The much anticipated 2017 KTM Duke 390 is here in an all new avatar and it is ready to take your breath away. It has a ton of goodies packed into this blazing orange package - the all-digital TFT console, ABS, an LED headlight, 320 mm disc brakes, a ride by wire system, wider foot pegs and a sharper, leaner design.
How does the Duke 390 compare to its own sibling - the all new Duke 250? And will it leave all of its competitors, especially the Dominar 400 far behind? Watch my review video to find out.

seen many KTM videos...but nothing so amazing as this video....superb video, superb pickup, superb bike.....the reason i liked was...u took the viewer on the ride ...felt like i was riding, i got involved..it was not like watching..it was like riding this amazing bike.....keep it up..
That's so great to hear 👍 When I make these videos, I'm always trying to make the viewer a part of the ride by creating an immersive experience.
The Savant Life. Nice video bud. Lucky you got a chance to ride it. I was told from the same showroom that I would get a test ride at the end if the month. Any chances if getting a little discount throught your referral though?
The Savant Life I guess I have spotted you reviewing this bike .. but I got to say man you have some quality language not a common thing in indian vlogs keep it up ^^ ..
Exactly man, 👍😀
Being German, I am amazed how you guys survive city traffic like that :'D
You just get used to it. But I do see your point of view though.
started riding 2 months ago on a mt15...now weaving through traffic occassionally with near misses..you get used to anything once you get a handle on your bike
Hey, Before I start sayin somefin ill jus give my little intro, I am a biker from City Called Vancouver on the West Coast of Canada. I dont have a youtube channel so that means I dont make vlogs. I own a KTM Super Duke R (2016), Which is my second bike after MV Agusta Brutale Dragster 2013. I was born in India State called Punjab. My father immigrated to Canada in 1999 when I was 9. I follow some Bike Vloggers from Canada, US & UK. I am watching quite a videos from Indian vloggers from past few weeks because I am planning a trip to Leh Ladhak in the Himalayas. My point is after going through couple a youtubers I want to appreciate your channel the way you speak in those vlogs and demonstrate everyday life in india to people who are sitting outside like me n giv'em a glimpse of ur life through the lens. Hope ur channel will grow everyday. Loads more to come right? Am I the first North American Subscriber lol. Cheers Mate! liked, subscribed, commented. :)
It's great to get feedback from the other part of the world. I have maybe a handful of North American subscribers but I think you're the first one to write in with such detail. Thanks for your wishes - I sure hope to grow the channel and get more subscribers from all over the world. Lastly, good luck with the Leh-Ladakh trip - pretty sure it's going to be awesome :)
I felt like you were going to hit someone at least 37 times in this video.
Lol😂😂
your english is better than any other Motovlogger in India.
Thanks matey
yeah I was about to say that exactly.
No.
Yeah
True
It's hard for me to focus on the bike itself, as I'm watching the insane traffic and lane-splitting you have to do to just ride through the city. I don't mean that in a negative way, I'm seriously impressed. I can see why having nimble bike would be so important there. I'm in the United States and I'm looking at "downsizing" from my BMW G650GS to a Duke 390 hopefully this spring...great video, thanks!
Traffic there looks like a whole different level than I'm used to (in Utah, USA). Looks like cars regularly tried to pinch you against curbs. Thank you for the greatly detailed review. I'm considering this bike, and your review is the most useful so far.
its honestly frustrating coz the car drivers dunno how lanes work or their sideview mirrors and basic road ettiquette
Very nice video! I've seen a lot of reviews, a lot of comments about the failures, the cons, the bad things, that makes me rethink about getting this bike. BUT THEN COMES THIS VIDEO! And my heart beat hard again! And i"ll be buying this bike at the end of the year! Thanks and greetings from Mexico
Cheers mate - good luck with your purchase. It's a pretty sweet bike.
I love it when riders love duke 390 as soon as they get on it.
I own duke 390 2016 & by watching this video, you made me recall my 1st reaction when I rode mine.
You're unfuckingbelievable reviewer. 😜🤘
Ha ha - thanks man. Yeah - the 390 experience is pretty damn unique and you feel that adrenaline rush just course through your veins 😃
Bro I ride my father's bike which is 110cc so should I go for duke 390 because would I be able to Handel that much power please reply if u can I am confused🙏
This is what i was looking for, not just the bike feels good but the rider and the confidence along with the review/vlog ! Kudos !
Thanks man - glad you found the video useful
There was a lot of close calls over there brother😯😯
thats how most people ride in india lmao
To be honest,it was a first hand riding experience for the viewers too. This should be treated as the perfect example of a motor vehicle review unlike other videos where they detail things standing by its side. You are showing us the throttle response, how easy it is to cut the traffic like the maneuvering capability, how hard your ass hits when you go through bumps, engine heating, how efficient is the braking when a cow tries to stop you.To top it all you have a good accent I must say that is letting every viewer understand your intentions. You did a risky job explaining while driving and that too through that sick traffic and cow wandering streets.Bravo man...keep up the great work..This is the best review video I have seen after powerdrifts MV Augusta one.
Be safe and ride safe. All the best and off course I have subscribed
Thanks for such detailed and positive feedback. My intention is to give the viewers an immersive feel so that they feel like they're riding the bike themselves. And I love to test ride the bike in real city traffic because that's where most of us would be using the bike. That MV Augusta video was sick and being right below it is tall praise 😉
bro great english accent...love the way u explained 390...keep it up
Thanks buddy!
I miss this guy. He was a gem in my feed. Just hope he comes back.
Just 😎 I mean your videos are just 👏. Man you really have that quality to magnify the effective areas of the bike, and honestly ur English is just perfect. The way u illustrate and the way you teach little things about bike is also good. I have been to a lot of videos for Ktm but your videos kinda satisfy me all the time. Honestly it's like iam riding wid u in ur videos just twisting along wid around curves😂😂. Bro I am a delhite and I never owned a ktm ... it's just that I am confused 🤷♀️ which one to buy ....the duke 200 or duke 250. Can u plz suggest me which one to buy , currently I have a passion 🤣
Thanks man - loved the great feedback. You hit all of the points that I keep in mind when I'm making these videos. As for which KTM might be best suited to you - I'd say go with the Duke250 if this is your first bike. It's a really great offering from KTM, especially for those who have never owned a baby Duke before. Watch my Duke 250 video if you haven't already as it might help in making up your mind.
I have nothing to add as a compliment because most comments have said it all... It's amazing to see you reply to almost every comment, and I love the metal blaring on the intro and outro... Liked and subscribed and waiting for more awesome content! Cheers!!!
Thanks man - it's great to hear positive feedback like this. And one of the things that I love about RUclips so much is its interactive nature - so responding to comments is a given. Cheers!
Awesome Review & video! Can recognize all the Roads. Indiranagar, Kormangala & Ejipura :D
Let's just say you know your way around Bangalore 😉
Vipin Maben 😂😂
Running out superlatives is the most highest superlative that you could get to describe this machine!
great video , but what was going on with those gearshifts
So beautiful this bike! This model has color black? or just orange and white? Nice video!
You don't get an all black. Only an orange and black.
Man i totally agree when u said respect the bike. I bought a suzuki gixxer 750 and low sided then just traded it in for a gixxer 600 to learn before i go bigger lol
great review. nice camera position (i guess the chest mount) puts me in the riding position, like a FPS game, clear and articulate use of language, keep up the great work man.shows professionalism
That's the idea - to make the viewer feel like they are part of the ride. The only difference is the camera is mounted on the helmet not the chest.
will not say bad driving but u have a different style i suppose
True that :)
The Savant Life
yeshhhh actually yea
Yu wer bit uneasy shifting d gears😅😁
anyway cheers buddy 😅
bad driver
Bad driving??!!!! ..he's got great filtering skill ....what's bad about that
Yeah. He shifts a bit slower
Hey there!, I remember watching this video 5 years ago. Please start reviewing bikes again, your style of reviewing and talking is really great.
ONE quality review for sure!
Awesome dude - thanks and happy riding ✌
Nice video friend. Like other said your review is different in a good way. btw from which showroom did you test drive? and have they started deliveries?
nice and informative video about Duke 390 and also I liked your English.
Thanks bud - cheers!
The Savant Life yes your speech delivery matched the performance of the 390 ;)
hi savant life!
loved the video.I was actually thinking about upgrading my bike to a 400cc and I am a frequent tourer.yes, the duke 390 is my choice, but,I am a bit worried about the heating issues.
love to know your opinion.
If you are a frequent tourer, you might want to wait for the KTM Adventure 390 tourer edition that they are bringing to India in July or August. That bike would be perfect for you.
Great review! If I cut people off like that here in NY they would club me at the nearest red light, Nice driving!
nice video buddy .....wat ABT the heating??? did it getting too hot later on n fine how long were u riding the bike ?
I must have ridden it for about 15-20 minutes. The heating wasn't all that bad, it was quite manageable.
The Savant Life thanks bro I booked this bike delivery in 40 days ....the heating was all I was worried ABT .....
learn to shift a bit better
Ikr! I cringed so much.
Yes..It was very irritating
Yes, i was about to comment on it !! He shifts like a noob 😄
I don't give a shit about the accent (if it is fake or not), but your English is pretty good, and the video was awesome in 720p 60fps.
Great job man.
Good English.. good communication
OMG, your skill in bikes is literally over 9000!
who else loved the bike😍😍😍😍??
love the review! i so want to upgrade to this! your vlogs are much better than the rest! subscribed! waiting for more!
Sweet man - thanks!
I like the way you ride 😁👌
Your savage man ✌
Ha ha - that's what I'm talking about - cheers man 🤘
This is my 1st view on your channel n yeah subs was definitely done coz your vlog is different n truly no bullshit !! And I want to say you that I've booked a duke 250
Sweet man - good luck with the new machine 🤘
I NEED A BIKE FOR DAILY USE.. CONFUSED BETWEEN DUKE 390 AND RE CONTINENTAL GT .. PLEASE SUGGEST ( by budget is 2 - 2.5 lk ) ?
Ha ha - I had the same confusion too. Both are very different bikes, while the Duke390 is an incredibly modern bike, the Conti GT has those vintage looks. This is a tough choice and one that you'll have to make :)
I think the Duke 390 would offer a more comfortable riding position as it is slightly more upright whereas GT is a bit more stooped down which might get a bit uncomfortable.
ya same confusion for me but now I choose Duke 390
Dhiraj Kothari i have a gt ,for city use i think duke is better but 390 is not for city
CGT is not that uncomfortable as it look with rear set footpegs ,and on gt you get that classic feel with vinatge look just crusing around the sweet sound of engine.
Ktm is more of zipping through the traffic and going on highspeed runs
Dhiraj Kothari ur comparing 2 different genres just bcoz of the price.. Depends on how u ride and what u want.
I'm buying this as soon as I get paid. Which showroom did you ride this bike from? What kind of helmet would you recommend.....something that allows you to take advantage of the bluetooth phone pairing. I saw a biker with bluetooth on the helmet and don't know if that is legal/available in Bangalore.
It's a great bike. I wouldn't know about the legalities of the bluetooth pairing in the helmet. There are some LS2 helmets that offer you that option. Plus you also have to wonder about the viability of the screen and if someone is going to whack that if you park it outside.
Brother, Keep making this type of videos and soon you'll have a million subscribers. 😊 I had subscribed to your channel. And can you make a video on Royal Enfield classic 350 please?
Cheers man - hopefully someday it does come true 😃 - I haven't made any RE videos yet. That is definitely on the list - stay tuned.
Nice review bro, really liked the way how you mentioned abut the mirrors too. very few people give that much attention to smaller details. And also i noticed your gearshifts what was your purpose for shifting that way?
Thanks bud - like they say the devil is in the details. As for the gear shifts, that's how I was taught to ride back in the day 🤘
ok cool.
holly shit I would not want to drive there it looks like grand theft auto lol
Haha - it sort of is
Really good review. Keep posting more.
Have one question for you was a chest strap u used for the GoPro ???
Thanks and no I used a regular chin mount on my helmet.
Were you swaying the handle of the bike intentionally or was it bcoz of some external factors like uneven roads ??? Nice video & I like ur accent btw !!! ;) 👍👍👍
A little bit of both man - the roads are uneven for sure. And thanks 🤗✌
My age is 16 I'm a body builder...I live In a town where 5 Duke 200,1rc 390..and 3 rc 200.and 1 duke 390 is there...Should I go for it??
Loved the review..so well explained..
but completely hate your accent..and I don't know why!
Ha ha - you can't win them all
Hey, that's a great angle /view!
Where did you mounted the camera?
Chin mount
gonna sell my 2014 Duke 200 for this
That's a sweet upgrade
it's worth it
U r awesome.nd ur riding was superb i want to buy the baby beast Duke 390. And the_review impressed me nd tnq so much for this wonderful review. Now I'm also ur subscriber...👌🏻😍
shifts should've been better!
Superb video mate...
Can you tell me what gloves have you put on? 😎
Thanks bud - those are Scoycos
Wow. Liked ur video man. Love from Nepal.
Sweet - thanks man. Great to hear from people who are from different countries 👍😃
i believe sooner you're gonna get million subscribers buddy ;) amazing video its very natural and could feel your heart beats much faster than the bike:) please bring up with RE videos too. Good luck.
Thanks man - yes, need to do some RE videos too soon.
As someone who recently got into biking and subscribes to a lot of indian motovloggers, here are my opinions (please don't take them in the wrong way): fake accent or not, you definitely benefit from a better grasp of the english language than most which means your videos are easier to understand and your metaphors are as whacky as they come ;) the only thing that has always held me back from subscribing is your riding style; you grab the clutch way too much like nearly zero throttle modulation and when you shift you take so long the revs drop too low by the time you disengage the clutch and you're in the next gear. This makes it very difficult to take you seriously since at the end of the day this is a channel on bikes and it's not just that you have a different riding style or some nonsense like that it's just wrong. I am sorry if it sounds rude but if you look past the apparent tone trust me you will unlock a whole new level in terms of riding by just spending 2 weeks practicing the correct riding techniques. Cheers and goodluck!
Firstly - thank you for writing so sensibly - many people just rant and rave. So, here's my side on this - I was brought up at a time when you just couldn't do the quick shifting with bikes - you had to shift conservatively to preserve you clutch plates and to ensure the sanity of the bike. So it's a style that is conditioned in me - I can do the quick shifts if needed but I choose not to most of the time.
I think quick shifts are ideal for the race track or in countries with broad, wide roads where people follow lane discipline. In India, riding like that on an explosive bike (like a KTM) means if anyone shifts lanes, or a pedestrian jumps the divider to cross at the wrong moment or someone comes charging at you in the wrong way - you are a GONER.
There is a reason you see so many KTMs crash and burn in India - our roads and traffic etiquette isn't ideal for that style. Having said that, I can definitely shift a lot quicker, which I shall do especially when I'm making review videos.
Cheers!
The Savant Life bro forget clutch, you're also putting stress on the sprocket and chain by accelerating like that lol
The Savant Life I'm not so sure if that style actually "conserves" the clutch. By repeatedly disengaging and engaging the clutch, you're wearing out the throught bearing and spring. Also, this abrupt engagement and transfer of torque actually consumes the clutch a lot more than just being conservative with the throttle.
Those roads are insane! I'd be dead in 30 secs.
whats up with fake accent bro !!!? XD
That's how I speak regularly - watch some of the other videos, maybe you'll get used to it :P
The Savant Life You should get used to getting this shit the more your channel gains traction. Ignore. :)
Sweet videos mate. Keep em coming. Also, are you looking to change your trusty steed, the FZ?
oh shit cool cool
Ha ha - true that. I usually ignore but every once in a while I'll respond especially if I think it's someone half sensible who might understand. And yes - it's been a good ride with the FZ but it's time to look at other options now. The only problem is I don't have safe parking at the place I stay right now.
Dumbass spoted.
Travelled the same route for over 2 years. Never experienced so less traffic at Ejipura Signal. May be because you managed to overtake all the vehicles from EGL with the powerful Duke 390 :D You got a new subscriber!! Very informative video. Keep them coming. Good luck bro.
Fantastic, love looking around India on this bike.
Super - thanks man!
Thanks for the review I just bought on and waiting for pick up
Very satisfied with this video.
Great Video and your story telling is awesome, I was feeling the exuberance that you felt which was perfectly translated and captured into video. But one creative criticism ,for the indoor commentary that you did later, audio could have been better, invest in good microphone, that will up your audio game
Thanks man - I have a fairly minimalist setup and use the GoPro to record even indoors. Will probably upgrade to a more advanced setup in the future.
Man, I love watching your videos.
bro, great coverage. i could sense, you have got a more restrained way to put things.. compared to your earlier offerings. with more power comes, more sensibility??
Ha ha - that's good observation. With more power you get more trolls for sure, so you try to be a little more refined and subtle because like they say "Half of India doesn't get electricity or sarcasm" 😉
I loved the way you flick around and take it between small gaps, just the way I do. Can't wait for a test ride. And nice review :)
Ha ha - that's the part I love the most too 🙂
Great video man!! Really loved it. This is the one bike i ve been most awaiting. I am a short rider, and i know u mentioned the height factor but how much taller is it compared to the old 200 and would softening the suspension help? And is the myth abt being able to lower the bike by 1 inch and not affecting performance true?
Shorter riders might find it a little difficult unless they are really experienced with bikes. I haven't ever altered the suspension so I wouldn't really be able to comment on how much that would help or if it would affect the performance of the bike.
The thing you said about getting to know a bike no matter how experienced a rider you are is 101% true. I mean you just spoke what i feel about bikes.
good video quality. do you use a 4k camera?
I have a GoPro Hero 4 Silver, which can record 4K but I shoot in 1080P for RUclips
hey savant vedio awesome vedio !! it was just fab -- can u tell me is this a long time bike ? plse reply
Thanks. What do you mean by 'long time' bike? As in, is it good for the long term? It should be.
I’m 6foot 3inches should I go for this bike or will it look small for me
Need your opinions bro ;)
Great video brother...keep up the good work..thoroughly enjoyed watching it.
Awesome bro - thanks
Amazing video buddy. Loved the responsiveness of the bike, and the way you presented. Kudos big brother. BTW when will you be uploading the video on the amazing display of the bike? Eagerly waiting for it.
On a different note, this video was uploaded on the day of my birthday😛😍
Ha ha - thanks man. Happy Belated Birthday to you - will be uploading the video about the TFT display sometime by the end of this week - stay tuned 😉
Your accent is a melody to ears.
Keep it up bro.
Ha ha - thanks mate
by far: the best review seen to date.
narrator doesn't have the tipical indian accent. so easy to understand. thanks bud!
Cheers mate
The Savant Life in US$ what is the cost?
You'll have to google that mate
Just worried about the engine heating,! Would you recommend this bike for touring, considering the engine heating,?
1 is this good for daily use?
2 I'm 6'5 is this too small for me?
3 is this a good starter bike?
If your daily commute is less than 35 kms - yes
A lot of bikes are going to be small for you but this one should be ok as it has an elevated seat
You can start off with something smaller like a Duke200 or 250 but you can go with this too, especially if you like it
nice review ..how's the pillion seat comfort? hope you do a review on that ..
Not sure about that one - maybe once I get a pillion, I'll let you know ;)
The Savant Life thanks for the reply man....I am waiting for you to do the pillion review 😊
i got my duke 390 two days back its just amazing, no second thought to buy it, just go ahead
Agreed - it's an incredible bike
Thats a one of a kind review... Hats off & Keep it coming!!!
Cheers man - plenty more on the way 🤘
Hello can u pls tell me whether to buy duke 390 or rc 390. I am just going to be 19 this March
Congratulations on 100k views bro... keep up the good work... 👍
Thanks mate ✌
How do u compare it to riding in traffic.. The old one was difficult to ride on higher gears and jerky too.. Ur views on this one?
This one is actually quite smooth - in fact a little too smooth. But riding for long hours in city traffic might still be a challenge.
would you recommend this bike for a beginner ? or is the duke 250 a better option ?
For a beginner, I think the Duke 250 is a much better option.
The Savant Life thank you
what do you think when comparing new Ktm duke 200 and Yamaha Fz 25?
becoz u ride fz16 but a fan of ktm..
I am a fan of good bikes but have a soft spot for Yamaha. Will make a detailed comparison video of the bikes you just mentioned.
A detailed review of a bike...very much clear...just a one question...can KTM duke 390 be a good tourer?
Rohan Jadhav sure why not.
great delivery man..you deserve more subs
Thanks mate - hopefully will get there :)
What about the heating issue bro?
Is pickup high when compared with the duke 250??
Heating issue is quite manageable - shouldn't be a deal breaker. And of course the pick up is much better than the Duke250.
How bad is Duke 250's braking dude? I have booked it and will be getting it in a few days. In short test drive I did not find it so bad. Let me know.
Let's just say, the braking on the D250 isn't ideal. Watch my full ride and review video to know more ruclips.net/video/v21RE28zegY/видео.html
Thanks. Watched that video and subscribed to your channel :-).
Good video and review. I'm amazed at the traffic situation there. It would take me some time to get comfortable with handling a bike through those streets.
Thanks Jay - yeah it is quite an experience for those who are not accustomed to it. Believe it or not, the area you saw in the video has the least chaotic traffic in the city.
the review is great and they way you felt the bike and expressed it in words was too good
Thanks mate - appreciate the support 👍
the best review of the sexiest bike there is..... keep it up Bro... awesome videos
Thanks mate ✌
Iam gonna buy my first bike. Will duke 390 will be a right choice?
Sure - if you are comfortable handling that kind of power, go for it.
how is the Duke 390/250 vibration comparison to Yamaha 250 or cbr250?? does the gear shifting is as smooth as Yamaha and Honda?
The vibration is minimal and the gear shifting is super smooth.
great video.. one of the best .. Thanks
Thanks mate ✌
You are awesome buddy, i really mean it.. your english language fluency is just tremendous. It felt as i'am watching some international motovlogger.. All the best buddy : )
Thanks a lot bud - great to receive comments like these :)
I am really confused between dominar and duke 390.which should i buy??I am a beginner
Can you plz tell me which ktm bike is value for money bike? I’m so confused between rc 200 and duke 250!! Which bike is better ? I have a budget for 250 but I’m also confused about the rc 200 !! Can uh plz make a comparison video on this bikes?
I have seen many video and i can assure you that your video is right at the top with select few. I still want to ask you that does the bike has vibes and do you feel the vibes at the handle bar. Is it refind enough.
Thanks a bunch man - as for the refinement, a KTM won't really be as refined as a Yamaha or a Honda but that is what makes it so much fun to ride. I didn't find the vibrations on the handlebar to be significant but also I rode the bike only for about 20 minutes.
The audio sounds clear..what do you use to record your audio ??? and which camera ?? hero 4 ??
Go Pro Hero 4 Silver with an external Drift Mic connected to a GoPro adapter.
What would you suggest, a 250 ktm 2017 or 390 ktm 2017? I am a city dweller and less of a tourer kind, though I do decent rides to outskirts once or twice in a month.
Thanks !
The Duke390 is a ridiculously good bike - if you've got the budget go for it.
