The JDM spoiler on the LX is actually an air flow diverter. On a sports car it's meant to hold the rear down using wind downforce, but on SUVs it's purpose is to divert air down behind the rear of the vehicle to get rid of the vacuum that develops behind brick shape of the body.
yea it keeps the back window from getting super dusty as well. a friemd of mine has one that you can flip down for dusty roads and flip up for less drag when your on road
Purchased a 2006 LX470 last year with 36000 miles. Best car I've ever owned. (Yeah, there have been Porsches, Audis, Volvos, you name it.) They will pry the keys for this car out of my cold dead hands. This car had been maintained, was in pristine condition. I am well aware of the potential problem spots. Love it.
A locking centre differential is just to convert an AWD car into a 4WD....i.e in 4WD the power is split 50/50....you can't do that on high traction surfaces, so you need a center differential to allow slip between the front and rear axles when on the road in AWD mode. I dont know why people think "center diff lock" is a feature like a difflock.... it's literally a mechanical requirement to allow the car to switch between AWD and 4WD.
Shopped these for a long time until I decided to go with a gx470. Was able to get newer and less miles for less money with most of the same reliability and off road ability
@@daltonbedore8396 Ive got a 2006 gx470 250km on 33s for sale, did the body mount chop, fender liner, and bumper chop to fit the tires. Replaced the rear air bags with coil springs everything works, center diff works perfectly, 4lo works great. 15kCAD

Dood! You are super knowledgeable on this stuff. Love it! Even the subtle comments about "Y'know, the kids might like the folding seats". Haha, good stuff.
You guys never talk about fuel economy. Here in Australia fuel is expensive. A friend of mine has the Lexus landcruiser 2006 and its a fuel gasler. Mine is 2006 landcruiser Sahara 4.2 TD with tons of power and very similar in terms of luxury and uses a fraction of what he is consuming. I had it since new never had a problem .I pull an off road caravan to go bush every year . Best car ever
That's awesome! And I can't speak on it too much as I usually only have the cars for a few hours... you're better off checking off checking out something like Edmunds for those needs! 🤙🤙

Most ppl always say that these vehicles are built forever and that they are supposed to last 1millon miles. My brother has a car workshop and 15 years of experience. I asked his opinion about a LX470, single owner, flawless condition, with about 250K miles on it. This is what he said: "Those and the land cruisers are really well built, much much better than any other SUV. But all of them fail. I have worked on many, and they have the same mechanical issues and problems, maybe not as frequent, but they have them anyway. But they also have a mayor problem: Parts are expensive, and most of the times Toyota won't sell them, so you have to go to a dealer. And then, be ready to pay 5K+ for a transmission rebuild or ABS system failing, or engine. Those SUV are heavy, and with 250 miles, transmisssons fail, no matter how well made they are. Also engine reaching that miles start making noise. Valve lifters wears off and dealers will charge you 4K + for a job that's 20 + hours" In conclusion, they are great, but when they fail, be ready to spend big money.
Can’t disagree with anything you said here, no car will last forever or not have any problems, certainly when approaching 300k miles. I can say 2 things though. The first is that I know a couple people with over 300k on this platform that have YET to have an issue, and the second is that when you consider the value proposition, these tend to be worth fixing, because they are relatively straight forward machines, and people are less timid about buying a LX or Land Cruiser that may have seen a repair. Otherwise, I generally believe the newer the car, the fewer the miles, and the better the reputation of the make, the better your experience will be lol 😅
As much as I'd love to, there are so many more mechanically qualified people... I'd just say as long as the usual rust and preexisting damage isn't prevalent... then just to make sure the car has been maintained and has new fluids, pads, and rubber if necessary !!
