  • Cities Skylines 2 just released what's undeniably the most significant update yet to Cities 2. This patch update adds PDX Mods, beta modding to the game alongside the Editor. The free game patch update tunes performance issues, fixes land value, and aims to make a load of other bug fixes/ improvements. Broadly all good stuff. Colossal Order also released the Beachfront Properties DLC, a paid expansion that adds low-density beachfront housing and some palm trees. I'll cover all the updates, then share my personal review of the patch & DLC. Thanks for watching! #citiesskylines2 #simulation #gaming

Nah, in 2 years and 5 DLCs no one will care. Hoi4 was practically empty when it came out and you could win with pure artillery. EU4 was a shell of EU3. CK3 was a buggy mess. Stellaris was completely whack. Victoria 3 was a disaster. Imperator Rome just died. What happened to March of Eagles?
But now all of those but March of Eagles are classics that people love and dozens of streamers make a living off of.
They dont care. They know theyll bring everyone back eventually. Its not like theres any competition out there. Paradox has cornered the Grand Strategy market.

It is actually more on Colossal order. These timeliness for releasing the game are made well in advance. It is like a contractor remodeling your bathroom. You two agreed to 5 days, then he asked for 3 more days. You say no, so the bathroom is half finished. Who is more at fault, the contractor who undersold the amount of time needed or you who didn't want to give more time? That doesn't take in to account outside factors like if the contractor had more jobs lined up or if you were having friends over and that's the only bathroom.

The thing that *truly* drives me nuts with beach front property DLC, even now that it's free in an attempt at damage control, is that it doesn't include **BEACHES**. There's still no way to make one without some hackery with textures and the dev tool. I would have even settled for a CS1 style beach plot, but they have the ability now to do it right:
Add it as a zone (like a quarry/farm) that requires part of it be in the water and part of it touch a road. Make the zone sandy. Plop some random assets along the beach like chairs, umbrellas, lifeguard towers. plop some assets along the road side like small parking lots and/or bathrooms/changing rooms/showers. Maybe even add some warning bouys out in the water where the beach zone ends. Make it function like any other park.
They **have** the tech to make this, I thought that's what this DLC was all about. Outright offended it's just a scant few houses, palm trees, and not a single dang beach!

At this point I’m more concerned that the whole game is going to be a write off and they’re just going to dump it. The only thing that cannot be changed is the economy system which at this point is so broken I don’t think anybody wants it in CS1.

What really turns me sour against CO currently is that the marketing team advertised CS2 as a city *builder* game, NOT a city *painter* game, which is what it inevitably launched as.
Yes, there are a lot more in depth graphs and "controllable" parts to the economy, but the game holds your hand so hard it simply doesn't allow you to make mistakes with the economy and ultimately whatever you choose is voided. (Plus it was released with a load of bugs that messed with those hand holding economics, making any city over 20k population a nightmare)
I would have been FAR happier if CO released the game under the impression that they were implementing core economic and transportation features over time and let us know as players that they were indeed hand-holding the player whilst they transitioned the game from a city painter style game to a proper city simulation game whilst they fined tuned the core data.
But instead they called the community toxic, buckled down, praised themselves for releasing a new DLC pack and completely ignored the community on real issues.

I spent somewhere over $200 on CS1 and it's array of DLCs and for a very long time to come I see myself as perfectly happy to keep playing it. In fact, I think if they keep adding DLCs to the original game, I'd probably keep on buying them when they're on sale. I have yet to see any reason to upgrade to CS2. Seeing the content in this DLC and new to the CS game genre in general, I'm absolutely appalled by this DLC. I own the base game and not the ultimate edition, and to see them give owners of the Ultimate edition this "non-beachy" Beach DLC. The lack of content. I was prepared to buy it today, but I'll wait till its 75% off. I came with the hope of developing maps that might be used by players, as a landscape artist I love using editors to create worlds. I'm sadly disappointed in this, and unless I see some sort of community apology (or make right) by the developers I'll probably end up shelving this game. $15 CAD+ tax. Insane for this. I have had the same question for a while in regard to the relationship between Paradox and CO. I feel like CO is being subsidized just like the economy in their game to the point where they can't fail. This is just an assumption of course but in an interview with the CEO from years back she does mention getting some kind of subsidy, possibly from the government. If this is true then it explains why they function like an HR office working for the state, lazy AF. Unfortunately for them this isn't some cozy state job where the only requirement is to show up the minimal days required for them to get a check and a pension. I place a lot of the blame on an incompetent CEO that has no merit and lacks enthusiasm and pride for what she does other than her one contribution to the game in the form of "chirper". She has enough money and more from the success of version 1 to retire to a life of grooming ponies and eating cake. Let a real developer take over so that this game doesn't crash and burn any more than it already has.

    • @SuperMickyChow

@@SuperMickyChow "seems like the system is working perfectly". Is it though ? The negative reception to being continuously lied to with misleading promotional material and being sold a minimum viable product would indicate that these companies can't sustain the current broken model that they rely on. People aren't as stupid as these companies want them to be.
Now the question is if they have no consumers buying their product in the future and they are still in business, where is the money coming from and why are they not allowed to fail ?

    • @SuperMickyChow
      @SuperMickyChow 3 месяца назад +1

@thephantomchannel5368 I meant from the point of view of Mariina, the system is working perfectly.
She gave an interview in 2019 to PC Gamer where she said (completely unironically) that the thing she loves most about being CEO of Colossal Order is "Money and fame".
She also confirmed she knew nothing about gaming, had no relevant game development qualifications and was asked to run CO by "an old friend from high school", so I'd add she probably loves nepotism, too.
The big issue with the CS2 release was the fact that so many people pre-ordered and paid in advance for an overhyped product. Then, at launch, they were told by CO/Mariina to let them try and fix it, which ensured almost everyone exceeded the maximum 2 hour play window to get a refund on Steam.
This was a deliberate, calculated and cynical exploitation of the Steam refund system, customer faith/goodwill & the desperation of gamers to have a quality product to play.
So, the system(s) are all working in CO's favour. People who continue to purchase DLC, CCPs and other paid content for this game are only encouraging this behaviour at the expense of the gaming community at large, for their own selfish reasons.
The only way to break the system is not be part of it. The only winning move is not to play.
Let's see how the first "proper" DLC sells - that will be interesting. I fear that the improvements and bug fixes that have been rolled out with the Beachfront Properties pack will actually convince many who are not playing to come back to the game.
The concurrent player figures for the weekend will be the best indicator of this - it is Easter weekend in the UK, so UK players will have up to 4 days off work to explore the updates.

    - DLC: I was not waiting for it yet, although I bought the ultimate edition. It feels a bit underwhelming. Let's hope the signature buildings are nice, although I worry since they forgot to fix the bug causing some signature buildings not to work.
    - music: it was about time for additional music, but unfortunately I like the new channel less than the others
    - bugfixing: well....visually the changed some things, but they forgot to solve the actual problem. Industrial warehouses are still being abandoned due to vehicles not leaving the building. High density residential buildings still seem stuck at level one, no matter how high the land value. And on top of that I'm now seeing that the highest land value in my city is in fact on the outer border of the city with almost no services close by and directly against the highway.
    - Modding: I leave commenting on it up to the modders
    - Asset editor: still in beta
    - Bugfixing: so far I didn't find a single bug that was fixed
