    Here's a (somewhat debatable) tier list of the UK's Russell Group Universities! Comment if you attend any of these universities and if you agree with the rankings. If you don't agree, let me know where you'd place some of the universities mentioned in this video
    Let me know also if you'd like to see more tier list videos, for example ranking the most popular degrees in the UK 👇

    I did my undergrad and masters at Cambridge and Imperial, respectively. Now I'm doing my PhD at Manchester and I definitely agree with you with Manchester being definitely up there. I think Manchester is often looked down upon because they give so many offers and take in so many students. Well this is because the uni is absolutely massive. They're not really selective when you compare to Cambridge or Imperial. But in terms of research, it is basically on par with oxbridge and imperial in my opinion.

    • @robertdenero2024
      @robertdenero2024 2 года назад +14

      Tbh I’m not sure why people would have that perception about Manchester’s acceptance being high. It’s quite the opposite. If people look at the UCAS data, their offer and acceptance rates are one of the lowest in the Uk. As you rightly said if people look at it as a figure, rather than a percentage, this may be where the confusions at. They typically receive more applications than any other uni in the country.

      @@justinlin5454 hi mate. sorry I'm late. just saw your comments. congrats in getting your offer from Durham! Durham is a good university in my opinion. Although I feel like Durham is trying too hard to be like Oxbridge sometimes with their collegiate system. I've been there to visit once, it's a nice little old looking town. But there's not a lot to do there. not many shops or restaurants or nightlife. if you want those things you would have to hop on a 30 min train to Newcastle which is a lively and vibrant city (I've been there as well and it's a great city!).
      Apart from that, I think you can never go wrong with Durham. It's just to me, the location can get quite dull and boring. it's nice to visit, but I don't think I would want to live there for 3-4 years. 😅

    I have to share this: I am going to Durham in September and I did quite a lot of research and have also been there and have contact to current students. Durham is an excellent uni and not in the middle of nowhere. The nightlife is really good, and if you want even more: Newcastle is 12 minutes by train. I actually took the train from Exeter to Durham last month and it was quite alright. Of course it is long, but the trains are really good and it was not exhausting or anything like that at all.
    The city itself is small, yes, but that has the advantage that you get to know many people and really have a community feel. And it is one of the most beautiful cities I have ever visited. Quite sad that it didn’t become City of Culture 2025.
    But overall, it is really great and I have a good feeling about it!

      I have the feeling that he - no offence - doesn‘t know for sure about many cities‘ locations. He seems to have a feeling about the uni and the location, but some unis are much better located than he states. For example, Durham is supposed to be in “the middle of nowhere“, but it actually is only 10 minutes by train to get to Newcastle and the one night club he talks about is just one of a few.
      I would just take everything someone on the internet says with a grain of salt. It often doesn‘t depict the whole reality and you might end up having the time of your life there.

    Cough Cough
    Tier 1 - Oxbridge, Imperial
    Tier 2 - UCL / LSE / Edinburgh / Warwick / KCL / Manchester / Durham / Bristol
    Tier 3 - Nottingham / Leeds / Birmingham / Exeter / Glasgow / Sheffield / Southampton / York
    Tier 4 - Queen Mary / Newcastle / Cardiff / Queen Uni Belfast / Liverpool
    at the end of the day, they are all Russel group institutions and its the industry, social, and network experiences that truly counts other than your degree.

    • @bestofthebest9419
      @bestofthebest9419 2 года назад +15

      I think LSE should be in tier 1 - maybe with UCL too. But I think LSE defo should be tier 1 cuz its a specialist institution like imperial so it is best at what it teaches (just like ICL). But considering that STEM has better career prospects, you could argue imperial above LSE. But LSE should be tier 1 for sure. But LSE also has produced many alumnis leading the world (mostly politicians eww), so it deserves tier 1.

    • @bestofthebest9419
      @bestofthebest9419 2 года назад +4

      @@johnmanalo1330 I don't think Imperial also is not in the same conversations with Oxbridge as well. But many people do seem to put ICL and LSE together for being best at what they teach. There are some people who put LSE over imperial and vice versa. I believe that LSE's international reputation is at least as good as Imperial tho (70 percent international students). For those who want to study social sciences in the UK or anywhere else, LSE will always be one of their top options - it is the only best specialist university that only specialises in social sciences. Science Po is a social science institution that comes after LSE I think - but its never heard by anyone. Then there is MIT which is US specialist institution for STEM , which I would say is more highly ranked than Imperial - but Imperial also would be one of the top options for STEM lovers. In this way, we shouldn't say STEM is better than Social sciences in terms of career prospects so Imperial is better than LSE. If they want to study social sciences, they would always apply to LSE instead of Imperial - for them LSE is better. For Stem applicants, Imperial is better than LSE. So for prestige and reputation wise, I think it should be LSE/Imperial or Imperial/LSE. UCL is all-round university like Oxbridge, but just looking at the admission rate/offer rate it seems to be less competitive compared to LSE and Imperial. Also LSE and Imperial are specialist institutions with strict admissions compared to UCL - if i were to apply for social sciences/STEM I would realistically firms LSE/ICL over UCL.

We spent the whole half term holiday crisscrossing the country visiting possible Uni destinations for our son. He is scheduled to start Uni next Sept/2023. I know it’s not part of Russel Group, but according to Salary Survey UK 2022, Bath Graduates (Undergrad Degree in Business & Management) have received one of the highest salary offers from employers. Another thing, I like Sheffield,…..great Uni, great City. Lastly, I agree with you on Nottingham. Our impression is that, “Its hay days” are in the past, and it’s now on the decline trajectory. There are 27,000 universities in the world. This year Leeds University is ranked at 86 the QS international tables which brings it within the top one third of one percent of world universities.. It is of course a Russell group university. The top 100 employers in the UK (ie The High Flyers' report which is viewable online) ) publish an annual ranking of the 20 universities whose graduates they favour most. In the real world this counts for quite a lot more than the often baffling and sometimes downright bizarre national rankings that appear in publications like the Times and the Guardian (Lancaster and Loughborough universities were consistently placed as top ten universities in the Times national rankings???!!! You have got to be kidding!!!).
    For 2022 the High Flyers' list places Leeds at number 5. Cambridge is ranked at number 7 and Oxford is ranked at number 10.
    Leeds is the wealthiest city in the north of England with upmarket shops, restaurants and cafes. The university has an embracing and safe feeling campus 10 minutes walk from the thriving city centre. On and around the campus there is some lovely architecture and a buzzing social scene.
    Of the UK's 120 universities Leeds falls consistently within the top three for the number of applicants. With an impressive international standing for the quality of its research and a first rate social scene Leeds will always be a serious choice for a great many academically gifted undergraduates and postgraduates.

Manchester is presumably secondary target. In this way or either, it proves that warwick, at least competes better than Manchester inside the UK. But globally wise, Manchester is better than Warwick my slightly - but that slight difference enployers wouldn't care about. If you feel that one of the unis or cities is the one that you could feel particular well in, then you should go for that one.
      I know this sounds like the typical thing everyone would say but I think this is the best advice. Just go for what YOU think might be good. And if you, for whatever reason, feel like you made a wrong decision, there’s still time to change it later. Good luck!

Subject specific rankings are more valuable because they are related to the department you are applying for. Some unis may be top 10 for life Sciences but in overall rankings they are barely in the top 30 (for example), what this means is that the department for life sciences is one of the best in the country.

It is only in domestic rankings by the Sunday Times and Guardian where it falls short. But to counter that, it performs well in the Complete Uni Guide. So, in fact, you would have to cherry-pick in order to not make Manchester a top uni.

      You could study dentistry at some unknown Uni and get the same job as someone who studied at Kings. So healthcare degrees are irrelevant when judging a Uni.

    I am planning to do MSc in Aerospace Structures and Materials at Queen Mary. Do you think, I will make good decision to study at Queen Mary for my Masters? I am unsure right now. I have also offer from Cranfield University in MSc Advanced lightweight and composite structures. I have to make a decision between Cranfield and Queen Mary for my Masters. Which one would you recommend me? I wanted to study in a big city like London but I also care about the quality of education and the career opportunities.

      @@sauravnagrale3544 I think, I will go for Queen Mary because I believe that Cranfield will not offer me good job opportunities. It is not in a Russel Group and its name not even heard. I believe Cranfield is not prestigous too. Cranfield is located in a village. Therefore, there will be no good connections with companies. On the other hand, Queen Mary is in London and member of prestigious Russel Group. London offers many opportunities too. It will be definitely great experience to study in London.

    I agreed with the leaugue table till you put Manchester (i am really enjoying your RUclips Channel btw lol subscribed too). I would have always thought that Manchester is in the second tier but slightly more reputative than Bristol but not as prestigious as Warwick. You said one of the reason is because Manchester is top 5th or 6th locally and top 30 internationally. I belive that this is the case for UCL, Edinburgh too. UCl internationally is like top 10 and locally it is similar to Manchester in the leaugue tables...
    I just think university of manchester is not as prestigious as the other 4... but probably in the 2nd tier. For me it would be
    Tier 1: the top 4
    Tier 2 (in chronological order): Warwick/Durham/UCL, Manchester/Edinburgh, Bristol...
    Hope you are not offended... this is just my thought. But your channel is very accurate compared to the others (for sure). Have a good Christmas man^^

      What do you think of university of liverpool?

    • @kimieee7871
      @kimieee7871 2 года назад +3

      @@kevinTRQ My answer will be biased as my knowledge about University of Liverpool is quite limited. However, I can surely say that is is a good university with decent reputation. Firstly, Liverpool is a great city to live in! It's courses like Medicine, Dentistry, Vet Sci and health related science are quite reputative, though, I would say that university of liverpool is below average in the russell universities rank. After having been established my own university league table in my first comment up to University of Bristol, I might as well continue to see where University of Liverpool lies. University of Bristol is, in my opinion, on par with King's college London (perhaps Kings is globally more reputable, but locally on par). Also locally, universities like University of Bath, Exeter compete well with Bristol, whilst globally, University of Bristol is more reputable. Below these universities, there might be universities like (in non-chronological order) university of Bath, Southampton, Glasgow, Birmingham, Leeds, Sheffield, St Andrew, Nottigham, Queen Mary, Lancaster. Then After all these, I think it is university of Liverpool just in terms of reputation. Liverpool has better reputation than, I would say Loughborough, University of York, UEA, Herriot Watt, Essex, Dundee, Swansea, Surrey, Aston, Kent. Liverpool is maybe on par with Cardiff and Newcastle (maybe). In terms of reputation of university in the UK this is what I think. But again, University rank does not matter unless it is like top 10 university. This is because university reputation is about the same after top 10 (or arguably top15) if it is russell. This means that you need to look more into courses and which university is stronger at which course etc.
