As an Aussie, I've watched their growth since 2011, when I first heard Dispossession. I have since grown to love everything they have done. This new sound just so happens to align with my matured taste in music these days - a taste for less technical and complicated stuff, and an appreciation for melody, musicality, and simplicity when simplicity is needed (knowing full-well that a band of this calibre and level of experience could absolutely mathematically break your musical bone if they wanted to, but choose not to). I personally love this song, because Obsidian was fucking amazing. For those who aren't sold yet on this song, I have full faith that this song will grow on you once heard within the context of a new and full album.
Yeah, as I said, it’s a gorgeous song. I expect it will grow on me more. I don’t need the heaviness of their past, but I adored some Obsidian songs which weren’t heavy a bit more than this particular one landed. Will see how it grows.
Great song! On first listen I thought it was a bit odd, but not bad, just different. After hearing it a few more times, I'm so amazed with the soundscape that they're creating, and the vocals were simply beautiful. Also, the chord progression the second verse might be one of the best and happiest surprises I've had this year, from a music listener's point of view. This band always gets me in the same place emotionally and mentally... such few bands do that to me... to this extent at least. I really get what you're saying, it's really odd on first listen :))
Really like this latest new single from them. Sets up pretty great for big things to come for their next masterpiece. The song's radio friendly actually. Can go on BBC radio easily. Nice one! Great stuff!
Loved the reaction man! I gotta say, back in Obsidian I've seen MetalBirbs and DrewFortune's reaction to the album. And it clicked that I should listen to their songs a an EDM track written by a metal band. That changed my perspective of the songs.
Still riding the Dante earworm months on, fucking love this song. Any additional thoughts now that it’s been out a while? Absolutely my favourite of the three current singles. The hooks over the northlane “EDMetal” are bar none
Agreed. Enjoyable, easy to keep listening to, and with a lot of subtleties, but I want that extra punch that I know they can deliver. Obviously not what they wanted, though! Also getting 'Traveller' vibes from this group ;)
I feel like this was a bit “safe” for them, but by no means a bad track. It’s still 100% Northlane and I’m into it. I immediately thought of this track from the late 90’s.. maybe 97 or 98… that The Crystal Method did with Filter. It had this same alt/industrial/metal/trip-hop thing going on. There was a little bit of that type of experimentation going on back then but I don’t think it ever really took off. Maybe Northlane is on to something here. I think it was more of a curiosity then, but they’re really leaning towards making this their sound going forward. Curious to see what else they’re going to do with the new record. Color me intrigued.
@@SteveOGRock agreed. I'm getting the impression this is the safe radio-friendly single. I have high hopes they'll lean into the experimental side of things and vary it up for this record. This could be a great contrast against something with more teeth and vonal variety.
The lyrics in the chorus really captivate me in a different way than Northlane has done ever before

Perfectly said! 😊

Yeah 100% a grower of a song.

This song blew me away

Fair, I can see how that way round would be a more exciting prospect perspective-wise.

It's produced by Will Putney. The absolute master.
Really nice song! It felt like a really safe song without any huge climaxes or edginess to make you go wow.
Solid though 👏
My favorite band 😍🤘🏼🔥

I'm sure we'll get some heavy eventually from an upcoming single

Yeah I do like it. It’s objectively good. But my taste needs slightly more variation within a song potentially.

exactly a bit punch in the drums is missing...but great song!
