I really do like how good that wooden finish looks on this (maybe that's the 70s in me). The grips too, that has me curious; I'd like to try one out just to see how it feels as someone not easily sold on handhelds. The screen though, it looks pretty good through here!
That's wood is s3xy right 😉 Honestly, this is as close to a PlayStation controller as I've had from proper retro handheld. Can't guarantee it's right for you, but it's the best bet you'll have.
Looks really slick! Wooden reminds me of the 70's when people use to have wooden paneling the vans and finishing inside the cars. Great video Chronik bro
Same to me- since I grew up with the original gameboy and gamegear- I never could get used to the later handhelds. All of them were kinda too small. Even the PSP gave me cramps in my hands just as the GBA SP. Couldn’t believe the feeling of an Atari Lynx 2 which I got lately, but that’s a chunky boy. However, I finally ordered a rg405v since I got it on Blackfriday for just 130€. And also a r36s because it was on sale as well😅. My beloved GP2x WIZ has aged quite lot but served me well for over 13 years 😊
I ordered mine here in China yesterday and can't wait to get it! Sadly, I placed the order when the online sellers already started to leave for the Chinese new year holidays, so i have to wait for 10 days. Nonetheless, it looks like a fantastic gaming console.
My rg35xx plus is great but too small for my hands. I stumbled on the rg405v and was so excited for the larger size of screen and body! The 4:3 screen is great for 90s and early 2000s games. That said I'm now debating if I should early order the retroid pocket 4 pro for gc and ps2 emulation...
GC and PS2 should only be considered as bonuses for T618 based handhelds (rg405v/m or the RP3+) and not reasons to buy. The RP3/Pro is on our doorstep and tests show it performing a lot better.
Not talking about you but, for anyone wondering about performance for Gamecube, Ps2 and Wii, you just need good emulator config + GammaOS.... and I say that because I have made many games to work perfectly when many youtubers say "it doesnt run smoothly", "it will present problems" or whatever. I know they are not taking the time nor dedication to maximize the Rg405V/M capacity. They are just reviewing the console as it comes out of the box. And this type of consoles are bought by people that will spend time tweaking the console... thats part of the deal with this type of products.
You're totally right. I'm open in the fact that I aim to review these consoles out of the box for those that want minimum effort. There are great channels that go into depth on how to squeeze out the most performance. Adin Walls and Retro Game Corps are some of my faves for that.
That's what I want to do! I want complete rom sets for everything it runs... PS1 , N64, PSP, snes, nes, Atari, etc .. And some movies, and some music... RUclips etc... I want it to be my all around device... Can I get FB Messenger on it? Lol I wouldn't even need my phone !
@@ChronikSpartan I love both but I believe I am more of a landscape guy. My GBA, Steam Deck, Switch, RG552, PSP, Vita, and RG351P are some of my favorite devices. After owning the OG GB, GBP, and GBC, it wasn’t until decades later with the RG351V that I realized I kinda like vertical handhelds too. 😊
Got a Steam Deck recently, but wanted something more portable to take on a train or to the office. This is still bulky compared to some, but Ali Express had them for under £50, so I had to bite. Besides, I have a library of roms now from the Steam Deck that I can (hopefully) easily bring over to this.
im almost sold on this, my only concern is stick drift, has anyone gotten stick drift and if so, have the company fixed it or they tell you your S.O.L?
Maybe I missed it in the video, but is the games already on it? Someone like me who is terrible at technology, I don’t know how to put games on it, lol
405V also has active cooling, while it doesn't do much its extra hardware that you didn't mention when speaking about differences. Which is a pretty major miss if your doing an active review or even a comparison. Also not mentioning how false clicks on the R1 and L1 buttons are super easy/annoying is a huge miss. Not really a trustworthy review without those things. And while the 405M is fairly good, its actually worse then the RP3+ with the 16:9 screen.
That's a fair point about the fan, but to be honest, this wasn't really meant to be a comparison video, I plan to do a separate video for that. Although I realise I kind of made a lot of comparisons, I can't help it when thinking about the two. I hear a lot of people talking about false clicks but I genuinely haven't experienced that, so it wouldn't be truthful for me to say. To be honest RP3+ was my favourite handheld for a while, but over the last couple of months I've had some quality issues that I haven't with the 405M and the 405M is much more pocketable.
I'd make the leap but I'm up to my eyeballs in T618 based handhelds at the moment with both iterations that Retroid offers. Personally I'm waiting to make grotesque assumptions about your next gaming challenge. 😉👍
@@ChronikSpartan I've never considered playing any of my Funky S handhelds for a month probably because I'm compos mentis lad. I'll be coming up with a good narrative for your misguided adventure.
Android is the wrong OS for these devices. Your Phone has a 6" screen and even that is too small to navigate the OS. I think the sweet spot for Android is between 7" and 12".
I dont agree I happen to like android as a gaming os very much there are loads of games that work with controller right off the bat and lots of options for software
a tip for ps2 games if you find a game hard to run, try the european version, they run at 50 fps nativly.
Is the DQ8 can play smooth on 405v with europe version bro?
@@liango8150Yep ! No lag. Same for FFX ans FFXII.

Haha, totally agree! I feel like I should wear aviators and flares when using it 😂
Cheers bro, hope you're good!!
Amplifiers , speakers were also wooden 🤩in 70s
Got once recently really loving it, I really like the stick placement since I prefer the PlayStation controller layout.
It works really well doesn't it, I think the size makes the placement really good
It is pretty baller
Does this really have a lot of games with 128gb
@ashleysmith2028 ye mine has a lot of games on it I love it but I've been using my steamdeck alot more lately

Just bought one online for £125 delivered in wood! Can’t wait!! Great review! Can’t complain for the money! 👍
Oh wow! What a fantastic steal! You're going to love it :)
If only the RG405M had the D-Pad on top, I would have bought it months ago.
Yeah, I would prefer that too, but honestly due to the size I think it gets away with it
Take a look at the rg 505
I got one and I'm enjoying it!

@7:18 "Ever since the Game Boy DMG... I've always been a landscape handheld console kind of guy." The original Game Boy was vertical though?
Haha, yeah meaning the DMG was the only vertical I liked, after that my preference was landscape. It's a difficult sentence to make clear to be fair 🤦

V or M?
@@allen0088yea the V or M
Which one?
Is the v better at ps2 and game cube a few said it is
is there built in game when you buy it ? or you need to download
If you get one with a SD car then yes, it will have games
I really want to love this but it gets uncomfortable after long sessions and I wish I could just have arkos . The screen and battery are amazing
Yeah I do know what you mean. Vertical consoles are cool but they can't compete with horizontal for longer play sessions.
Can it play Pokémon 3ds games?
Yea but u might have to tinker a little

heard they are the same as switch Joy cons so if they drift they can be replaced
Not sure if you've found the answer yet but they're hall effect sticks, so they'll never suffer from drift

Simpsons hit and run on PS2 & GameCube
