@@BennyBerner I have a Bernese mountain dog and he behaves the exact same way as Benny. Of course, we have never had a baby in the house, but mine is curious, playful and just as loyal as Benny. Loved watching this video!
@@madjack7777 Our last Berner did that occasionally, and if Benny is doing the same thing I wouldn't worry. Our Berner was super gentle and I wouldn't describe it as biting and more as touching stuff with the inside of his mouth, there was no force whatsoever, it was extremely delicate and he could literally finess a piece of cheese or ham out of a sandwich without the sandwich moving, lol. That said I'm not completely sure that Benny is the same, but it could definitely be the case, and if it is I wouldn't worry and I would trust his owners about it, they seem responsible.
He’s very scent oriented, he’s for sure in love with the smell of the newborn. It’s a smell we all love so for Benny he’s in doggie heaven. Good job keeping him grounded while he’s excited.
Benny was very good and gentle. He was just very excited to see you. He seemed very curious in the baby as any dog would be. They will grow up to be best friends.
It's obvious that Benny means well, it's just that he's sooo big and excited. I was a nervous wreck watching, but Benny is already learning the rules. It's all so brand new to him.

Just a tip, don't hype up your dog in these situations either, i.e. the "Hi buddy. Hi. Yeah!" like seen in this video. The dog already trusts you, no need to make them more excited. Stay calm, pet your dog, use your body language instead. Just my opinion
Congrats guys. I can see Benny loves him once he sniffed him. He's going to guard that kid like crazy. My Bernes love my nephew and always kept a eye on him.
What a good job these nice parents did with introducing the dog to the baby. My daughter and her husband did the same thing. They had three dogs and they all accepted the ‘new baby’ - their son who has never known a day without dogs. Well done!
My Bernie Kodi is so awesome with my grandchildren he is like a babysitter watches them like a hawk ! He wants to be where the kids are but when they were this little he would lay right near them like he was on guard duty alerting us when they cried . And with our 5 grand children their ages ranging from 10 to 5 months old he is different with each one he knows to be more gentle with the little ones but knows he can play tug of war with the older ones but still not as hard as he would want to play with an adult it’s amazing to see him this way … so Bennie is gone to be a good big brother

He can really make those distinctions between your grandkids? Remarkable. I don’t much about dogs but there are clearly breeds much better with little kids than others.

Sometimes when I took my dog out for his walk, we would run into a neighbor with a Bernese Mountain dog named 'Alpine.' When ever they or we rounded a corner to see they were out too, Alpine would be so happy to see us he acted like a giant puppy. Such a great dog!
When my children were young, we used to spend two weeks each summer at a Chateau near Bordeaux that had self catering properties. The French owners had a big Bernese mountain dog. Whenever my children would go for a walk around the chateau grounds, the dog would appear and walk or sit with them wherever they went. He was such a gentle giant.

My dad told me our first bullmastiff was very happy when I came home from the hospital for the first time. Apparently she had a wide smile on her face when she saw me as a baby. Bullmastiffs, like Berneses, are very kid friendly although that doesn’t mean you can’t leave a child unsupervised. They still are a big dog breed.
The fact that your newborn human son just slept through the entire thing shows how chill you were during your pregnancy. Congrats to you all! Great job Bennie!!! You’re a great big brother.
Berners are just so incredibly handsome dogs! And the only two that I have ever known were wonderfully gentle and sweet. That baby will get to grow up with a playmate and a protector.

After I was born, I was taken home to meet my older sister; a 7 month old dachshund named Brunhilde. I was in my stroller ( they were quite large in the ‘50s); she stood on the arm of the armchair, leaned over , sniffed & sniffed & SNIFFED… I wish you all the joy that we had!

I always love these dogs meet babies videoes cause you can always really tell how they go straight into pack modus. It's like, human pupper, must protec, I safeguard smollest being in pack. Like one second he is like crazy and happy, and then its like, BABY, must calm downs
This is one bueautiful, sunny dog, and has a lovely coat too!.. To stop the dog jumping up, ignore him when you come home - no eye contact - and wait until you can see him sit down, looking a bit bored. He has to go down into a relaxed sit or lying position. This means he has accepted you as his leader, and he will stop jumping up. If a dog jumps up at you, it is a protective guarding behaviour, and it only happens when you have not communicated to him that you are the leader.
I'm 65+ years old and it never ceases to amaze me how dogs just know how to act with newborns and infants. Every dog I've had in my life acted the same with kids. This is why God gave us dogs.
How cute! Benny reminds me of the time, eleven years ago, when my daughter brought her new baby home from the hospital. One of our dogs in particular was very interested in the baby and had to be everywhere he was. When I rocked him, she somehow crammed herself on my lap so she could be near him. She would sniff him and give him kisses. It was so cute. She did this until the baby became old enough to pull her dachshund ears. He was no longer fun. Now he and she are friends again.
