BMW Brabham BT52 Formula One 1983 -- Dyno Run with glowing headers

I love how the most powerful engine ever put in an f1 car is a little turbo 4 banger
What is more it was a standard road car block. Usually aged in the rain for a year, preferably having done 50000 miles in a road car. This was done to weed out imperfection in the block, as they would have caused a failure by then.
Poor Renault with their purpose built turbo race engine, getting beaten by a pumped up road car engine.
@@alexwright6038Thankyou for that information. Amazing how aging processes make things stronger.
Turbo 4 bang the world
4 cylinder sound better than modern V6 hybrid 🙃
Boa noite meu Amigo !!!!
Abraço do Brasil.......
Cyl # 4 looks a bit rich. I spoke to Piquet about driving this. He said “tach is useless. When head snap forward due to rev-limiter, you grab another gear. You shift gears almost as fast as you can ‘row through the gearbox.’”
The Best Looking F1 Car Ever !!! ! !!! :-)
Amazing sound !!!
xD
I'd be happy if modern F1 went back to these types of race cars i.e. =
Weight of car = 1,190 pounds or 539 kilos.
Rear tire size = 420mm or 18 inches wide.
Engine = 1.5 liter inline 4 cylinder turbo.
I'd keep the advanced sequential gearbox in carbon fiber case.
Since the engine would be more simple and less costly to make I'd let teams spend more money on more advanced aero package...
Lower to the ground, lowered height.
Ground effects for the under tray.
Active suspension.
f1 sucks
The problem with ground effect is that the G forces are too high even for F1 drivers.
Niki Lauda said that after he raced the Brabham Fan car, he said the car felt like it was on rails, but he was clearly physically exhausted.
@@S85B50Engine the G forces were much lower back then compared to today. Drivers just weren't used to it back then.
The manufacturers would never agree. Plus, F1 has always been the racing business that brought us all these new technologies, I can't see that changing.
@@kirisaki.777 I think you're arguing about their motive for bringing the latest tech. Same result.
Would be nice to see Nelson Piquet drive this car once again.
What a great engine and based on the M10.
And I was proud of my 136cid engine for making 120hp...
lindo demais som incrivel .............
Beautifull garden at the end
Paul Rosches Meisterwerk❤
That engine was as insane.
#4 cylinder
yeah, alpina-prüfstand
Nelson Piquet had to tame that little monster race after race in 83. Incredible power.
I think I know this place at the end of the video... Is it aorund the Industrie- und Gewerbegebiet Pferdsfeld, in Bad Sobernheim?
😂😂
Has this Engine a Cross Plane Cranke?
ALL HAIL MEGATRON!!!
Why does the exhaust glow purple and not red?
titanium glows purple when around 1300-1500 degrees.
Kristo Nuut titanium doesnt glow purple, it does go purple after use but those wouldnt be titanium headers. The purple glow is from a crap infrared filter on the camera
Jack Torrance
infrared filter.....are you on drugs?
they are inconel. titanium is way too volatile
The only thing I know is that Ti alloys would disintegrate at those temperatures
Tolles Video!
Link bitte! Danke!
1000 Hp
Just the sound could make you addict to it, when they put the maximum bar at 2.5, and then simply banned the turbos i stop watching it. They already made mess when impose the fuel limit, so others with more experience win almost all the races ( McLaren Porsche) the Brabham BMW was the team who put some fight.
What turbo did they use??
A KKK turbo bigger than my future
Did the Vtec ever kick in…yo
so where was the dyno run? Just the engine sitiing at 5k the whole time? Thats a bit dissapointing
So, what was the horsepower? That's why we came to watch.
Estimated 1400 peak
BMW dyno maxed out at like 1280 so no one really knows for sure
This is what you get when having a blank cheque -
I like the glow of exhaust pipes.
Helps when BP or Shell is paying for it.
7500 rpm
Beetle gearbox ?
probably the hewland they used for racing
Haha!
Looks like a getrag or Zf casing, which seems obvious choice for Alpine and use of a BMW stock engine Cast iron block... Simple bolt on job. 🤗
Has anybody ever verified those outrageous horsepower numbers or has it become mythology....I realize its technically do-able on a dyno with a lot of tricky stuff...but not believable for a road race car. I spectated at a couple of F1 races in the mid 80's and IMHO, the cars were nothing like 1hp per lb
I've been going to F1 races since 1980 and I can verify that the figures were pretty accurate. I was at Silverstone in 1985 when Keke Rosberg set the famous 160mph average speed lap for pole position. I watched transfixed as he went through Clearways to complete the lap with a deflating left rear tyre: on opposite lock, leaving huge black lines on the tarmac, mist of unburnt fuel spraying out behind him, flames as he changed gear. Spectacular. Also don't forget in those days the engines were burning Tuorine, which is basically a rocket fuel. Read the interviews with the drivers too - it was clear those cars were way overpowered.
This engine put out maximum 850 hp with 5 bar turbo boost.
On a training lap it could output up to 1200hp. You can look this up. They dialed it down for the actual races but it should have had up to 900-1000 hp.
what makes you say that? they were insanely fast - 0 - 200kph in 4.8 seconds. yes they were at around 1 hp per lb.
@@marguskiis7711 1.450 max hp on qualifying. 5.51 bar / 80 psi of boost. Freaking 1.5l engine block
Didn’t even hit boost.
