Ray Alan Alan But I am willing to look past that because his acting is incredible. The same as Daniel Craig cannot do an American accent to save his life, but he is a very good actor.
Luvie1980 He is. Except that in this particular case his character was so generic that *anyone* could have played it. And there was nothing phenomenal about Fassbender's performance. Just phoned it. He lent his name to this so his friend could get the movie made. But we didn't get a ' Fassbender' performance.
I am always two years late; but I found this delightfully weird and the landscape was gorgeous. It is just I kept thinking I was watching the adventures of a young Andy Murray in the title role...
I really wanted to love this film but I left the cinema feeling slightly underwhelmed. Fassbender was still very strong and I can't fault the performances but the plot disappointed slightly. Great cinematography though.
All the foreshadowing in this movie was amazing its even better watching it the 2nd time as u pick up on small things straight away.. love this movie the romantic world jay had read about how totally innocent he was with these poetic ideals that dont fit in to real life survival and his minder who knows the world all too well and how to survive but when they leave the kids behind u see it affects him the most as he whistles to disguise his emotion his eyes well up with tears as he knows the road ahead as he lived that life taken in by villians and raised a villain
Saw this movie last night. Problems: You ever been west of the Mississippi outside, without a Hat? In the store the kids shoots the lady without cocking the hammer, film says it 1870, first double action revolver didn't come out until 1877. Dude gets shot twice with a 45-70 (buffalo rifle), sorry but without an immediate care-flight to a very well equipped and staffed 2018 style trauma center, you ain't getting up from that.
Really liked this.....so glad Kermode mentioned Dead Man; Ben Mendelsohn's character reminded me a little of Iggy Pop in that film. Also thanks for reminding me of The Road - I knew I'd seen that young actor before but couldn't place him. :)
I have to say I was initially taken aback by the dower ending, but I've since come around to recognize its significance. I may have enjoyed a tad more of a wrap up to the film, as it seems to just drop the characters altogether, but it does punctuate the sort of melancholy unapologetically harsh nature of the whole thing.
***** Odeon and Vue cinemas are doing limited release only, looks like it will mostly be in the London area. It seems to be going round the film festivals so don't expect it to be given a wide release.
+Onmysheet I actually thought the fact that it was neat and trimmed made it all the better. It could have been 2 and a half hours easily, but there wasn't really any need for it. I think people are so used to having every movie be 2 or more hours long nowadays, that a movie like this that is probably more in the right area in terms of length feels almost abrupt. I wasn't left feeling short changed though and I think it ended at a very dignified place.
ice I actually like films that are 90 mins long, but just not in the case of Slow West. There's a problem with films, especially with blockbusters, where they have to be 160 mins (Tarantino, I'm pointing at you) lol.
Literally the worst western I've seen. They did a terrible job of providing any kind of context for the scenes. I feel like only pretentious movie snobs like these type of movies for the "symbolism" and other BS
The 'salt in the wound' moment was genius. LOVE this movie 🙌
Practically everything Michael Fassbender does is awesome! He is a phenomenal actor.
Ray Alan Alan But I am willing to look past that because his acting is incredible. The same as Daniel Craig cannot do an American accent to save his life, but he is a very good actor.
Ray Alan Alan Well in my opinion he is the best Bond since Connery.
Ray Alan Alan Oh thanks. An ultimate dream of mine. :)

Jerry Incandenza Yeah but it did not suck because of him.

I really liked it, felt like a Wes Anderson movie but with just the right amount of 'quirk'
Every actor wants to play a gunslinger atleast once in their career.
Beautiful little film. Amazing final set piece.
Saw it tonight, terrific! Must see!
I liked it, it was both sad and funny at the same time

Just saw this. Absolutely loved it. Second favourite of the year behind Fury Road.
That New Zealand scenery is just wow

I loved this movie it was very tragic but as Kermode describes it has a sense of hopefulness too. Kodit and Fasbender did an amazing job

:)
ARTHURCBR Oh cool, I've still not seen that....loved ROTPotA
:)
reminds me of Jim Jarmush's Dead Man = Me seeing this movie immediately

Good film with a top soundtrack
:/ Is it just me, or has this film been advertised everywhere... yet no cinemas are showing it... SO annoyed as I really want to see this :/
***** You can download high quality rips of it if you want to see it. Just Google YIFY.
I've looked at every cinema in my area and no where has it on...
***** it's out in London now, Cineworld and Picture House cinemas are showing it.
but thats the point... i'm not near to any of those cinemas...
***** Odeon and Vue cinemas are doing limited release only, looks like it will mostly be in the London area. It seems to be going round the film festivals so don't expect it to be given a wide release.
Why is this not being shown at Cineworld cinemas? Can you find out Mark?
it's available for download and streaming everywhere
Ok cheers. Not quite the same though is it? Not many other decent releases this week so would have liked to have seen this at the cinema.
ntube7 it is showing in the cineworld in my city. I am from Glasgow. where are you?
foghornfilms It was only Cineworld Glasgow and one in London, none of their other cinemas unfortunately.
This is just an amazing movie
shot in new zealand?
It was a good film, excellent (Visually). But it should have been a little bit more longer. 7/10

Really good film. I think it would make a great double showing with Jim Jarmusch's Dead Man. Both are really quirky retelling's of the old west.
The film sounded interesting, up until Mark mentioned resemblances of Dead Man...
Hated the music.
Loved the ending.
Was happy Fastbender wasn't killed for being a good guy.
ehhh, is that a Scottish accent?
Literally the worst western I've seen. They did a terrible job of providing any kind of context for the scenes. I feel like only pretentious movie snobs like these type of movies for the "symbolism" and other BS
Idiot, bloody idiot
You want some film with that exposition? You dullard
I thought it was really boring
Zzz. I think I will skip this one.
It looks great and the actors are solid but the story is really contrived and full of holes.
Thanks for the review though!
oldfool666 that's because there's a great big shootout near the end of the movie!
foghornfilms LOL ... that really did make me laugh out loud
***** Affirmative!
It was pretentious and booboo
