Theo Bakelaar, to this man we owe the catch of large numbers of fish, because it was the pioneer who brought the "gold beads" or "beads heads" to the fly tying world in the the eighties and early nineties.
I particularly remember that many "schools" recommended building nymphs without ballast, because they behaved more naturally in the water ... the Beads Heads came to break with that concept and the first reactions were of mistrust besides aesthetically were not accepted for many old school fly tiers. The truth is that trout voted for it with thousands of strikes !! And the gold beads or bead heads earned a privileged place in the fly boxes of millions of fishermen and today are an almost irreplaceable building material in many nymphs and streamers.
This fly, which I used for over 15 years with great success in the rivers of northern Patagonia, is an adapted version of the Biot Stone Theo Bakelaar version.
The music took me back to a Charlie brown episode, very cool video, I'm going to tie it as soon as I pick me up some black biots, tks .
Very nice...... I like how you used the black ribbing and how you tied-in the last two legs. My father was "old school" and never tied-in legs. They mostly tied-in a little 'throat hackle". He told me "when trout are feeding, they're not looking for legs".....
*** The black stone......... one of my favorite nymphs...... Best wishes.
I want to sincerely thank you for taking your time to share your art form with us. I’m deeply inspired by your fly tying.
Yhanks a lot my friend, glad you like it and enjoy the videos. Best regards!

Really nice job. I especially like what you did with the front biot. I'm so happy that even at 75, I learn something new or different. Thanks!

Thanks my friend! best regards!!
Very nice fly. Like the music but like the classical better. Light jazz is always good though. Was that black bear dubbing? It sure looks like the underfur on a Black bear. All the best, Sean
What are you using for the eyes? Great fly, at best these are difficult to tie. I like the fly betters using biots for legs rather than rubber or silicone.
Dab of paint. I use a toothpick to apply.

👍👍🤝
Ruben, thanks for this lovely pattern. I was wondering how you get your biots to stick out like that? I've tied this pattern twice and I can't get the biots to stick out like yours, mine tend to lie flat?
Nicole Lewis hi nícole, the biots have a curve part, look close to notice that side, dont put that part against the hook because that will do what you tell me they do on your flies, please let me know if i explain my self rigth
Ruben, thanks - I understand. Trying this again! :-)
It's getting better. Now the front legs stick out like antennae! LOL!
Nicole Lewis great!!
A strip of mylar over that wing case, hit with uv glue? I like glass beads(red) and flat lead myself. Nice tie.
Thanks buddy
👍👍👍
black broom bristles make awesome legs they bend easy and hold there shape no heat required its great. awesome pattern.
Yes my friend y use it a lot, but the original recipe of this fly is with biots and when you need to go very deep some materials are better than others. Kind regards
I see very good patern
If you pull/stretch a wee bit, the thin skin, before cutting, you will get less waste.
Hi Buddy, yes, thats right, but in this case if i pull to tigth the material could get of the position that i was looking for. Best regards
Fino, Rubén. A nuestro hobby lo están queriendo matar fabricando insectos realistas a nivel industrial. Que los peces den la última palabra.
Gracias enrique, hay de todo para todos
💣

Did Theo Bakelaar introduce bead heads before Roman Moser?

Couldnt see the end...
...
you should've been more vocal it would have been nice to know what you were using
Hi Mike, i speak spanish, so we decide to show and not to speak. The recepy is inthe description. Best regards
I had to watch this with the volume on mute. Jazz is the worst form of music to exist on Earth since we start banging rocks together. Next time if you do need to put music on do blues or cats fighting or babies crying. I can stand those sounds. This abortion of sounds makes me wanted poke holes in my waders and walk into a fast flowing river. 🥴
You can mute the video, is very easy. Best regards
Nice fly music sucks.
Hi Stan, thanks for the fly, regards the music... i speak spanish so thats why we decide tu put music, but you can mute the music any time and put the music you like. Best regards
