Nintendo isn't sueing for copyright their sueing for patent infringement.
Regarding Sly Cooper, my answer to your question there is yes, I absolutely want a new Sly game regardless of whether it's made by the original devs. Partly because 4 ended on a cliffhanger, partly because 3D platformers like this are a dying genre I want to see revived, but also because I don't agree that not being made by the original devs means it'll be inherently lesser. I feel that Sly 4 was one of the best in the series, on par with Sly 2. Even if they couldn't get the Sly 4 devs back, I'd still take a shot at getting a satisfying new game over leaving things where they're at now, given the chance.
Andrew made a lot of solid point in my opinion on most of the subjects today a lot of what he said made sense to me
Great discussion from you two! I have question tho: regarding the criteria of gen z created content: are we counting the content created when we were kids/ being born or the content when we are teens/young adults?
My big feeling is that FF's sales after 6 have been maybe less representative of the size of its core audience and more a show of how much a graphical edge back in the day mattered. FF6 hit a lifetime sales on its original console platforms (SNES and PS1) of 3.5 million units, the highest for a 2D FF game.
FF7 cleared that to 10 million on the PS1 and 1 million on its original non-Steam PC release. That's a HUGE jump and it continued with FF8 hitting 8.6 million on PS1. Even FF9's original release on PS1 hit higher than FF6, releasing to 5.5 million LTD sales.
FF10 with 8.5 million units on PS2.
But let's look at something like FFXII, which was maybe a bit less impressive as a graphical showcase (and also had some dev trouble). 6.1 million units sold on PS2. FFXIII sold 7 million between PS3 and 360 back in the day. So sales start to dip as other series start to catch up and learn the lessons of how FF was able to wow with graphics.
I think the basic issue is FF's sales, from 7 and beyond, weren't driven by some crazy gameplay hook or genre interest but by visual spectacle that came from investing heavily in graphical advancements. But then everyone stood on their shoulders and reach and exceeded those heights soon after
People love final fantasy because of the characters and the stories they tell 20 plus years later people still love these characters
11:29 absolutely nailed it Simmons
Another reason is square take way to long to actually release there games
As their Finance document thing said, their entire 3D game division wasn't as profitable as they expected. That means all of the games they released contributed to that loss, but it sounds more dramatic to write the headlines as FF16 and Rebirth not being profitable. It's probably true, but I don't think there's any world in which FF16 and Rebirth could make back their dev costs and make up for the losses made by games like Foamstars. And I don't think they'll ever tell us how either of them actually sold.
The PS5 only releases of both 16 and Rebirth definitely hurt the global sales, though I would argue that only releasing on PS5 may have given us a better game as they didn't have to worry about whether the game would be optimised for anything other than the PS5. They would definitely sell more if they released on both console and PC simultaneously, and I do honestly believe that could be reality going forward. Sony would have to offer a pretty penny to make that sales deficit worth it.

yaoi and yuri aren't specific to hentai!!
if it was just want a simple remake, maybe I'll try it out, but its a multiverse what if story, no thank you
Yeah, once I realized that, I suddenly lost a lot of interest
I'm glad it's not a straight remake that took a risk I can respect that
Nintendo Snap is a cool name. Get T Pain to remix "Snap ur game on"

@47:45 would be crazy if the Nintendo Switch 2 gets a remake of the og Final Fantasy 1.
