I picked up the DMG GameBoy coloured one recently on sale. I never intended to play PS2, GameCube or Android games on it as I have a Steam Deck for higher end emulation. What I DID WANT was a lightweight and comfortable handheld I cold hold with 1 hand with a 4” 4:3 screen and enough power under the hood. Battery life was also high on my list. Having installed Gamma OS I can honestly say it’s the best handheld I’ve used, and I’ve used a lot. No battery drain on sleep (and around 12-15 hours in use), wonderful screen (for an LCD) and great ergonomics (fatter is better with added grips). It’s just such fun device to use without many frustrations I’d previously experienced.
I was expecting a harsher review of this from you, but I think what you delivered is fair! 💚 Out of all my retro handhelds, the 405V is the one I've used the most, but I also don't take it out of the house like most of the others. That screen sure is beautiful, though!
The fan is definitely overkill. I disassembled mine and saw the heatsink inside, and it is quite thick. More substantial than the fan+heatsink on my retroid pocket flip, so that contributes to why the fan rarely spins up. As for android games, I highly advise installing/playing the ff: These games use the 4:3 screen and has native controller support. In my opinion, these are the only ones worth playing. Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion Stumble Guys Sparklite Space Marshals series 1,2,3 Oceanhorn Mars: Mars Horizon Chase Dadish 1, 2 Among Us The Bard's Tale
Great review! Shem! I was contemplating getting this but already got so many other handhelds, I'd like to see a D900 353V, something pocketable, vertical and powerful.
I want one!!!! I wouldn't call the 405 m pocket able'... The trimui smart etc... The xx plus is... But it looks cramped.. and has less performance... I don't care about pocket ability... I care about performance, battery life, and comfortability... I don't know how to install gamma OS... I don't have a pc etc . Im waiting on it to go on sale .. and I'm getting this bad boy!!!
I haven't bought anything since my rg353m, and I think I won't be buying anything else. But I was looking for a console that I can gift to someone and was thinking about this, but now I will look somewhere else.

One hand!? The 405V!?
@@RetroBreezeYT yes, it doesn’t over balance and it’s not heavy. I can play some turn based JRPGs with one hand (intermittently).
Nice Review! I love the 405V even though my fan never goes on
u gotta turn it on
@@longchim4738 thanks I’ve done that still nothing, gotta open and tinker

YEEEEEES! I just ordered the RG405v purple transparent one
Love my 405V woodgrain so glad I got it instead of the 405M. Now I want that RGCube 😍

Yeah, I'm not blown away by it either. You kinda *have* to order one in though, just to experience the form factor for yourself.
Agreed, I'll be waiting for the RG406M and RG406V.
Seems perfect for my hands, I got the rg35xx plus and I almost inhaled it the other day
I'm going to wait for Anbernic's RG406M and RG406V.
I'm personally looking forward to the 406P!

Perfect device for running high-tier N64 games with retroachievements. I'm hoping they make a revision this year with 100% good gamcube support.
They need a rg405v + spam them
With Gamma OS, Gamma showed that the fan actually works to reduce thermal throttling.
I’d prefer comfort over power Thats why I’m willing to swap my Retroid Pocket 4 Pro for the RG405v any Takers im in Australia
dang! chunky boi!!!
Anyone else having issues pressing playing a game with key mapping on?? Like not being able to press multiple buttons at once??
I want one!!!!

I just think there are better buys in horizontal form. I really wouldnt want thumbsticks on that shape
Vertical is superior. Hate horizontal. Just buy a switch we want gameboy form factor bruh
Switch emulation review
This thing can't do switch
Mate, pixelate those thumbs of yours- there are kids watching!
Carnie hands
Big device, small buttons, such a bad look.
You have to tested to experience this video is only a opinion
Ugh.... You mean sticks? Cause the buttons are huge compared to other devices
