I love my Akura Box for the Dreamcast. The picture is so crisp, and I don't really notice any lag in the signal. Also, just a note - to fix the issue with the image being shifted, you can fix that by simply turning your TV off for about 2 seconds then back on again while the game is on. You shouldn't need to unplug the HDMI. Great video! :)

Couldn't help noticing you had the PixelFX scaling to 1080p from 480i during the MVC2 section of the video. Scaling to your desired resolution from 480p yields objectively better image quality so I do recommend that. With HW2, you have to set 'Force VGA' instead of 'cable detect' under the 'DCDigital Settings' menu. Unfortunately, 'cable detect' does not automatically select between VGA or interlaced as one might think it would. When you brought the OSD up, you could see "640x480i -> 1440x1080" in the bottom left corner. If you select 'Force VGA', it will show "640x480p -> [whatever output resolution]". I think I'm most blown away, however, when going from 240p -> 1440p. Absolutely gorgeous 6x scale. The only downside to 'Force VGA' is that you have to switch back to 'cable detect' to play the non VGA supported titles. I really think the video mode options should be referred to as 'Force VGA' or 'Interlaced' since the 'cable detect' moniker isn't quite accurate.
Always wanted this system. I emulated it with Retropie on an old thinkpad running unbuntu. Works great even has hdmi out and wireless controllers.
I love this system. I still have a CiB keyboard and Sealed Typing of the dead.

Nice information video on multiple choices for the Dreamcast. Lot's of great games on the Dreamcast. I really liked Carrier on the Dreamcast.
I've got my dreamcast with a clone GDEMU inside with the picopower/battery mod/noctua fan mod that i did myself...yeah its slighty yellowed but I love it to bits, brilliant console IMO 😁
Emulation for me. I can take ReDream with my everywhere. I have a telescopic controller my phone snaps into. Boom. Portable Dreamcast.
I still have mine that I bought years ago from a cool record shop. Sports edition that still works like a top. A very loud top, but still.

One thing when you get into modding some people think that getting a GDEMU or a one like the GDEMU a new shell a memory card with games installed and of course buying a Sega Dreamcast number 0 or 1 shouldn't cost over $500.00 US but it definitely can and if you figure shipping and inflation that is definitely the reason you could just get the least amount of mods and cost over the $500.00 price range before inflation the Dreamcast with the smallest amount of mods cost between $250.00 to $350.00 US.

When I was at RetroWorld Expo I seriously considered buying one. One of the vendors had it for $150 (a black one) but I decided to wait. The reason I want one that still plays disk as opposed to the SD card option is because some are still making games for it. Although it would be nice if Sega puts out a Dreamcast mini one day. Oh hell if Hyperkin or any other clone console company put out one.

I’d say the cheapest of all is get a used console for a good price and a pack of blank cds IF you want to play on original hardware

As much as I love my GDEMU and Terraonion MODE in my 2 dreamcasts, I miss that disc read grind noise.

I bought my most recent Dreamcast (a year ago) at a yard sale. Went all in for $55 if I remember right. Came with about 13 games with one not working. The only modification I have is an adapter that allows a PS2 controller to connect.

I got Amazon fire 10 11th gen full DC list USA UK and atomiswave more runs really well shemo works really well and a telescope pad it's like a big hand held it only cost 40£ and my time n net really happy with it

I’d recommend putting off buying a terraonion Mode until they fix the downloads from the support page on their website. Its been down for more than a month now.
If getting one from StoneAge Gamer they have it loaded with the latest firmware and cover database. But yes its annoying as heck that Terraonion cant fix their site or even really acknowledge it. This has been a problem for months now.

It was one of the last games machines before I stopped playing games. I played again I would still use disc.
I received my modded Dreamcast from SAG this week. Only had one issue and that was that the M.2 hard drive that I received was not initially formatted to exFat so no games were being seen. Once I reformatted the M.2 properly, everything worked as it should. TIP: Make sure that the option to adjust to region free is checked ON!
I was able to put the entire DC library on a 1TB M.2 SSD.
NOTE: For those just finding this video now, MLP's DC build is referencing the build which included the DC Digital HW2. SAG does NOT have access to the HW2 any longer. SAG only has access to the DC Digital HW1 (the older version, and 'while supplies last' is what I was told). The HW1 does not have the additional options for scanlines etc... No one seems to know if the HW2 will ever be offered or if DC Digital has a third version in the works.
The Dreamcast DC Digital kits are replaced by the Retro GEM HDMI kit... which has paid DLC to unlock features lol... Im glad I have what I have in my system lol.
How ever u play the game is how u play the game I do both emulate and real hardware with copy games lol ;)

I play on original hardware. And raspberry pi. But i cant seem to find an adapter for the dreamcast controller to work on a pi. Any recommendations?
Raphnet is the only one that I know that makes one. However I'm pretty sure it isn't natively supported by Pi. You might be able to add support like some us of did for the Neo Geo X controllers.
I wanted to checkout a Dreamcast. The system is not too expensive but its the games that will drain your wallet. I have most of the DC re-releases on Steam or what not. If I really wanted one, I would get the built one from Stoneage gamer. Over the past year, I have modded a few GameCubes, fully refurbished a GBA and GBC with IPS screens and all bells and whistles, just finished an XBOX Project Stellar and XboxHD+ v2, recapped one, got another to recap and I preordered a Wii HDMI kit. I did not have great tools to do all that. I easily spent $500 plus on soldering iron, hot air gun, desoldering tool, and everything to go with that. I can tell you, there is a huge difference between a cheap $30-40 soldering iron vs a rework station with precise temp control. If you only want to go with one to two systems, spending the extra money to get a prebuilt is worth it. Actually, if you can find a reputable ebayer that sells pre-modded GBA and GBCs for a good price and you don't already have the handheld, go with the ebay option. The GBA and GBC I modded pretty much all came from RetroRepairShop. The GBC I modded was for my nephew. I bought a modded GBC for maybe $40 more that the price of doing one myself and it came in the same box RetroRepairShop ships their parts in. Its got the DMG style look, FunnyPlaying screen, and I love it.
Nobody ever talks about the Open Source Scan Converter anymore, but it is still a great option to convert your
Image to hdmi. It also has upscaling up
to 5x native resolution. I use it for my consolized NeoGeo and it works great!
It costs a jillion bucks.

I own and like the Beharbros Akura. But stopped using it due to every time I load a new game the on-screen image skews and goes off-centre (partially off the tv screen). I think this is a known issue, but it bugged me enough just to buy a Hyperkin HDMI cable and run that instead
