- In this episode of Kindred Stories, we are joined by activist and writer Yousef Aljamal, the Gaza coordinator for the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC).
Yousef shares his experiences growing up in the Nuseirat refugee camp, where life under occupation shaped his journey as a storyteller and advocate. He discusses the power of storytelling as a form of resistance, his efforts to honor his late mentor Dr. Refaat Alareer, and the importance of reclaiming Palestinian narratives.

Not gonna lie but I like kindred stories more than KS.
Still listening to KS regularly btw. It's a good regular dose of public policy
Thank you KJ and SHAHRIL HAMDAN
There's an interesting concept about the "fatigue" that you guys talked about. It's called the "arithmetic of compassion" by Paul and Scott Slovic. The idea is that people tend to have psychological barriers that hinder their ability to respond compassionately to large-scale suffering. There's a website explaining everything about it, just google the concept.
Slovic also suggests possible approaches to overcoming the “arithmetic of compassion”, or desensitization to compassion through poignant approaches to communication: by reducing large-scale phenomena to individuals, scaling up to the bigger picture, [telling] stories of vulnerabilities, [and] stories that reveal a dramatic change.
Ya Allah! Rindunya kindred stories!
Missing kindred stories for a while
