    instead of cutting off the extra tape end, turn it under and stick it to the table. the bezels won't move around as much. these are beautiful! another tip- cap the UV resin and put it upside down in a dixie cup and you'll have fewer bubbles.

    Awesome steam punk bezels, Claire! Beautiful! ❤😊👍 This type of project was one of my first resin projects, ever. I felt so successful. 😁💕 I've made tiny seascapes in some, with sand and tiny shells. Making white waves is a b*tch, though. I still can't get lacing to save my life!
    TIPS:
    1) To keep the tape from buckling so much, it can help to give that first layer 2 (or even 3) 30-second blasts and cool off (absolute MUST) *between* each 30-second interval. THEN, switch to 60 seconds, cool off; and then 60-90 seconds if it needs more hardening. Just depends on how deep it is and if there's coloring in it.
    Part of UV resin's character is to heat super quickly, and it can even warp cheap molds. I've learned (the really hard way) to slow cure that first layer!
    2) Doming the back enhances the magnification, even at the front. You wouldn't think it would, but it does.
    3) If you want to use epoxy resin, it WILL seep through even with the tape. SO...use a tiny brush and just put a line of UV resin around the inside edge and cure it first.
    4) The deeper bezels can actually hold enough resin to make an adorable mini bloom! Just need to make sure the resin has reached 32-35°C before pouring. The white will need to be somewhat translucent so it won't sink and make blobs.

    Cute project! I have a tip for you that will prevent those bubbles from pouring out when you use UV resin. If you store your UV resin bottle upside down while you're working with it, then tap it several times it helps the bubbles to rise away from the nozzle. I keep mine nozzle side down in an old coffee mug with a paper towel folded at the bottom. Always tap it onto a clean paper towel and don't even flip it right side up to take off the cap. That'll keep most, if not all of those bubbles out of the way.
    And just a tip for the environment- be sure to cure both paper towels if you have any wet resin left when you're done with your project for the day. You might even have enough clean area to continue using that same paper towel again. Cure them even if you're just throwing the paper towels away.

    Yes it is normal for the green tape to pucker up like that, due to the heat of the resin when curing.
    Another great video Claire. I do luv a good old steampunk style myself.

  • @kittenmin3993
    @kittenmin3993 Год назад

    yes its normal for the tape to sometimes fold a bit because the uv resin does heat up a bit when curing. as long as you have a good base layer and bezel is firm to the tape everything will work out fine. you should also try paper backgrounds behind those cogs or even bits left over from a paint pour. just make sure to have your base layer cured as you did here and your are going to love it.
    Those came out amazing.

I hate UV resin with a passion, bad experience using it when first starting out in the resin world, the lamps that come with the kits never cure it without leaving a gross sticky residue (I've learned a stronger UV lamp is required). Been using epoxy resin since, will try this using fast cure epoxy resin for sure

    Uv resin shrinks as it cures, thus the wrinkling of the tape. As you found out, nothing to worry about. I agree with Apple Neil. The sticky squares work great. One other suggestion for the future would be to also dome the back, as this way you'll have a double sided beauty. And they are beauties! @@LostSiren13 True. I have considered making them from sterling silver, which I use to make jewellery all the time. Making handmade bezels from scratch would require me asking for a way higher price than what I ask for a bezel like these, though, and I'd need to be sure the resin part is durable enough to stand the test of time - as I don't like selling silver jewellery which only lasts for a year or less. I should probably make some test pieces with silver and wear them for a few months to see how they hold up.
