      And it literally took 1\100th the work shown in this video.
      In my hometown we go river lobster fishing with spears made out of car antennas, and a spear gun made of PVC pipe, elastic tubing and cotton rope\twine.

I seriously doubt any of you armchair bob Vilas could pull this off. I do finish carpentry which is a craft in itself and I don't think I could manage this but would love to give it a go.

    I would use threaded ones

    • @jarodmorris4408
      @jarodmorris4408 Месяц назад

      Bending over the rods to act as a u bolt will put considerable tension on the tube. If shot correctly, there should be very little stress put on the tube. If the bent u bolt starts to loosen, they can easily be bent back down and they look better than threaded rod.

    Love the concept and design. A little confused on the tool usage though. Didn't he use tools for some work, then use different tools for steps that could have been better accomplished with the first tools? A good example being steps with bulk material removal that could have made use of his saw then finished with the precision tools.

    I am a single father who spends time with his son every other week and I try to come up with things him and I could do together in the garage.
    This project looks perfect as I believe I have a spare price of Mahogany, nuts, bolts, screws and tools to match.
    Do you have by chance instructions on how to build this? Or say dimensions or templates of some sort? I realize this is a simple contraption but as with many things I build I love to work off of drawings, instructions or schematics of some sort on paper. I guess it’s just how my brain works.
    Anyways again I appreciate you sharing this. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    If only we could make the projectile smaller, and travel faster - perhaps with more penetration.
    Then make it fire quickly, semi-automatically, if you will - and perhaps expedite the reloading process with the use of pre-loaded containers with ammunition.
    Man, the future's gonna be neat.

    • @RedMephit
      @RedMephit 2 года назад +1

      @@markcurry1168 A gun in a pinch? Yes. The ammunition is a little more involved. You can make a slam-fire shotgun out of plumbing parts, or P.A. Lutty wrote a book on how to make a submachine gun out of hardware store parts. A slingshot or similar would, however, be better suited to a survival situation due to making less noise.

    • @Dies1r4e
      @Dies1r4e Год назад

      @@markcurry1168 yes....and I can load shot shells while cooking and relaxing by a camp fire. gunpowder is literally the only "hard" part and you can make that with a time or store -a lot- of it rather cheaply via a good trip to lowes or home depot. but I counter with can you make THIS in a pinch without a wood working shop? what you can make with simple cordage is a sling, so I do recommend you learn to use one to take small game, its fun and easy to get into.

      Simple quick tip for keeping chisels sharp: super flat and hard surface, slap some 600 grit sandpaper on it. Have some of the paper hanging off the side and trim. Press hard at first for a good burr, alternate sides to remove, pressing lighter and lighter throughout the process, and very lightly at the end of the sharpening. Just make sure you remove all the burr. Takes 1-20 minutes, as long as it's not in terrible shape, depending on how sharp it is when you touch it up.

    I wonder if using the rollers gives it more power like the cams on a compound bow? The more band you can pull the more power the sling shot has. I bet with bigger cams and a heavier duty band he could really crank up the speed of that arrow.

    • @rcfokker1630
      @rcfokker1630 Год назад

      Pretty sure that there is a defined limit for the rate at which elastic contracts ... so, increasing the number of elastic bands may make only a minor difference to the speed of the projectile. What it WILL do is to allow you to shoot a heavier projectile.

    Okay.
    Cute. I'll even go so far as to say effective at close range.

    Can you give some specifics regarding length of shot and ability to stay on target at distance with no fletchings

      Instead of the pipe he could use a whisker biscuit that would allow him to shoot arrows with a fletching.
