This is one of my favourite quotes of all time and it's a shame they did not include it in the remake. I feel like this quote applies not only to laws but to many-many things in our bureaucracy-filled world. My personal take away from this is I never take laws and rules at face value, but always in the context of who's enforsing them and why. That helped my a lot in my path through education/career. @@6PrinceVegeta He told Sam. Salieri probably found out about the prostitute and Frank before the diamond mission, so he no longer trusted Tom with all the information. Yeah, the translator/dubber messed that part up. In the original Czech version, Tommy's answer is 'Excuse me?' with a really confused intonation. It's kind of a shame that the Eng. version didn't have better voice actors, the original was absolutely superb.
Tommy would say yes because he was shocked to hear someone calling him by his original name and then at his final moment after he turned his body,he realized that they're going to kill him.
*Spends years giving information against Salieri and his goons to get himself and his family a new life with new identities* Vito: Mr Angelo Tommy: Yes?
I think that moment they made it better on Definitive Edition (even better than Mafia 2's version as well), as Tommy doesn't look surprised in DE and his reaction is more like "I knew that was coming sooner or later, this is my final moment". Both original Mafia and Mafia 2's version he seems surprised and confused, even though he should've known what was gonna happen as soon as Vito called him by his real name
I liked the shocked surprised nature of the original better as it is more realistic. When I was studying risk management and personal protection, one little fact surprised me. Most people in witness protection will eventually trip up when their name is called. Their old name. The surprise at hearing it, and being addressed by it shocks them into a response of shocked acknowledgment.
One thing I like about the original version is that beginning cutscene in this video where Sam tells Tommy why there is no other way and Tommy tries to make a small attempt to tell Sam it’s not to late to help him wish they made a scene like that in the Remake although Sam’s betrayal felt more human and painful as you can see through his wording and actions (him getting ready to kill Tommy but not going through with it)
People who say that about Mafia 2 only say that because they played it before Mafia 1 and also because they are "graphics obsessed." Also it helps that Mafia 2 came out when open world games started to decline. There was no heavy competition. True crime died, the getaway died. The godfather died. Just Cause was just making it's second release. So Mafia 2 wasn't competing with much on the market so newbies were instantly drawn in by a title called "Mafia 2" not having played the first one. Mafia 1 came out at a time where there were so many PS2 games. It was hard to get exposure. So it's just timing for the most part. That's why people prefer Mafia 2. It came out at the right time.
@@hanzo7616 I played Mafia 2 before I ever played M1 but I loved Mafia 2 so much that I had to go and play the first, to my surprise I loved it even more than Mafia 2. I replay it every year, I can't begin to imagine how amazing it would have been when it first came out. I still think the graphics are pretty decent tbh, the city has a lot of detail and the car models are insane compared to other games from the era like Vice City.
@@Spider-Man62 In my opinion the remake is a solid game. It is not so similar like the original but I think Hangar 13 made a good job remaking this game especially the cinematic scenes.
It’s wild that they made the guy who was sent to kill Tommy the protagonist of Mafia 2, who at that time was just some random dude along with the guy who actually shot Tommy. I wonder if they knew how popular Vito/Joe would become in the games after this one.
Wow, playing Mafia 1 remake and coming back to this is fucking epic. I say that because they did such an amazing job remaking this game! Brilliant story. I loved every bit of it Graphics are beautiful...
they should remake this game with the same story. no changes to the story or the dialogues. just next gen graphics and probably tweak the gameplay a little. but wow if they remake this game that would be epic! i love this game. played it 12 years ago and started playing it again. this game has aged well!
I can appreciate what this game laid the foundation for when it was released, but man I’m glad my first experience with the Mafia franchise was Mafia DE, the more refined story and acting in that made it so much sweeter
It's amazing that the Joey's looks were made based on this. They carried the same car too. I really love that they thought of part 2's main characters to be made from this point of game's story. We can see Tommy's death in 3 games
I kind of love this version of Sam's death way more than Remake one. People say that in Remake it was improved by showing more emotions, more interaction between the two as friends. But people forget that Sam was never really that much of a friend to Tom in the original. Remember who Tom got drunk with everyday? It was Paulie. Or when Tom didn't kill Frank who did he mention? It was Paulie. They were comrades and buddies, but never were that much of friends as Paulie and Tom were. In one of the talks with Norman Tom mentions that each family has a person that reports everything to Don from the shadows and no one except the Don knows who this person is. In the end it all leads up to the fact that Sam has been this person all along. Remake Sam (Who I do not like at all) does fit Remake ending because of how they interacted during the Remake plot. But in Original it was Salieri Sam was always loyal to the most, not Paulie or Tom. Hence why they did not hesitate seeing each other as enemies. Especially after Paulie's death.
@@SquidplopI think he's talking about how Tommy survived a point blank shotgun blast to the chest as an old man just to say that "family is important". I prefer the bleakness of this ending. Tommy the main character, just straight up dies.

"There ain't no way back, Tom. I'm sorry." Tom saved Sam's ass many times throughout the story, but like Frank said:"In the end your best friend kills you".

Remake has more cinematic storytelling but not nearly as much soul than this original masterpiece.
If soul you mean shitty gameplay then I'll stick to the remake.
The guy who wants too much stands to lose every, and the guy who wants too little, may get nothing at all....
I'm so proud to be Czech, miluju Mafii, je to moje nejoblíbenější hra, hold, český ručičky stvořily zázrak.
A přátelství je sračka o.o
Mafia II bruuuhhh. Idk how tf did that czech company made it. But it was fking dope. It still amazes me even till this day
One thing I like about the original version is that beginning cutscene in this video where Sam tells Tommy why there is no other way and Tommy tries to make a small attempt to tell Sam it’s not to late to help him wish they made a scene like that in the Remake although Sam’s betrayal felt more human and painful as you can see through his wording and actions (him getting ready to kill Tommy but not going through with it)
And people says that gta 4 and mafia 2 are the only deepest game ever
I really hope the remake won't stray far from the original's cutscenes.
Same here, from what i keep seeing, Mike Sorvino didn't return.. so Thomas was recast... hope that's not true :/
@@Shjinta thats true.
Well alternative ending was not a mistake btw
Well it didn't disappointed
It did change the speech, but it's great
who is here after the remake??
Me. Wondering how they managed to butcher such a masterpiece
I like how in the remake he isnt surprised about them arriving because he knew they would come for him eventually
@@Spider-Man62 In my opinion the remake is a solid game. It is not so similar like the original but I think Hangar 13 made a good job remaking this game especially the cinematic scenes.
@@dansandu8136 I feel like the characters had more details on the remake, the personality stands out more
@@andrwikfernandez4685 Yes exactly . Shame they didn't put the original combat soundtracks it would had been great if they did that.
It’s wild that they made the guy who was sent to kill Tommy the protagonist of Mafia 2, who at that time was just some random dude along with the guy who actually shot Tommy. I wonder if they knew how popular Vito/Joe would become in the games after this one.
4:25 they should have definitely kept this line in the remastered :/
That wouldn't fit on the remake Sam since he's more sympathetic than the original one.
Loved the remake but this one end hits harder
They let him wear his suit for eight years in his cell as part of the deal I suppose.
He was locked up only over the time of trials. EN version is a bit simplified, but in CZ version he got in a bit more details.
Man they changed all of the dialogue and background for some of the characters in the definitive edition
It was very sad having to play this mission in mafia 2 where you have to kill him and this exact scene plays.
Wow, playing Mafia 1 remake and coming back to this is fucking epic. I say that because they did such an amazing job remaking this game! Brilliant story. I loved every bit of it Graphics are beautiful...
Original mafia is such a beast of a game
Literally the greatest ending to a video game ever
Way better ending speech than in DE
One of the best games ever made.
For whom don’t know yeat these guys who kill Tommy are the characters in Mafia II, the protagonist Vitor and his friend, Joe
And I see this video after the announcement of the Mafia Remake
they should remake this game with the same story. no changes to the story or the dialogues. just next gen graphics and probably tweak the gameplay a little. but wow if they remake this game that would be epic! i love this game. played it 12 years ago and started playing it again. this game has aged well!
+axe 1988 (axxy) tweak gameplay? Really? Its easy.
+axe 1988 (axxy) I think that it should stay the way it is. The old feeling to it makes it even more epic.
There is a fan Remake on ModDB for free, if you wanna check it out
They are remaking it
@@supermilkshake6745 yes I heard! So excited!
Old version is way better than the new one
Both were great in their own way
How? This shit is trash, even for the time. DE is everything the original should’ve been, but the technology wasn’t advanced enough yet.
Nah, they're both good.
No cinema movie, no series or anything have such an excellent ending. Especially the moment when Tommy looks at Sam's dead body and the Mafia music...
Epic Game.
in 2002 i was 14y old. Good times when we were getting 10 good games per year not 2-3.
i was 17 when this version of the game came out it is such a great series of games i really like the oringal game though it was a epic game
Amazing game. Timeless.
Man, thank goodness they recast the voice actors
The remake doesn't hold a candle to this
How?? And I played the original first before DE.
@@SquidplopI think he's talking about how Tommy survived a point blank shotgun blast to the chest as an old man just to say that "family is important". I prefer the bleakness of this ending. Tommy the main character, just straight up dies.
@@thefightingfadoraguy6732nah that was a more proper sendoff to a great character he fought for him and his family and died by his family by his side better ending than this one for sure his family was
Nowhere to be found.
Best ending ever in the Mafia franchise
Why is the mobolouage here so much better than the remake
Dude it sounds Bland as Hell no emotion behind it
@ the orginal is written alot better imo. The voice acting is good in remake but the dialogue is better in the orginal
1:56 sam is doing party
XDDD
I'm 15 and this game's details still impress me till this day.
I kinda prefer how this version ends over the remaster.
The original creator himself said the remaster sucks because the story is edited and the ending is cut.
@@TheOnlyJura remake ending is good but is a bit different. I like the fact that in the remake he wakes up from dead only to talk with his family and dies again.
I like the remake ending more especially when how he was with his family at the end plus they didn't make tommy look scared in the remake he went out like a real OG.
@@jayDee92133 agree 100
@@RazvanHardcore HAHA
"There ain't no way back, Tom. I'm sorry." Tom saved Sam's ass many times throughout the story, but like Frank said:"In the end your best friend kills you".
Is going to be real mess up to see this on the remake. Is actually going to be Vito and Joe this time.
yeah it kind of just ruins the ending more because after you see the main character get killed by the next games characters it kind of makes you not want to play mafia ll because the same thing could happen
@@ethanblair7351 Nah.
It's not gta v where it's about criminal having a bit fun
It's not skyrim where you join on your fantasies
It's mafia, a reality you can't change, it's just how life works, and thats why i lovw this game
This was a better ending than the definitive edition.
I played this game when I was like 10/11, definitive edition really brought back the memories! Great that I played my favorite game and able to understand it this time
masterpiece.state of art.
They somehow made this great scene even better in the Definitive Edition
those two are Vito and joe
I wish I had a memory eraser after finishing the game. It made such a great impression on me that I have fallen in love not with the mobster's lifestyle but with its attributes like clothes, cars and atmosphere for sure
Tell me about it bruh. The only thing we can do is play it again after every few years. Feels fresh when you don't play if for a while. Love this game. I never understood how people like Mafia 2 better. Just no.
