    I repotted a maple last year as I tried to rescue it, as it was growing too close to our fence last year. So hopefully it will be ok this year. This is helpful information. This year I hope to have some cherry blossom trees.

    Hello Jerome, nice video on the basics for maples.
    How is your 'Japanese maple forest from cuttings' doing that you made last spring?
    I was sceptical but you seem like you've had success with them before as large cuttings.

    Another great video! I recently bare rooted my Japanese maple and planted it in a all bonsai mix. This is the first time I did that and I noticed the new leaves were wilting before they fully opened. Should I be watering every day here in Atlanta even though it’s not hot every day?

    • @WeareTheBonsaiSupply
      @WeareTheBonsaiSupply  Год назад +4

      Once the tree starts to push actively don't let it dry out. I check mine several times a day.

    People in colder regions, if you can't grow 'Japanese maples' because you're colder than zone 5, try 'Amur maples' they're cold hardy to zone 3!
    I've even seen it listed at zone 2 a time or two.

    I live in North Carolina zone 7b. I have 2 larger Red Maples (2" dia. at the nebari) I want to harvest this spring. Should I take them before the leaves come out or wait until they have started to open?

    • @WeareTheBonsaiSupply

      Harvest them from the ground? I would do it once the leaves start to be more noticeable, past the bud break.

      @@thenaturecreater8906 When deciduous trees go dormant, they sleep like in the winter but much shorter. Removing the leaves will redistribute the energy more evenly throughout the tree, and you get more tertiary branches, which will help build ramifications. Since you remove all the leaves, you can see the full canopy, allowing you to detail trim and wire again. So it does not weaken the tree; in fact, it strengthens the trees.
