Thank you for this video, can't wait for Anbernic to upgrade their soc for a more powerfull one, this device has the cooling capabilities already for it. keep the hard work !!
Watched this mostly for the teardown (I want to change the buttons at some point so I wanted to both check if I need to keep anything in mind while opening as well as see if the buttons are interchangeable) but ended up watching the entire thing because it's such a good review. I already have the device but it makes me glad I went with it instead of the M.
Even though the 405M's buttons are shorter as you've perfectly shown in the video, do they function correctly? I have some custom red and black buttons for my M that I'd like to use in the V.
Fantastic video Rob. I’m thinking of purchasing a retro handheld emulator recently. Thinking of this 405v, 405m and GKD Mini Plus. Not sure which one is the best. What do you recommend? Thx in advance ;)
My favorite of those three would be the 405M because it's just super pocketable and compact. My next choice would be the 405V. I would not recommend the GKD Mini Plus, the firmware/software is not great on that one. I hope that helps a little bit!🙏
I just got this but i have no idea how to use or set up files, i got the one with not out the box, does anyone know a video or guide online for this model? im very new to emulation
No, unfortunately it does not. Anbernic T618 devices for whatever reason never support HDMI out over the USB C port. You can use something like a USB C to HDMI cable with MHL built-in but it's not the best solution.
@@retrotechdad The funny part is this game was the game that sent me down the rabbit hole that is the retro handheld scene after several years away from it (I did have a pi zero in a retroflag case for a while.) About a month or so back my oldest son was punished from his switch lite and I started playing it there...decided I didn't like that I couldn't share that save with my pc, I then started playing it on my 2dsxl, didn't like that I had to manually transfer the save to and from my pc to the 2ds...started watching videos about handhelds, and now I own a retroid pocket 3+ because of it.
Go for the RGB30 (Powkiddy) it has square 720p screen. Apparently its awesome and super sharp, has bigger integer scale. But you lose some performance compares to rg405v, its more like a rg353v
Hello dad 🤘 I have a question/request for your advice - everything is fine on my BIG boy rg405v, but when I search for games on the PSP I see the game titles and nothing happens when I launch it... Please don't you know where I'm making a mistake or if something needs to be set? Thank you for your reply, greetings fans from the Czech Republic 🤘 EDIT - Where can I find android games on the RG405V? I'm not "techy" and would appreciate any answer/help. Thank you once again for your reply.
Hello looking to get this mostly for pokemon does it have most of the games available specifically on the ds with black and white and heart gold and soul silver? Thanks in advance
I wanna stay away from vertical handhelds because I have quite a few already and move to horizontal handhelds but now RG405v is released, guess I can't escape these vertical handhelds LOL!
You cant escape it man haha, especially when they release a vertical handheld like rg405v but with a chipset like snapdragon gen1 that can play ps2 game 60 fps 2x reso.
@@gershonvillamor4490 no. snapdragon gen 1 is like 3 time more powerful. Im just saying if they release a rg405v with better chip, we have to buy it haha. wanna see what gen1 can do? check out odin 2.
Thanks for a great review. I'm late to the party in that I've been trying to avoid another handheld... But I've been using these things long enough I know I much prefer verticals AND I prefer 4:3 screens... I don't love the look of this device but from your review and others it seems like it's the answer for me as it's really comfortable. I think I'll be selling my flip for one (and I sold my 405m for it, I don't love metal or horizontal). I'm also considering selling my 353v as well, my only issue there is I LOVE the look of my 353v (white with SFC buttons) but it gets almost no use because it's not enough better than my 35xx (can't run saturn, struggles with some others) that I use the flip instead. The only other option I see is to wait for the odin 2 processor to be in a vertical but I'd bet we're a year out for that...
Interesting concept, but it would be a chonker of a handheld. This one has a 4" screen and it feels big already, imagine a 5" or 6" in a vertical form factor.
Mine got lost in transit, I have to wait for a new one now 😅 Probably some postman got him/herself a nice portable device for free 🤣 PS wasn't gonna play it anyway before gamma os is fully supported on it.
Hi. I want to order it but the store said me if i dont buy it with sd card there will not be installed any games on it even though it has 128gb build in memory. Is this true? Can i install games in internal storage or do i need sd card?
Yes, you can definitely install games on the internal storage! You don't need to buy the version with a micro SD card. In fact, I highly recommend getting your own much higher quality micro SD from a well known brand like Sandisk, Samsung, etc.
Those joysticks aren't switch style sticks bc they are hall effect joysticks meaning they are magnetic and won't get joystick drift like the Switch ones can get
No, within Android there is the Anbernic frontend that you can use for a more console like experience if you prefer that. Personally, I like launching individual emulators and just going from there. Daijisho is another very popular choice for organizing everything into one spot.
I ordered the basic model. which does not include an SD card. What I wonder is, are there games on the device without an SD card? If not, you can't go to the official website and order an SD card with games on it. Anyone have any tips on where you can buy a separate SD card with games?
Good video, I get mine tomorrow - I’m interested to see what this handheld can bring, I really would to find a suitable, portable ps2 in which I’m unable to emulate without actual pc computer. Thanks for the review. BAN

Any word on a newer more powerful version of this? From Anbernic or any other company? I love the vertical format but options are limited

The game footage on the screen is so blurry, makes me think of a missed focus
Aww man, sorry about that! 🙏😭
I think this is the best looking color for this unit. The grey is the best looking for the rg35xx

But why took away the HMID ??? are they upgrading or degrading ?
Did the buttons kind of wiggle? I feel like the buttons are too small for the cutout holes in my unit. Is this common with other units?
