Absolutely love Wagakki Band. About them:
    - Shows and Music Videos are always extravagant, including the costumes.
    - Very talented musicians, all 8 of them.
    - Beni Ninagawa was the one playing the Shamisen (Japanese traditional guitar you saw in Megitsune).
    - Wasabi (drums) and Kurona (wadaiko) are the percussionists, while Wasabi did more of time keeping, Kurona plays more like a "scream" part of Yui and Moa in Babymetal (minus the dancing).
    - Yuko Suzuhana sings with shigin style (Japanese poetry chanting).
    - They were suppose to perform for the postponed 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
    - Yuko Suzuhana collaborated with Kami Band's drummer Hideki Aoyama and guitarist Leda Cygnus in 2016 for the song CRADDLE OF ETERNITY.
    - Their most famous song is arguably SENBONZAKURA.
    - Active since 2012, they've got a lot of songs in 6 albums. Many excellent tracks. Why not checking out SABAKU NO KOMORIUTA next ruclips.net/video/BwERDZTkT1k/видео.html .
    Thank you...

Wagakki Band is one of the best Japanese groups out there. They combine traditional Japanese instruments and vocal styles with modern rock, metal, jazz, and more. All eight members are master level musicians, and their lead singer, the very elegant Yuko Suzuhana, may be the best female Japanese vocalist I have heard. Wagakki Band is the only other Japanese group that comes anywhere close to BabyMetal in international popularity. The video for their song Senbonzakura has more views than Gimme Chocolate. Wagakki Band is even better live, as their stage shows are musical extravaganzas that rival the very best BabyMetal concerts.

Thanks Tyler, saw notification this morning but had to wait till afternoon😃 I love that you liked it and you had an astonished face here and there. For Bandmembers and general Information just read @Harden Crater and @Rudy Harfandi comments. They did a great job.👍
'Wagakki Band' is a Super-Band. All are master of their craft and they have more talents (like other instruments, teaching, ...) 5 of the members leading their own band/projects in which 4 do also vocals in those. Also Yuko Suzuhana teaches the Shigin singing (recite japanese poems). She won a national championship some years ago.
Tyler you told us you had Military History ->😉Funfact: The singer also does sword dance and back in the day Samurai had to learn those shigin (poem) It was part of their education.

Every member of WagakkiBand is a master-level pro at their instruments. The two drum sets are Wasabi on "normal" drums (well named for his spicy playing!) and Kurona on the traditional taiko (wadaiko) drums. The wadaiko provides extra oomph and off-beat sounds that aren't possible with just one drummer or a normal band drumset. There are whole competitions in Japan built around the traditional drumming techniques on all different sizes, including ones that are about three times as tall as you! Fun fact: Beni's showy tsugaru shamisen can only be played on the downstroke with her weighted plectrum (large fanlike pick) and the silk strings change pitch rapidly with changes in humidity, and it has no frets, so she has to play everything by ear and muscle memory! The costumes are themed around a colour scheme or style, but always personalized. Machiya on guitar rarely wears shoes, for example, and wears his traditional Noh mask for the songs he wrote before he was with WagakkiBand like Homura. Wasabi's not a fan of constrictive clothing because of his constant arm movements. Kaminaga Daisuke on the shakuhachi flute likes looking like a monk, with his bald head, so he prefers to wear more traditional robes. Suzuhana Yuko, the vocalist is a licensed Shigin (poetic recitation) performer and teacher, and can do sword and fan dances. She's almost always dressed like an anime princess in some way. It's a great look for her! As for the flat harp thing, that's a koto (long vowels, "koe-toe"). The lyrics are as follows:
Hana hirakeba chou eda ni mitsu | Flower bloom filling the butterfly branches
Warera utau sora no kanata he | To the sky that we sing
Haruka nagaru kumo no mukou he | Beyond the faraway clouds
Umi wo koete niji wo watatte | Cross the sea and cross the rainbow
Kimi ni todoku you ni | Like to reach you
Seki wo kitte afureru omoi | Thought to overflow the weir [a low type of dam meant to raise a river or catch fish]
Itsuka sameru yume no ibashou de | In the whereabouts of a dream, that will someday
Warai atte irareru you ni | Just like being laughing [as in the state of being that you feel when you're laughing]
Kasane tsumuide yuku | I am going to spin it
    ((Repeat from "Warera utau"))
At the end, the crowd is screaming for their favorite member: "Asa-san" for Asa on the bass, "Beni" for the shamisen player, etc.
Also! Check out Synchronicity by WagakkiBand for a crazy change of pace!

    Great reaction...
Their costume is just stylize/modernize traditional clothing.
There are 8 members for this group... 2 Women and 6 Men... 1 singer, 3 modern instrument and 4 traditional instrument...
    Yuko Suzuhana: singer
    Beni Ninagawa: shamisen (traditional guitar)
    Daisuke: shakuhachi (traditional flute)
    Kurona: taiko (traditional drum)
    Kiyoshi: koto (table with snare...😆...)
    Machiya: guitar
    Asa: bass
    Wasabi: drum
Their live concert always entertaining, filled with sword dancing (singer good at it), shigin (traditional poetry, which the singer is very good at it too) and some other traditional performance.

The name Wagakkiband translates literally as ‘traditional instrument band.’ This pair of songs serves as a great introduction to the musicians and their instruments. ‘Homura’ always make me think of guitar-heavy instrumentals by Joe Satriani or Yngwie Malmsteen. ‘Akatsuki no Ito’ flips the whole mood with the koto and shakuhachi, but the world simply STOPS when Yuko starts singing. She is classically trained in Shigen, a Japanese form of chanted poetry, and is a national champion in the form. For older songs of theirs, look for ‘Tengaku’ or ‘Senbonzakura.’ Both are covers of songs performed by vocaloids; computer-generated vocalists, newer entries to check out are “Bring me to Life” and ‘Sakura Rising’ both featuring Amy Lee of Evanessence. Be careful, though, Wagakkiband is a rabbit hole you might never wish to leave.

  • @MrQwetz

Since you already covered both songs, here`s a little fun fact - the little funky guitar solo in Homura right after Asa ends his bass solo and before Beni joins on shamisen is the intro to Yoshiwara Lament.

I may be late with this comment. But Wagakki Band has been and always be my go-to band to listen if I'm craving for good music.
The genius behind these guys is just amazing, imagine having to blend everything to the point where each instruments are not overwhelmed by the other.
Additionally, if you have noticed it - Kuronawho is playing Wadaiko drums (Traditional drums), is playing the off beat when they played Akatsuki no Ito while Wasabi (drums) is just casually playing like the off beat played by Kurona is part of his routines.

Beni Ninagawa, nickname Benina, plays the Tsugaru Shamisen, Ibukuro Kiyoshi play the Koto, which is that kind of harp, while Daisuke Kaminaga plays the Shakuhachi, which would be the flute, the Shakuhachi is played by the Komuso monks of Zen Buddhism. If I can recommend your next reaction on this group it is in the link: ruclips.net/video/Cs5SzT61nqo/видео.html. @@AlphaTylerContent Ok, so you have some experience on extraordinary Japanese people however the band Wagakki, along with a few other bands, are only a small part of what Japan can offer in terms of music, there are bands in Japan they never come to us and they make amazing music, if I can recommend an example, listen to "FERN PLANET" once called "RICK RACK", the band has now split up, but the music they made was amazing here is a example: ruclips.net/video/EnZuLUHEpFs/видео.html. Serina is an extraordinary singer and how she plays the guitar, very good and the lyrics of the song are beautiful!

Haha I see you’re not hiding the RAS-47 anymore ;) be careful with those Magpul 40 round mags, they’ve been known to jam ;)
Great reaction though! I love this band so much and is one of my favorites. The group dresses in tradition clothing but with modern twists and that’s just part of the bands normal attire when performing. The guitarist/backing vocals doesn’t always wear that mask, though. Another fun fact “Wagakki” means “traditional Japanese instruments” combine that with “band” and you have the marriage between traditional and modern, like you noticed.
Anything else you watch is 100% worth it; however there are some acoustic versions of their songs that they do live where the guitarist sings and it’s just immaculate.

6:30 That is a shamisen(shah-mee-sehn). Beni plays the tsugaru type which has a faster, aggressive, & more powerful playing style than other shamisen. They originated from the Tsugaru area. They are three stringed. The mask the guitarist is wearing is a noh mask. These are used in Noh Theatre unlike Kabuki that uses makeup.
Flute is a shakuhachi(shah-koo-hah-chee). 12:03 The harp/zither you're asking about is a koto(koh-toe). Traditional drums are wadaiko/taiko(wah-dye-koh & tie-koh). 14:08 Suzuhana Yuko's performing shigin(reciting traditional Japanese & Chinese poetry). It's usually spiritual & full of gratitude or reverence towards nature. The lyrics of this song was inspired by traditional poetry. Yuko is a national shigin champion too. Both shigin & enka use this singing style.
Traditionally, enka is often called "Japanese blues ballads" since blues & enka subject matter is often melancholic. Both use melismatic(kobushi) singing("vibrato" isn't accurate, but is the closest word. R&B is probably the most familiar example of melismatic singing). Both started around the same time too; mid 1800s in the US by finally freed African Americans & Japan(Meji era). Originally, enka music also used a bluesy pentatonic scale. This is what she sang:
Flower bloom filling the butterfly branches
To the sky that we sing
    Beyond the faraway clouds
Cross the sea and cross the rainbow
    Like to reach you
    Thought to overflow the weir
In the whereabouts of a dream, that will someday
    Just like being laughing
I am going to spin it
To the sky that we sing
    Beyond the faraway clouds
Cross the sea and cross the rainbow
    Like to reach you
    Thought to overflow the weir
In the whereabouts of a dream, that will someday
    Just like being laughing
I am going to spin it

She's also infamous for treating her fans like shit, but that's a whole other story.

There are not two drummers, there is a drummer and there is a percussionist, in the case of the percussionist he uses instruments from his own culture, some of them used as a "war march" in the ancient Japanese dynastie

As a percussionist myself, I can tell you that it isn't as offensive as it may seem to call him a drummer ;)

@@AlphaTylerContent: And it's not offensive, just that musically they are two different things, change the two of places for you to see the difference it gives;)

Not gonna see another Japanese rock performance more impressive than this. There are other Jrock performances that are impressive, just not like this.
