I agree with all you found. There were 2 smaller washers for the axle that go on before the nut. They really need to update the assembly instructions and put a good video out on it. It is annoying to look at the instructions and not get the right information. Ratcheting wrenches help if you have them.
Sorry to hear about your heart so glad you are doing better. I have afib myself. I have the same unit but thankfully we haven't had any outages to deal with. Generator is just peace of mind. I'm having an electrician come by in the next few days to install an inlet box and an interlock kit
Do Not Buy these DuraMax Generators, there junk won’t run half the time, back fires bad. When they work there strong. I have the exact same one starts and turns off after applying any kind of load. Brought it to Duro Max Repair center and according to them they’re junk. They said a lot want even start out of the box. Show up with missing parts and could take several months to get parts. I was so proud of this purchase, this was not commits I wanted to hear after paying 1800.00 for this. 204hrs only 2yrs old running off 200 gal propane. Still waiting too hear from repair shop.
