I could be a lot wealthier than I am, but I have led a very balanced life.
Friends and colleagues have always told me I should be working harder and I can take vacations and spend time with my family after I achieve success.
I am 60 years old and have all of the money I need for the rest of my life. I live in a modest house and have driven modest, but very nice, cars. I have been fortunate enough to travel the world many times over. I ski, I fly, I have my own business and no regrets!!!

I’m 35 and have done well for myself. I felt this happening and naturally started to find meaning in other areas of my life and see work as just a tool to finance the parts of my life that are actually fulfilling like traveling, spending time with friends and family and doing hobbies that bring me happiness. Work and money isn’t the goal, it’s a tool to get you to your goals from my POV.

I've been retired since 37. I make less than 50k a year from my rental properties. I live the life of a house cat. Everyone of my tenants live in better homes than I do and I prioritize their homes upkeep over my own. The greatest status symbol I can think of is to not work. I live a frugal existence and do my best to limit my personal expenses and upkeep to 1k or less a month. Every 6 or 7 years I buy another house to put to work for me. I go out of my way to give the illusion of poverty. My car is over 20 years old and I own the wardrobe of a homeless person. Our shallow society gives off the impression that I'm the last guy you think would have any money. Because of my property managers, not even my tenants think I own their homes. 0 debt 0 kids and 3 grandchildren to leave my material wealth to when I die. My money works for me so I tell people I'm unemployed. My idle hands are the devil's envy and since I'm an atheist, I'll be fine. Live long and prosper 🖖

Did I make the bargain? I was making about $200k and I quit. Now I make about $20hr. Strangely, I no longer feel like an extra in a movie about my life. I am barely making ends meet, but I feel more alive than I have in years.

This is a thought of what i got from this video
Making money is not the ultimate purpose of life. Instead, money is a tool-a means to an end. It allows you to gain the freedom to live life on your terms. That’s when your real life begins.
Once you’ve unlocked financial freedom, you can focus on doing the things that truly bring you joy and fulfillment. This is why people like Mark Cuban, a billionaire, bought a basketball team-not for the money, but for the experience of being involved in something he loves. Wealth gives you the power to shape your life the way you want. Without money, even basic necessities like eating become a challenge.
The problem is that many people confuse the pursuit of wealth with the purpose of life. They get stuck in the endless cycle of “get rich, hustle, repeat,” thinking that simply being rich is the goal. But being rich in itself isn’t fun-it’s what you do with that wealth that makes life fulfilling. When all you focus on is accumulating money, you risk feeling empty and directionless, wondering, "What’s next?" That’s when people fall into depression, addiction, or other destructive habits.
True wealth isn’t just about buying expensive, flashy material things. Sure, those can be enjoyable, but that’s not the sole purpose of wealth. The real purpose of being wealthy is the access it provides to experiences and opportunities, such as:
Traveling the world and exploring different cultures.
Eating great food and ensuring your family is well-fed and cared for.
Indulging in ridiculous, funny purchases just because you can.
Helping others by providing financial support to those in need.
Buying entertainment or investing in hobbies that bring you joy.
Connecting with other successful individuals, such as your favorite RUclipsr, actor, or other top 1% achievers.
    And so much more.
Wealth allows you to live a full and abundant life. It’s not just about owning material possessions but about having access to experiences, people, and freedom. Without these, you risk becoming isolated and unhappy despite your riches.
Of course, maintaining wealth requires effort-that’s normal. But life isn’t just about grinding endlessly, earning money, and buying things in a repetitive loop. That approach will eventually stop being enjoyable. The key is to use your wealth to create a life filled with purpose, joy, and meaning.
In short: become wealthy so you can live life on your terms-not just to chase a hollow idea of "getting rich." Wealth should enhance your life, not define it.

Great video! I totally relate to this, in starting my latest company I’ve warned myself and those closest to me that in order for me to for fill that mission to the level it demands of me I don’t like the person I have to become but there is no other way.
The CEO psychopath personality type is a modernised example of jungs story here. There is a lot of purpose to be found in the fight/game which is very valuable in a society where purpose and meaning are intrinsically flawed. Capitalism is god in western society. Like it or not. So I consciously choose to play the game or “do the deal with the devil.” The community we now live in punishes the empathic and rewards the ego & impulse driven psychopaths.

It sucks to now instead walk in another direction, flatland, maybe even back down. But if you can't get fulfillment then at least entitle yourself to lean back and try to get the rocking chair retirement figured out. Hopefully its not much harder than studying for the senior career.

This shares parallels with William Strauss book Generations and the cycles of history or civilization itself goes through. In it the cycles are High, Awakening, Unraveling, and Crises. The bargain with the devil is the high as luxury is beget from industrialization that neuters humanity. The Awakening is the girl running away to the other king, the unraveling is when she flees with her baby. And the Crises is when she has to get dirty to save it.
That as well it parallels Ibn Khaldun about how luxury kills society and asabiyah or group think plants seeds for the society death in its highest moments

Most men do not achieve financial freedom after 12 to 20 years… or ever. So while this may be illustrative to the small sliver of the population that does, it misses the broad majority. The author is targeting a specific demographic to coach so this specific framing is powerful to them, but I think the more general frame is that men either A) men choose work for money and are susceptible to dissatisfaction in long term once their ability to achieve plateaus or comes into conflict with values their unwilling to compromise or change or B) men who choose purpose driven work become dismayed as they sense a plateau or limited impact in their efforts and seek new purpose to keep them going. This could be flattened into one statement actually… if you’ve read this far, have you had this experience? What path did you choose in early adult life? Why? Have you hit a plateau and how did it impact your outlook, action, and purpose?

There is one very large oversight in the logic of this presentation. The oversight is illustrated by an account of Jesus encounter with a young rich man in Matthew 19:21-24. The point is this, whatever your true calling is, it may in fact call for you to sacrifice all that you have accumulated up to that point in your life. You must be willing to sacrifice all of it to pursue your calling rather than keep on living a cushy life. So, it would be unwise to think the cost will be less. I'm not implying that one choice is superior to the other morally. If you consider the opening reference to Goethe, he did not say, 'at the moment of CONDITIONAL commitment the entire universe conspires to assist you.'

Just because that's not your experience doesn't mean it's not the experience for other people. you shouldn't let your own bias blind you to the world.

Thank god I don't experience this.
I have my life fulfilled with enough material wealth.
    The key ?
    Be fulfilled. Be grateful.
And don't believe in bullshit such as "if you are the smartest in the room, you are in the wrong room".
Its for child. We're an adult. Accept that.

Start something now anyway, luv. Time can still be treated as a fuzzy notion till the day you breathe yer final breath. The cosmic joke being that tho u may think that you haven't done anything of note or missed the boat, truth is others were doing their second hill march to clear a path for you. Whenever u are ready, your crew has yer back.
Sorry for the run on sentence, btw.
I commented as much for you as for myself and anyone else that happens to be reading this

They end up feeling like this because they aren’t giving back enough to the people they ate off or didn’t have a real reason to be needing the money in the first place. People who get rich with a purpose spend the rest of their lives building up impoverished communities &/or innovating in ways to improve future generations not yet born. They don’t “run out of stuff to do.” “They get bored & run out of stuff to do” 😂 come to the hood & be a mentor to people genuinely trying to make a better life & remain legit, I bet you’ll find a lot to keep you busy trying to survive. Smfh lame ducks…

If you're a rich man with nothing better to do, you can shuffle that lazy a55 over to my family farm, destroyed by Hurricane Helene last month.
There's no shortage of things to clean up, and stuff to fix. i could work the rest of my life at home living off my savings and never fix it all....

Quite true for most. I left the corporate world long ago.
I have taken an extremely different path. Not sure how much longer I can survive after 20 years in the forest. At least I can walk again after breaking both legs.
