Back in '86, with the release of the original.... I was hospitalized after an accident. It was one afternoon that the nurses and the therapists took I and the other young patients like me to go to the theater. I was awe-struck by the action, color and sound of the film. In fact, the sound /noise of the movie theater was so dynamic.... That it had me in tears! 😀 The nurses had to roll me and my chair back out of the theater until I calmed down. 🙂

@@jeff-hopkins I remember watching the first one on VHS the first time at Grandma's at a family get together between getting blow by blows of what our guys were doing with Noriega by an Uncle that should have been there like the rest of the Central American stuff. His leave was planned for months and his guys and leadership told him to go home and that they had it covered. One thing he would have words about the Airborne today is the packer teams for the parachutes, his training was you never jump unless you packed it yourself. I also will continue to call it Fort Bragg because the erasure of History only serves to insure that you will repeat it. It also a false issue for the DNC to take up as they are the party of the Confederacy and later the KKK (That requires all members to be Democrat in the Charter) unless they hope to fool the people so they can repeat it.

One of my buddies there admits that his parachuting accident was his own fault because he jumped with a chute wrapped by someone else! 😲 He was jumping down into his sister's outdoor wedding reception, his chute didn't open properly (a "streamer" he explained to us) and he came barreling down through the buffet tables in the center of the whole event! 😲As he explained this to me and the other youngest member of this therapy group, we were all laughing so hard! I asked him, "So Craig, you almost die there -right on the spot of your sister's wedding? What kind of.... What kind of relationship do you and your sister share now?" He looked up from his wheelchair, shrugged his shoulders and calmly told us, "I can't figure it out... The girl hates me now!" Him, I and the other youngest member of that therapy group laughed so hard, we almost fell down! 😀

8:43 Yes, they do. They also make engines for commercial jet airliners. And a fun fact; Mitsubishi used to make planes for Japan in the second world war including the Mitsubishi A6M Zero. Same goes for Porsche but they used to make German tanks such as the Tiger I (P), Tiger II (P) etc.
10:04 Mach is a speed unit.
Mach 1 is considered the speed of sound which is around 767 mph or 1235 kmh. Anything that goes above Mach 1 is considered supersonic, while everything going below Mach 1 is considered subsonic.
Your average commerical airliner goes Mach 0.84 or 644 mph (1037 kmh)
The Concorde, the fastest succesfull operational commercial jet airliner goes Mach 2+ or 1535 mph (2470 kmh) and can cross the Atlantic Ocean from London to New York in 3 hours compared to airliners today which take 10-12 hours.
The Su-57 goes Mach 2 as well.
The SR-71 Blackbird goes Mach 3.4 or 2609 mph (around 4200 kmh)
The SR-72 Darkstar goes Mach 10 or 7670 mph (12350 kmh). Anything above Mach 10 is considered hypersonic, while anything below Mach 10 is considered supersonic.
The SR-72 is the only jet that is fictional here. But the concept by Lockheed Martin does exist ever since like 2013 iirc.
    41:00 Siberia, region in Russia.
The fact that two Su-57's 5 Gen superiority fighters lost to 1 F-14 had me wildin. Even if that was real life there would be no way for Maverick to win against a R-77 or R-73 with just flares.

That said, it's not clear from either movie exactly how old the *character* Penny was, and I think if anything Jennifer Connelly may well be a few years younger than the character she was portraying. None of this seems like completely crazy casting or necessarily a mistake in any real sense(?).

The Darkstar is something that Lockheed's Skunkworks division actually designed and built for the movie. While it is physically real, it is still just a prop. But an extremely well designed and built one. It's speculated to be based on their Mach 6+ drone the SR-71, which will be the successor to their legendary SR-71 Blackbird (the fastest manned air breathing jet in the world still). It's said that China redirected a spy satellite to get a look at the prop, believing it was actually a real jet. Also, no, they don't identify the enemy countries in the Top Gun movies. They're just unnamed badguy countries.

25:34 I don’t buy that Maverick pulling Rooster’s papers set him back 4 years. Going to the actual academy is not the only route to an officer’s commission.
I know plenty of people who earned their Navy commissions through an ROTC program at a regular college. Some of them then went onto become pilots in the US Navy.
So just saying it was such an obstacle doesn’t wash. FYI a female pilot who now flies with the Blue Angels entered the Navy as an enlisted person. She later earned her officer's commision and went to flight school.

9:37 Maverick seems a little stuck in the past. Admiral Cain is correct he should be a two star admiral by now. With the number of medals shown on his chest later I can’t help but think he is subconsciously screwing up to avoid promotion.
It’s like he never grew up. As an Admiral and a highly decorated combat pilot he could do a lot to advocate for other pilots.
FYI Mach 1 is the speed of sound not light. We don’t have the technology to accelerate a plane up to the speed of light. LOL.

The cobra spin was not CGI. There is a reaction/review by real Top Gun instructors who said that maneuver does happen, that it really isn’t supposed to, but happens for the same competitive reasons it happened in the film.
The vast majority was completely practical. Tom Cruise had all of the actors go through intense pilot training. Lots of videos showing what they went through. They also had to turn the cameras on and off, fix their makeup, pay attention to lighting and other cinematography because there was no room in the real fighters for a cameraman, just the real navy pilot and actor. They would film everything before coming down and they had no idea what they got on film until they landed and reviewed the film. A lot of behind the scenes on all of this. You can tell they are really in the planes by the breathing exercise you have to do when pulling Gs. When you see them pass out, they really actually passed out. Obviously they didn’t put the actors in the level G force the movie claims it is, but it was a lot. You can also tell by the pull on their faces which can’t be manufactured. It is really a cinematic marvel what they all did to make this and it came out so well. Even the scene at the beginning when he blew the roof off was real and unexpected. It was a one take because the building was ruined.
