I used to be a diehard Shimano guy then I bought a high end bike with AXS and it also had Ultimate SRAM brakes. I'm really impressed with the quality and performance. The rotors stay straight the brakes perform perfectly its really amazing
“How to get the most from your SRAM brakes”: take them off you bike, post them on eBay. When a sucker buys them, use that money to get some Shimano brakes 😎 Jk, I’m sure they’ve worked out the kinks from the lever debacle a few years ago.
They have made improvements since that particular fiasco, but Shimano still wins on lever feel and modulation for me at least and almost everyone I have talked to.
I’ve ridden xt’s, slx’s, Code Rs, and Guide Rs. The Sram brakes have MUCH better lever feel and modulation and are much more consistent. Shins no brakes have this annoying on-off feel. Avid was garbage, but Sram have really stepped up their game and everyone should give them a chance before judging them based on outdated opinions. Just my 2 cents.
@@abassi1173 And here is where you and I disagree, because I personally prefer the on and off feel of shimano and I feel they do better on consistency than sram, seeing as sram brakes still lock up above about 95 degrees ambient temp.
Ari Tapper I guess that’s up to you, but I’ve left my bikes with brakes in the car for days on end in summer without any issue. Those issues were only for the Guide brakes and anyone who contacted SRAM got it fixed for free. If you’ve been riding shimano all your mtbing life, then of course you’re going to like it. I’ve been riding two years and I chose sram over shimano cause I really liked the lever feel better and it was more stable, modulated, and linearly progressive, but like I said, to each his own.
SRAM's "modulation" is just a marketing description of the two facts: 1. I have no braking skills. 2. I have an expensive brake without braking effect, so I have to pull the lever even more. Just as meaningful as a 3000 € iPhone or a 300 kg Harley Davidson.

I ride: Front: Sinter-Metal/Organic Back: Metal Because i ride mostly downhill trails in the woods with 70% dry and 30% wet conditions, my back is the dominant brake - I think its the best to have the responsive front brake and the endurance back brake. All ridden on the sram guide rsc front and back

I am back on TRP Spyke dual piston mechanical brakes, and now my fingers are stronger so they don't fatigue even with the stiff return spring in the caliper, so now I have more reliable and consistent brakes than what Shimano hydraulics were. But I see Magura comes recommended by several ppl including by my followers on Instagram, but another one is Trick Stuff, a dude had it for 3 years no issues. I also read in Terrengsykkel.no forum that a dude had Magura brakes for years no leaks or issues. But I haven't Tried any of them yet, not even a little test on someone else's bike.
Never had a leak on shimano. Iv just swapped my slx for the new shimano xt 4 pot and it was seamless. Even with all the horrible internal cable routing issues. Never tried Magura but everything else in the past has been crap. Shimano rule IMO

Three of my bikes have Shimano hydraulic brakes and the function flawlessly. My MBT has Sram guide R's and I am not sure if I like those. @@jcsrst I no longer use their shifters, sold all I could, they don't fit, nor doe sram or would any other on the market, also mechanical shifter iwth clutch rd is fatiguing, but the absurd amount of movement required on shimano shifters are not optimal. I use Archer d1x electronic shifting system, it eliminates fatigue and pain, Box One rd, is easy 5o take apart and can swap bushings instead of whole new rd.
I have both saints and code rsc and I’m definitely more partial to the codes even though the saints are easy to work on they don’t have the range of power or the precision of modulation
@@user-pp5or5og4k bad rotor design seems to be one of the reasons. flimsy rotors with huge, long venting holes, a bad design, HopeTech for example is much better, many small holes, a big braking surface. BrakeStuff is also an option. I haven't tried those. but they seem like good rotors.
Getting SRAM brakes to perform perfectly? Buy something that actually works. I had 3 bikes from new equiped with SRAM brakes. All either never worked or started misbehaving within a month. Nothing the bike mechanic could fix. Never had issues since binning that crap 😉
Sram Code are really good brakes. A testbike got shimano saint brakes and what I rode they should be much stonger. I have to say I was dissapointed. There is not much difference. I had Sram Guide R on my old trailbike. They were are little bit weak.

Two of my bikes came with Guide RS and Guide RE. I gave them a chance but they were garbage, sticky plunger in the lever (RS), no proper braking power (both) so I ended up replacing them with Shimano. Even the two pistons budget Deore is better than any of these...

Martin Radev well they are (except the guides, they are trash) working at a bike shop we used to get so many shimano brakes because they failed,squealed,pulled to the bar or didn’t pull far in enough. Sram are pretty set and forget, especially the code rsc

I found out that it's important to align the caliper manually without brake pads. My sram guide now feels less spongy.
This is essential with any brakes.

R W most guide t brakes have this spongy feel. You could try bigger rotors or upgrade your brakes to codes or shimano brakes.

9:27 I use 100 grit sand paper, which is what Pinkbike recommended in their resurfacing guide, for me it works, I have Hope Floating Rotors.

bite point/pad adjustment is a great feature, I think every Hydraulic brake should have this.

Eliminate squeeky pads with hot water and dishwasher fluid in a bottle by spraying on the pads and rotors whilst riding.
I honestly don't understand why SRAM feel the need to use dot fluid. It is the worse stuff to work with and it eats paint.
