This reminds me of the mid 00's, when music changed for us. We went from Albums, and music controlled by the labels, radio, etc., to now being digested on Spotify, Soundcloud, RUclips, and now every artist Major/Minor just releases Singles daily/weekly, there's so much content you can hardly take time to digest a song, before the next one is out.
Podcasts, and sports coverage. Is it better? In some ways it is, in many it's just quantity of quality.

It is all a residual effect of the digitalization of media and society in general. Every industry has a bunch of high level companies and corporations that have switched to focusing on quantity over quality when decades of traditional practices preached the opposite, so it’s a weird sudden jump from one end of the spectrum to the other. We’ll balance back out eventually but we’re just in one end of the extreme right now. Like this shit was so sudden we’ve switched to streaming as our primary way of accessing media and we still haven’t even established a standard of what a stream is worth yet.

That Jalen & Jacoby reference is so true. Just like how Pardon the Interruption with Wilbon and Kornheiser birthed a generation of sport debate shows of two guys just yelling at each other.
You can say this with just the podcast space in general. There’s too many morons with microphones that sit out on a couch and spew whatever comes to their mind. And that dilutes the significance from the truly great ones that are both entertaining and informative.
And especially when some athletes that have money, influence and surrounded by yes men that won’t tell them the truth that what they’re doing is bad.

There is bias in all media, including mainstream. Fox News and MSNBC are politically biased in their coverage, and ESPN and FS1 are biased by only covering a small percentage of sports and players, even when they’re decreasingly relevant on the playing field/court (why so much coverage of the 6th, 9th and 10th seeded Suns, Lakers and Warriors?).

Yep and with the democratization of sports (availability of stats and clips, etc), even amateurs (people with day jobs) and fans are also proviving they can break down the game and provide analysis at a level better than some so-called sports journos can. The real reason why sports journos were big was because of limited access and gatekeeping (i.e. you usually had to go to school get a degree, work as a beat reporter, etc.). Now because of RUclips and podcasts, you don't need to.
If I want analysis, I don't need to go to the sports journos anymore. Sports journos are basically entertaninment reporters. Amateur movie critics are bigger than many professional critics it was only a matter of time lol The athletes can prodvide that behind-the-scenes stuff that no journo or fan can have and that's their value.

Bingo, you hit the nail on the head.😊
Almost every athlete has a podcast.
I noticed, a black player finds a white person, I guess to do what he cannot do, that is run a podcast😅
I have been complaining about the bad content, and the unprofessional way these podcasts are presented to us the viewers.
Then some other podcasts objective is to take other people's content and talk about it, and ask viewers to comment. Please!
We have a lot of followers, not many leaders, not many business people either.
Let's face it, most players did not have time for school, or even to take a business course,
I have been unsubscribing to all of them.
Another big problem, these athletes don't understand that podcasts are on the world wide net.
Most countries have access, not all countries approve of language like MF and FK on a public forum.
It is about being professional, attracting viewers, and expanding a business.
My husband and I, have stopped watching All the Smoke, Beverley podcast, and every podcasts with lots of swearing.
Maybe they think it is cool. Well it is not. It just takes away from the podcasts.
It depends on who is the guest, there is no swearing. Strange!
The same Podcaster goes on ESPN or Fox as a guest analyst, and he does not swear.
This is important because not all viewers are 18 to 24 years.
It is a business, yet, there are people in shorts and flip flops.
    There is no Dress Code.
The swearing is distracting, like each person is trying to outdo each other.
    It is embarrassing. 😢
If all the athletes have podcasts, who are their viewers?
I can name at least a dozen current NBA players with podcasts.😊
Then you have the retired NBA players, who did not plan their retirement, so they have podcasts 😅
    The NFL has the same.😅

I love Bomani's take. If all you heard was hate, you didn’t listen fully and/or you don’t understand how to have nuanced conversations. He applauded those who do it well. I watch Cam Newton's content and was the biggest Cam fan as a player. Bomani is correct in that he has the framework for success, but I do wish he would hone in on the craft of storytelling and journalism more. He had a few missed opportunities during the super bowl because he had great guests but didn’t really know how to pull a story out of them.

Ditto radio serial stars talking about how colour TV soap operas will never catch on. They had a great run and that's something to be proud of and they got to capitalize and get rich doing it. But the music is starting to wind down and the lights are dimming on the era of the sports opinionator lol

(Real) Content>presentation regardless. Authenticity>fluff... Presentation can be developed. Rather hear something real than a polished presentation of something surface level which is what a lot of traditional media is.
Bottom line who's creating progressive/ insightful/ and inspiring content that fills voids. And not just gossip and spectating, whether your trained or not.
