Way back in the 80's in Ft Worth TX, my umping partner at home plate was hit like this. Oh man! When the smoke cleared, arrest warrants were issued for the pitcher, the catcher, and the coach. Aggravated assault. They all pleaded out to lesser misdemeanors. I had already transferred to Alaska but the umpire union had promised to pay my airfare and lodging to come back and testify if it went to trial.
The actions of the catcher were borderline criminal. That ball could have hit the umpire in the groin area and could have seriously hurt the umpire, especially without an athletic protector.

The pitches in the dirt were the setup for hitting the umpire, not the reason for hitting the umpire. This was retaliation of something earlier in the game.
Baseball is not boring. Did you consider that perhaps the hitter is waiting for the first strike? It is strategy. Do you know if the pitcher walked the prior hitter and was on a wildness streak?

Take pitches that don't look good to you, but swing hard on good looking pitches and go up to bat with the mindset of being excited to swing. I see so many people get afraid to swing when they go up to bat. The pitcher should throw strikes. The bat should swing hard. And the ball should be in play. That is fun baseball to watch.

Umpire owned that pitcher/catcher…..he shoulda called time out and admonished both of them by sayin’ “kid you can’t break glass with that chicken wing, do you really think that would hurt me?” “When you get a real arm, let me know, btw throw the ball in the zone if you want a strike call”. Then ejected the coach, it was obviously a called pitch.
Ball was still in play as a live ball, as soon as runner stopped his advance and pitcher took the mound the play was over which is immediately when he signals the ejection.

Therefore, there is no justifiable reason to suspend them.
That was absolutely intentional. As a former player I know the look. As an umpire I know the look. I did not see the pitchers eyes. I'm just glad that umpire didn't punch that coach in the face.

I would say throw the catcher and maybe manager. You have no idea if t he pitcher was doing it intentionally. From the bad angle I would say the pitch wasn't a horrible pitch just the catcher leaving it to hit the ump.
This is why it is not a bad idea for PU s to be congenial with the catchers from the start of the game, unlike what a lot of HS trainers tell new umpires. You hear nonsense, like "They are not our friends, we are only here to call the game" or "I don't have time for that" etc...
The catcher wasn't bad, made it look like he was getting crossed up. IE: expecting a breaking ball(going to block it, low and right) and getting a fastball. Probably was on purpose. The catcher/umpire relationship is a great thing, screw over the person protecting you from the pitches, you might get this. One of those unwritten rules. Bad calls happen, but if you're make those bad calls over and over, watch out for this.
Such actions among children should never be tolerated. As far as "being crossed-up", the pitches as this level should never be so fast that a catcher does not have time to react to the sudden change in the direction of the ball.
