7:45 Funny enough, that was actually a thing in Yugioh Duel Links. There was this skill that basically said "If you play these two cards in your deck that you don't want to draw but need for your combo, they always start the game with all copies of those cards at the bottom of your deck and you get this third card that needs those other 2 cards in your deck." What players would do is max out on those 2 cards in decks that don't even care about them just so they effectively start the game with a 14 card deck. They nerfed the skill by removing the part that stacks those cards to the bottom because the consistency boost from playing a 14 card deck was just disgusting.
AF Kay is giving me the same vibes but in the opposite direction of what happened a decade ago in Magic the gathering. Basically the devs thought they were printing an absurdly strong token generator and with that in mind, they gave another seemingly random other card an extra point of toughness and trample. A sort of balancing act to give it a chance against this hypothetically “First Response” token deck. Non of the devs thought anything of this so we’re just as surprised as everyone else when Siege Rhino became the face of Khans of Tarkir standard and just the Meta king of MTG standard for the rest of its time in it. Oh how the butterfly effect rolls on.
7:45 that's what America Chavez was in Marvel Snap, unironically. A card that was always at the bottom of the deck so she ABSOLUTELY counted as a -1 card on an already small 12 card deck. Nowadays they've changed her, though.
The biggest issue with A.F.Kay is that if the card is already on the board, there's almost no reason not to attack with it, unless it dies to a taunt or has 2 attack or less. If it has more than 2 attack, you just lose out on overall damage (i.e. if you attack with a 6 power two turns in a row, you get more damage that attacking once with an 8 power, the discrepancy grows as the power goes up)
Probably why it was nerfed 3/3 makes it to much of a threat since your whole plan is aggro, but on the fly suddenly can choose to play defensively without the need to trade.

If A.F. Kay instead read “When you summon a minion without Rush or Charge, give it +2/+2”. She would be functionally the same in most circumstances and I think the playerbase reaction would have been a lot better even though this version is strictly worse.
how is this version strictly worse? you get minions buffs every turn by playing smart. you can hold off attacking with a weakened minion to make it harder for your board to be cleared. its super strong combined with the healing totem. really limits the kind of board clears that can save your opponent

on shaman if you drop afkay on turn 5 its seems really strong, especially because shaman gets ahead early on board with the overload mechanic and if they dont answer it on turn 5, they most likely loose
I feel like its all psychological, if your enemy underestimates AFK they get caught off guard by her potential buffs, if your enemy focuses her they might give an opnening for your other cards
Rarran I feel so vindicated rn. I was so confused why you said she was awful during your card review because I felt that any class that can summon tokens for cheap (Shaman/DH/Paladin) can synergize so easily by just playing them on the same turn as AF Kay, such as you did with pop up book. I still don't think she's busted (she's okay maybe strong) but her pre-release nerf makes a lot of sense. Thank you for making this lol I was going crazy
Also, any transform effect would let you attack then get buff. Its probably best in unholy DK from how sticky their boards get. Reborn would all get buff if they died too
I've been doing an Arena run where my legendary is A F Kay while watching this funny enough. Another thing to keep in mind with this is Razzle Dazzler. I had a play where Razzle Dazzler gave me 4 5-drops with one of them being A F Kay. After that, since they all were just summoned, all four of em got +2/+2. All for just 7 Mana. That said, that might not be the EXACT Combo that got her nerfed, but if you roll A F Kay with Razzle and you've played even MORE spell schools, then ooooooooooo buddy
this literally just shows how slept on and actually good wave/wish shaman HAS been for about a month. That spell rolls half my games turn 4 or 5. Everyone wants to play druid and warrior tho. Good thing they get rolled by it too
Deck is pretty solid but I’m much more worried about that pirate-token-aggro shaman at the end. Uses similar tools even if afk doesn’t make the cut and gets to slaughter you with pirates

Wel this would just reaffirm what I have been saying forever ....the devs don't like Shaman.Shmn has NEVER had a deck that needed to be nerfed but naytime it gets a deck that could even compete at tier 1 it was nerfed.The worst hero power in game and the worst mechanic ever >>Overload yet they still refuse to ever let Shaman be the best class in the game ...ever.Shaman is the least brought to tourny class and typically at the bottom of ratings every single season. Even when blind melon players thought Shaman had a worthwhile deck to bring to a tourny it performed poorly.The OTHER secondary factor is that IF Shaman gets a decentl ycompetitive deck it was because of neutral cards not the Shaman cards.Look at the recent set and it's supposedly best card "Shudder"I doubt anyone thinks highly of it and don't really care to build decks around it.
I'd prefer if they kept +3/+3 but changed to "buff minions who could attack, but didn't" so there would be a cost to the buff of missing an attack instead of just benefiting from swarming the board and trading buffed minions
I think they should have keept +3/+3 buff but change condition to buff only units that were capable of attacking be buffed (so no sleeping/frozen units or 0 attack units buff)

Meh people playing this game often sleep on decks that could be better with a bit more support. That spell school discount card seems to be very strong for the strategy.
Who is the original idiot that put Wave of Nostalgia into a deck that is intended to abuse AFK? "OH MAN, first I'm going to build up a board of taunt minions! Then, I'll play a 0 attack 5 Mana legendary that buffs all my taunt minions!! And then on the next turn after that, I'm going to play a 5 mana spell that completely replaces all my buffed creatures with a bunch of unbuffed worthless trash!!!" Great gameplan.
If your only wincon is only AFK, you just lose if she’s in the bottom half of the deck without any tutor or extensive card draw. Obviously you aren’t supposed to use Wave of Nostalgia if you _have_ AFK, it’s there to play _instead_ of AFK, if you have the wide board setup cards but not AFK herself.
Tbh I thought her been 5 Mana would make her really hard to use but she seemed fine with this play line can imagine she would be pretty good at 3 Mana.

Now afkay might be a worse win more card than most but it is alright in some very specific decks. (I have no concept of what standard looks like i only play wild and every deck that isnt an OTK is board based so suddenly gaining 12/12 of stats on a wide board in one turn can just win a game)

And it will never gave 12/12. It costs 5 mana and it won't survive a turn so the only way for it to buff anything is to play it on a later turn where boards get cleared instantly.

Grave strength DK is one of the stronger board based win conditions in wild, it does nothing if you dont have a board already in play but it has very sticky minions to pull that off. Just because something (untested) is bad in standard doesnt mean it cant be increadebly strong in the right wild deck.
even after the video i belive afk is very bad the meta will be hyper aggro and maybe some 1 shot otk stuff there is no way u can build a board with those cards vs the removal that is in the game and even a +3/3 wouldnt change that

I just realised that if you get sneeds from wave of nostalgia, it should only be able to generate standard legendaries from the deathrattle, right? So you can't get sneeds from that sneeds?
I think deathrattle and other effects where changed at some point to not include themselves in the pool of possiblities, unless specifically mentioned.

I am gonna say it since HS players seem to have a high level of brain rot. Most token, zoo and control decks can run the card, as long as you find something worth buffing. A very "easy" example is the sandwich warrior. The predictions were made in the vacuum of "no one plays for board" which is simply not true.
It woulda been funny if you'd lost the game starting at 15:05, because it would mean the only thing that can beat the AFK deck is a spell that steals AFK and uses her power against you.

Thats true, it does also get extra health though so it is situational depending on how low the opponent is or what removal options they have

He plays in theory craft server where nobody is trying to be competitive and don't focus on previous expansions cards. Afk will suck in actual game.

She cant be broken. You have to skip your attack to get a buff. Its horrible. Not even mention stats. Its Nat Pagle level of bad

There's no reason for Blizzard to add her to the shop. She's the level 2 award for the reward track (if you have bought the tavern pass)

Most token, zoo and control decks can run the card, as long as you find something worth buffing. A very "easy" example is the sandwich warrior. The predictions were made in the vacuum of "no one plays for board" which is simply not true.
