  • Show cars are at the centre of Gail and Tony’s social lives. They spend thousands of dollars customizing a beloved jeep and touring it around the province for a shot at…a trophy. But their passion for cars could be driving them into a retirement of poverty. Can these two turn the situation around?

    Love the two Gails. Tony seems like an albatross, what is she doing with him. He is using her like a sugar mama. She’s funny and clever and if she can get away from the cars she will do great.

      Well they don't need to be debt free, they need to be smart, able to pay their debts, etc. You need to have some kind of revolving credit so asking for someone to be 100% debt free with absolutely no revolving credit or assets means their credit score is probably not great and they spend all of their cash on necessities instead of having some to put into savings/IRAs etc.

    The Intro sounds like she keeps him afloat, but he doesn’t respect her enough to make better decisions. The timeshare is the MOST RIDICULOUS thing ever....they used a credit card for it....OMG

    • @barnabusdoyle4930
      @barnabusdoyle4930 4 месяца назад +4

      Fun fact,
      When you purchase a time share, you are usually using a credit card given to you by the time share company for the down payment on the timeshare, then you have a mortgage on the timeshare that currently runs as a 10 year loan with a 24% interest rate. Like buying a house on a credit card. Add onto it the $1500 a year they charge you for maintenance fees and such for the timeshare.
      I have never understood why people still buy timeshares when they are so well known for being terrible. Nowadays, all the big hotel companies sell access to some of their high end properties as timeshares. They use the exact same method and tell the retired couple getting it that they can have their kids inherit it when they pass, which would normally bankrupt their kids too.

      I don’t like the argument that the individual who brings in the most money has a bigger say over the way it is spent. We have been together for 40 years and earning power means nothing when we make major decisions. There were times I’ve made more, and times he did, but all decisions are agreed to by us both. From the moment we married it became our money, and that has never changed. I don’t want to be in a marriage where we have separate anything. Except for sox/underwear drawers, because that just makes sense.

    Classic story, he marries a good hearted, homely, overweight, middle aged woman, who makes over double what he does a year, is buying her own home, and gets her to take on debt (bet that he came into the marriage with nothing). He doesn't want to lose her, because his standard of living on 27k a year wouldn't allow him to have any of the things he can have with her income, along with a nice place to live.
    I have two different friends (one had been divorced for years and the other was a widow) that this happened to in middle age, and when both of them pulled in the rein's and started paying off all the debt these guys talked them into, both of the men left them. Unless this guy had enough brains to realize that losing her would cost him a comfy lifestyle and retirement (think how low his retirement alone would be based on 27k a year), my guess would be that they are no longer together, if she followed through and stopped the crazy spending.

    If I bought a car I should not have bought while in debt, I wouldn't be happy about it.

      @ryderpatch The Princess episodes are now on RUclips. Do a search for RUclips Princess Gail Vaz-Oxlade and they will come up. Be sure to add Gail's name to the search, otherwise you will get the Disney princess shows.

      @@suzieq390 There is a correlation between over spenders and over eaters. My mother is a prime example. Always over weight and spending. A lot of times people over spend bc they feel crappy about themselves due to being over weight and unable to control themselves so they over spend to make themselves feel better.
