Hey this Rahul and how is it going everyone, over the last weekend I covered over 300 km on the 2017 KTM Duke 390, we rode it in city, highway and also did some cornering tests pushing the bike as much as I could, when it comes to the KTM Duke 390, I speak with experience.
I know it's making that same 43.5 BHP of power with an increased torque of 37 NM @7000 RPM, which is just a shade higher than the 35 Nm of the previous version. But all that fairing, and body work along with the new Euro 4 compliant side slung exhaust has made the motorcycle gain 10 extra kg of weight and that should affect the performance.
But that is just theoretical. In reality, the motorcycle doesn't feel any less powerful, in fact because of the new throttle by wire with very little throttle angle, the bike delivers a power which is instantaneous and feels to have a stronger punch in the low and midrange over the previous version.
I also feel they have changed the engine mapping to give the motorcycle a bit more grunt in lower revs and the engine seems to have a different power delivery than the RC390 which I also tested earlier. The power on the RC came on smoother but the Duke 390 still gives that Hooligan feel in the first gear acceleration but they have managed to tame the initial jerk a bit. Simply put, this is more fun.

Hey there Rahul ...I am really confused between 390 and dominar ...it's not like I travel every now and then but I do make a long trip once in a year...which bike would you recommend!? Is Ktm manageable for touring?

shots fired! you should have mentioned HMSI and sent them this video. They are content with activa sales by the looks of it, but I can't complain about the engine again,a ktm 390 owner was praising my bike saying it doesn't feel like 32000km run bike and he owns a service center, I took his 390 and had a blast in the meanwhile :p
when I said that I didn't have any particular brand in mind, in India most brands are following that same strategy.
Ride With Rahul yes but I am saying honda should make it known to them, not everyone are happy with their quarter litre line up, 250rr,300r,500r all these are not hitting the market. Yamaha have the r3 but with 0 marketing, suzuki don't have a bike as they just rentered the market,honda has had the 250r for 6 years without even a legit update. I left out hero as you can't expect anything other than new splendor models lol

I dont know why you dragged the video for so long when you could have done it in 8-9 minutes. I started watching and got bored by the time it reached its end. I guess you should focus on more content in less time. A suggestion thats all. No offence
Since I wasn't chatting up and going into vlog mode and constantly giving more and more facts about the bike, I honestly don't think I could have done it in 8-9 mins. I cut out a lot of other things, like the 17 changes list and made it what I could, making longer reviews better for me as people get the answer and ask less questions in comments. After this they won't have many questions.

it depends on which perspective your watching this video..I am genuinely interested in buying the bike so I need all the info possible and he has given that beautifully..if ur watching just for fun or to get some general info about the bike the video can be boring..But then again he titled the video "Ultimate buying Guide" so it's kinda clear about the kind of Audience he was targeting...

Raghav Rathore Since you are a beginer I suggest you go for the duke 250 and not the 390 series of bikes. Take gradual stepping stones. Trust me the 390 is a dangerous bike in a beginer's hands.

just noticed the new Duke 390 looked like a super moto especially the riding position..
It is more a of street bike now, I feel the older one which I own was even more upright and #supermoto like but the seat height was lower so it didn't appear as tall.

Suggest me to decide if i should go for D400 or Duke 390.. Me as a rider i do travel a lot,be it be a city ride and long distances, nd found D400 more of a travel purpose bike and the 1 u reviewed is always throttle thirsty. presently am owning Ns200 n Avenger to meet both deal on roads... (NS on city n the later for cruising long miles).. willing to upgrade n go for 1 rather keeping 2 to meet both my riding passions burn..

Rahul, have you come across or seen or sat on any seats that can be purchased to replace the seat on these Dukes? Just bought my 2019 Duke 390 and the seat is hard as a rock on Chamundi Hill!

I saw your Dominar review and this one too. Which bike would be better suited to touring and why?
+Leslie Pinto currently this edges out the Dominar slightly, first of all this is lighter and handles better, with the chassis giving better stability along with the better tyres.
The TFT console, I see that as a bonus while touring as you don't have worry about missing important calls from family (small advantage but I like it)
In touring on mountain or Twisties this will have better advantage as the bike feels more powerful.
The only thing is the Dominar gives you a power cruiser like feel, whereas this is a well designed naked bike with extreme power delivery.
Some people like the extra power and the hurried nature of the bike.
Others prefer the calmer nature of the Dominar.
The TFT display with Bluetooth is redundant with most of us using Bluetooth headsets. But posture wise, seat comfort, vibrations, fatigue etc which bike would be better for say 6 to 8 hours in the saddle? Yes the power delivery of the 390 is a given.
+Leslie Pinto it's not redudant, it's made for people who are using Bluetooth headsets, as modern phones can pair 5 devices at once. You can see who is calling you, then accept or reject the call, I think it's a really great feature and I myself spent more than 8 hours on the saddle with a 2 hour lunch break in the middle and I was really comfortable and a lot more than my bike the previous Duke.
You need fuel to survive a tour as well as money. Buy a dominar and forget the poor 25kmpl milaege , get 32-35 kmpl and enjoy

Don't think the Duke 390 will get any major upgrades next year, you can safely get this year's version.

Lots of tall people ride KTM in Europe as you know it sells a lot of units there. I think the new Duke 390 is suitable for taller riders but you should take a test drive before buying.

Hey your videos have been very helpful for me.. but I'm stuck up in a decision where I'm planning to buy a new bike... I have rc 390 and duke 390 on my mind.. I travel daily for 40kms and do some 100-200 kms long drive once a month.. which bike would be suitable for my usage ?
I would recommend the Duke 390 as the more relaxed riding position will definitely help you feel less tired.

A wise word here and I quote (A man can never get satisfied with a bike, car, mobile or girl etc etc all these are subjective to once mindset) There is really no need to hurt, harm or abuse someone. Buy what suits you and keep calm..

I would use my bike to go to the college(it would be almost 25kms + heavy traffic) everyday and long rides(100km+) maybe twice a month!

Duke 250 is better in heavy traffic and also the mileage will be a little bit better. Wish it had ABS though, compromise on safety is always what I don't recommend.

Ride With Rahul your RC390 review was put together better, in my view. not in any way saying this bad or something.
This one I lost the live audio, did a redub and edited back again in post production, lost the flow in which I wanted to work. But I think the problem was that in the middle the part where I was doing first person view, that place could have some other angles and insert shots, where I took a little shortcut to make the video release faster.

on the Bike shown at the 2:25 mark I don't see how those mirrors work for you at all since they are pretty much straight up in the air and not curved outward at all.

It was a brand new bike then and that covering which came from the dealership, we don't have the MT03 here but we do have R3, I find this bike to have much more aggressive nature, with more power and better handling the R3 on the other hand feels much more calm and refined on the highway as a sports tourer.
That is what I thought, This new KTM 390 will be launched here in my country next month, it looks awesome and a few years ahead in terms of features, but I was almost in a closed deal with a MT03 night fluo, now I do not know what I do... I want a bike for day to day ride with some highway commuting too, and I already own a Yamaha FZ 6 and a Honda XR 250. Have seen your videos, you seem to be quite an experienced rider, what is your final opinion about your bike?
KTM having more tech now is also going to make the parts more expensive, but I recently rode the 2018 models and even the smallest of issues have been weeded out, being a single it will never be as close to an R3 on refinement but what it loses there it more than makes up for in other departments. Now it's more upto the type of rider you are, cool, clam and comfortable long highway tours on the MT03, performance, flickability, great dynamics, aggressive riding posture (compared to other one) a bike that tries to do track day in the morning and a tour in the evening? DUKE 390

But I also have to take into consideration that the presence of KTM here in my country is still pretty recent, the brand even does not have an oficial internet site here in Brazil. I really feel that the time will come for me to get this motorcycle, if not for this year, probably not later than 2019.

Brijbhan Singh it's the same engine. If you want sporty seating then go for rc
RC has better aerodynamics and stable at highways as it fully faired and as Duke its naked and street fighter easy and best to cruising on long ride as compare to sportier look of RC

How is the highspeed stability ? I mean at 140-160 km/hr ? I ask this question as the wheelbase got reduced.
Its better than the previous version as the front end much heavier now.
