 😂. And sometimes when plugged into a charger, the screen would glitch and to interact with the phone, you had to unplug it first. I was so happy when I got to upgrade to an Xperia Mini Pro.
Man this was my mum's first smartphone which later became me and my sis's shared-handmedown. We used to play jetpack joyride and hill climber. So many memories :') I still have it and it works...pretty well lol.
I found so many of these cleaning the parking lot of my workplace at the time. I think I had like 4 Galaxy Y and 2 or 3 Galaxy phones lmao. Ended up donating them all to those programs that give out free phones to people.
My first Galaxy phone was an S3, the purple one from Sprint (RIP). This was such a nostalgic watch for me, especially the description of picking up the phone's back panel and battery when it fell. I got a case for my phone very quickly after that. It also survived a stint in the pacific ocean LOL I miss that phone.
i used this as my very first proper smartphone as previous phones of mine where just basic "feature" phones which back in 08/09 where just normal phones and i had mine from 2011 to 2014 when i saved up to buy a galaxy s5 mini but that small young, for as basic of an android phone it was, i have to thank it for getting me heavy into android and staying loyal to it . currently rocking a galaxy S21 FE 5G
Damn, Nostalgia! This was my first ever smartphone. I still have it right now in my hometown. My mom bought this for me and for my little brother, I was so excited to use it and I use it as a main internet surfing device for about 3-4 years.
This was my first smart phone, and i also got it with 5 different back covers, inside the box! It is soo nostalgic when you remember the days that smartphones had removable batteries and back covers..
Hahaha I used to drop this phone a lot and the back cover and battery went everywhere in our lecture room. Without care for dent and scratches. Simpler times
I got a Galaxy S (the og 2010 model) off of eBay recently, and wanna add a few things based on my experience using that: 1. not sure if this is common across early Samsung Galaxy phones but if I tried plugging my pair of headphones into the 3.5mm, the sound is kinda muted until I hold down the button that usually plays/pauses music 2. the image quality might not be always terrible but the photo taking process is so tedious...you pretty much have to wait 5-15s depending on if it wants to focus correctly before you can take the photo
About the first problem, it's probably due to OMTP on your old Samsung vs CTIA on your newer headphones. Both are 3.5mm jack standard btw. Cheap adapter can solve that issue.
Ooohh that's nostalgic af! Haha thank you for uploading this video. That phone was actually my first android phone haha that size of a phone used to look and feel bigger before lmao
Man this brings back memories. This was my first phone. Didnt realize it was this small though! Also rooting this and installing custom roms was soo cool back then. Gave me a feeling like a hacker (ps i was 14). Thanks for the video!!
this is my first phone, and YES i use it as MP3 player and to emulate NES and GBA game on the go, so i dont runs out of battery on my main phone (i have smol finger so i have no issue LOL) and the video quality is absolutely stunning..... if you view it from the phone itself my first phone is beast. loved it, bricked it a few times while installing roms and mods but hey it still works tho
My first smartphone, bought in my undergrad, by saving pocket money. Hardly anyone around me was using an android (forget iOS, it was too expensive for students in India back then)
When I was 12 years old my aunt's got me a mini smartphone called the LG Optimus Fuel and it had an RGB button. I used that thing to play games and listen to MP3 Music and I loved it so very much.
I had this exact phone back in 2012. Dad purchased one for me when I was 12 as a basic smartphone with some features above the usual call and messaging stuff. This video is definitely nostalgic for me!
man the nostalgia, this was my second phone actually but the first that i could choose the model myself ... loved the little guy and i even have him in a drawer somewhere lol ... just recently i took it out and compared it to my note20 ultra, bruh the difference in size ... its so funny cause when i first got the Y the screen looked huge to me after i had used a nokia flip phone for a while
My first phone like many people. I remember this coming with like 4 different coloured backs which was pretty cool. That was basically the same as having 4 phones
This was my first android phone, coming from older phones I remember it was like a night and day difference. This phone was so buttery smooth back then and it was the start of a new generation of phones. So nostalgic
This is my first smartphone, I got it in 2012 from my brother. My friends had this too, but we often had a problem where the battery got inflated if we accidentally drop it after several times. This phone still powerful enough to run popular games that time, such as angry birds. Sadly it doesn't support clash of clans or subway surfers due to obsolete android.
Oh my lord! This was my first phone. And i had rooted it and had custom ios rom running on it. I was the coolest kid in school😂❤. God those were some good days.
this was my late older brother first android phone, i still remember accompanying him to the store to buy it.... he passed away around a year later in early 2014. my mom still keep it at home man i miss him so much
and for those who were unable to still afford an android during that time, we have the Samsung Corby. Anyone else still remember flashing different bootscreens and themes to emulate android likeness at that time? Man I miss those times
This was my first touch screen phone also, lots of nostalgic memories for this phone. What I really love the most is that, I met the love of my life using this phone way back 2012 and now it's 2024. Daanng, missed this phone Galaxy young.
This was my first smartphone :D. I remember that I copied some ripped 480p X-Files episodes on it . They stuttered every 15 seconds but I was still amazed that I could watch movies anywhere. Long train/bus rides were never boring again. I also read all of the "Song of Ice and Fire" books on that tiny screen. It's crazy to think but 12 years ago it seemed really huge.
This was my second phone and my first smart phone.. Now using the S23 ultra.. What a journey.. Miss this phone, remember how it used to get stuck when I press back
As so many mentioned, this was my first smartphone as well. I played lots of games. explored internet. Internet was filled with good stuffs back then. Nostalgic.

it was my 1st phone in 2013, 10 years ago, I miss that time so much
Damn, Nostalgia!
I think they should bring back removable batteries it saves so much money
Hahaha I used to drop this phone a lot and the back cover and battery went everywhere in our lecture room. Without care for dent and scratches. Simpler times
I got a Galaxy S (the og 2010 model) off of eBay recently, and wanna add a few things based on my experience using that:
1. not sure if this is common across early Samsung Galaxy phones but if I tried plugging my pair of headphones into the 3.5mm, the sound is kinda muted until I hold down the button that usually plays/pauses music
2. the image quality might not be always terrible but the photo taking process is so tedious...you pretty much have to wait 5-15s depending on if it wants to focus correctly before you can take the photo
About the first problem, it's probably due to OMTP on your old Samsung vs CTIA on your newer headphones.
Both are 3.5mm jack standard btw. Cheap adapter can solve that issue.
That's the only thing that really gets me about old phones. I can read my mails and texts as I'm not a gamer but damn the cameras are terrible.
The S2 was much better than the OG S1. You should try that one out
Ooohh that's nostalgic af! Haha thank you for uploading this video. That phone was actually my first android phone haha that size of a phone used to look and feel bigger before lmao
It seems to be, this phone is everyone's first ever smartphone.
Man this brings back memories. This was my first phone. Didnt realize it was this small though!
Also rooting this and installing custom roms was soo cool back then. Gave me a feeling like a hacker (ps i was 14).
Thanks for the video!!
this is my first phone, and YES i use it as MP3 player and to emulate NES and GBA game on the go, so i dont runs out of battery on my main phone (i have smol finger so i have no issue LOL)
and the video quality is absolutely stunning..... if you view it from the phone itself
my first phone is beast. loved it, bricked it a few times while installing roms and mods but hey it still works tho
that’s so awesome! I made a newer video with a rom on this playing newer games.. it runs like a gem!!!
this is my first smartphone
galaxy y...
wow....wat a experinece❤
My first smartphone, bought in my undergrad, by saving pocket money. Hardly anyone around me was using an android (forget iOS, it was too expensive for students in India back then)
I remember my older brother having this as his first smartphone.idk why seeing it is so nostalgic even though i was very young at that time
Nostalgic!!! My first android smartphone was galaxy Y….still own it but completely dead😢
I still own it and it works i still use it as my main phone to call and stuff
we're 9 months into 2024 already? whew time flies by
When I was 12 years old my aunt's got me a mini smartphone called the LG Optimus Fuel and it had an RGB button. I used that thing to play games and listen to MP3 Music and I loved it so very much.
That was my very first smart phone!
Can't believe we were okay with typing on smartphones this small.
my personal favourite is probably still the s3 mini but obviously it's not really that good anymore because now we have better CPUs.
I’ll add the s3 mini into the line of phones to look at 😏 these older phones are so fun and cool
@@johnzoid74apparently alot of other people liked it too. It seems to be like one of the most sold samsung android phones. 😯
@@johnzoid74 From where did you bought that phone?
I must be the only person in the world that still downloads all my music ..
I had this exact phone back in 2012. Dad purchased one for me when I was 12 as a basic smartphone with some features above the usual call and messaging stuff. This video is definitely nostalgic for me!
My 1st smartphone❤
man the nostalgia, this was my second phone actually but the first that i could choose the model myself ... loved the little guy and i even have him in a drawer somewhere lol ... just recently i took it out and compared it to my note20 ultra, bruh the difference in size ... its so funny cause when i first got the Y the screen looked huge to me after i had used a nokia flip phone for a while
My first phone like many people. I remember this coming with like 4 different coloured backs which was pretty cool. That was basically the same as having 4 phones
this video is from 2023, but today in 2024
Simple, he just wants the video to essentially be updated and relevant to whatever year it is.
my 2015 phone ❤🦾🦾 oh how I miss the loading screen of samsung the visual and the tone! just a bit curious why we don't have it now in present?
This was my first android phone, coming from older phones I remember it was like a night and day difference. This phone was so buttery smooth back then and it was the start of a new generation of phones. So nostalgic
This brings tears to my eyes 😢
I remember having one and loving the shit out of it, I remember actually downloading some graphically demanding games and it handled them just fine
Oh yeah, Dead Space and Mass Effect Infiltrator was the shit back then, I also loved to play a lot of racing games and of course Hill Climb Racing
Great! I love old Samsung phones. This is just a time machine!
Had this phone from 2012-14 back in HS, around 2014 i got clowned so much for it lol
Something about the packaging of the phones of this era is romantic, I had an HTC Wildfire S back then.
Bro the mic is insane
5:17 best moment❤
It was my 1st smartphone.. helped me in my college during exams (hidden in sleeves) ❤❤❤
My first Android cellphone, when other people used BlackBerry and BBM, I used Android which previously couldn't use BBM 😅
Wasn't it released in 3013'?
2013"
Hey buddy. The smallest phone of Samsung is 2.8 inch. It is Samsung Galaxy Pocket, the original one.
good catch!!
Do qwerty phones
great idea.. any one in specific ?
@@johnzoid74 samsung galaxy ch@t, blackberry curve (any), or nokia c3-00
Oh my lord! This was my first phone. And i had rooted it and had custom ios rom running on it. I was the coolest kid in school😂❤.
God those were some good days.
this was my late older brother first android phone, i still remember accompanying him to the store to buy it.... he passed away around a year later in early 2014. my mom still keep it at home
man i miss him so much
Sooo many people had this phone back then.
The samsung galaxy 3 is still my favorite phone that i ever got to use. Nothing comes close to it when i first got one.
When I passed my class 7 , my cousin bought me this phone , it was so big during those days 😊 nostalgic
and for those who were unable to still afford an android during that time, we have the Samsung Corby.
One of my first smartphone, love it and it still run after all these years.
This was my second phone and my first smart phone.. Now using the S23 ultra.. What a journey.. Miss this phone, remember how it used to get stuck when I press back
I actually had this in highschool. It's pretty cool because it comes with multiple backcovers (I used the orange one). A real blast from the past.
I like how the AGM M7 is just chilling in the background. Most people probably don't know there are rugged keypad Androids still in production.
Just watching this and that tapping on the android software feature is awesome!! I tried it on my tab s9 fe+ and my z flip 4 and it worksss!!!!!
my first phone was the Samsung galaxy s6 and its hilarious to see the s voice not working 🤣🤣
That was my first smartphone 😂 GT S5282 I still remember this model
This was my first smartphone back in 2012.
Loved it.
Used it for 3 years
holy this was my first smartphone i got. got it in like 2012 when i was in middle school. remember this phone so vividly
