I mean tbf, the first time I heard about the shimmer I immediately thought about how it could be exploited. I mean, you have a liquid that can de craft items and phase you through blocks. I'm not surprised people broke that almost immediately lol.
I'm surprised there's no mention of that funky glitch involving a bast statue and a door and a campfire that lets you basically give yourself any item in the game, even including developer items that you otherwise wouldn't have access to. Funny thing is, this glitch basically wrecked the previous speedrun WR (with glitches) by i think like 20 minutes because you can just find a world with a dart trap close by spawn, set up the contraption, and give yourself a zenith and just take it straight to moonlord.
He did say he wasnt including all of them, including the more speedrunny ones. The longnamed ass glitch you talking about its a speedrun glitch more than anything else due to the setup it needs being so specific
As long as a game is popular, players will always find ways to break it. By far my favorite glitches are *The Hoik* since you can hoik the lizhard temple blocks by hitting them with a hammer and then get inside of Golem's arena without needing to walk through the whole temple every time and *The Transmutation Glitch* which is quite complicated to explain but you can basically get every single item in the game (as long as you know that item ID number) and a group of people actually posted a world in the Terraria workshop called "Transmute Workshop" which is like a giant computer that allows you to select any item in the game and make it appear.
One thing I noticed you missed was an item duplication glitch back in... sometime late 1.3? I forget some details, but with a chest, some bars, and a couple item frames, you could make a particular setup that would duplicate any stackable item that you had 2 or more of. Infinite stars, infinite ore/bars, infinite money, and more! I'm pretty sure it stuck around all the way until 1.4, in which it was essentially replaced by the Journey mode duplication function but it was definitely fun while it lasted Better off gone tho lol
Other fun glitches include using a grappling hook to move between 1 block vertical spaces so that only you can move through it, I've even seen slimes doing a similar thing.
Does anyone else know about the Vortex Beater glitch? It worked on console in 1.3. You would preset a Vortex Beater to a d-pad button, then a different weapon to a different d-pad button. While shooting the Vortex Beater, you would d-pad quick-select the other weapon, and it would infinitely spawn almost anything constantly until you stopped holding down the "use item" button. It could spawn hundreds of stardust dragon heads or cover your whole screen in magic projectiles. Summons, sentries and fishing were the best uses of it, but it could also be used to super quickly mow through mobs by switching to a gun or bow, and the Solar Flare, Icicle, and Daybreak had some very large potential. My favorite was using it with the Nebula Arcanum to mow through the Old One's army and Razorpine to make it even faster than its previously insane firerate.
I remember the fishing line glitch, that one was fun and birthed my current strategy of stockpiling extra quest fish so I don't have to go out and fish every time
For the console glitch video, you should talk about the glitch where you can spawn in penguins at random blocks in your world with basically any tool. That was highly exploited to get tons of platinum coins.
I don’t believe it was mentioned, but the infinite fishing glitch actually had a ton of other applications, the most impactful of which was that it allowed you to drink healing potions while still on cooldown.
I organically discovered a glitch a few years ago in the console 1.3 days, (probably not the pioneer though lol). When quickswitching from a vortex beater to any weapon/tool that created a projectile, the vortex beater would continue to be used, but all of the bullets would now be the swapped item's projectiles. Me and my friends would use the glitch to shoot hundreds of meowmere heads at the Moon Lord. I forget if it was exclusively a multiplayer feature though. I ended up using it with a golden fishing rod to instantly throw several fishing lines to get Supreme Helper Minion really easily on console! It ended up getting patched a few updates later, maybe 1.3.5?
On console there is a glitch where you place whatever you want in a chest leave the world then rejoin pickup the items out of the chest then die and close the game immediately, rejoin again and check the chest
Transmutation is my MOST FAVORITE glitch in all of gaming . It literally allows you to get any item in the game including the boring bow. I wish you mentioned it in this video.
Yeah this brings me back a lot, huge nostalgia of the 1.1 chest glitch. Looking back I have absolutely no idea how I learned about it but it was a fun time. I had to spend like 5 minutes waiting for the game to load because I had such a horrendous laptop but I was that dedicated to playing Terraria so I guess it makes sense. My addiction must have carried the knowledge seeking lol.
The infinite fishing glitch instantly reminded me of when Yrimir used to fight multiple Duke FIshrons at once, those were the days. I know he left youtube because his addiction to making such high quality videos was ruining his life but I'm still subscribed to his channel both for easy access to some nostalgia and in the small chance he does come back I'll be there in the crowd to welcome him hack.
One of my favourite glitches was the Rope Scan glitch. I won't explain the exact setup but using a couple sloped blocks, some rope and any hook, you could glitch the camera tin infinitely drift left or right (depending on the setup.) This was great for finding caves, floating islands, plantera bulbs, as well as filling out the map (mainly above ground) and some other stuff too.
There was also this glitch that allowed you to be invincible when standing on meteor ore with cross necklace, pretty useful during boss fights. Also I remember back in the day that you could use any consumable, open inventory with auto pause turned on and after clicking on that slot with right click you could get the consumed item back.
I wish they did something about the infinite fishing rod casting glitch, making an accessory allow you to cast 2 instead of 1, or something exclusive like, maybe the golden rod
THIS ONE! I was watching this video trying to remember the glitch I had used back in the day for endless money, and this was it. Oh the fond memories...
My favorite glitch of all time is the vortex beater bug. Have you seen it before? Basically lets you pull out a ridiculous amount of any weapon at once. Hilarious combinations depending on the weapon, and combined with the last prism, the fastest way to drain mana out there. Like, a full stack of max mana potions in 20~ seconds
I loved that glitch because you could use it with minion summons and have infinite stardust dragons or use it with a limited-use weapon such as grenades and it would crash your game when you ran out
Sad you didnt mention liquid duplication. Outlet pumps would commonly produce more liquid than the inlets would take, and this was how it was for a long time. It was acknowledged in the 1.3 update with the visual overhaul to falling liquid but I noticed it didnt work in 1.4. Getting infinite water and lava was useful for selling obsidian skulls for a large profit in pre hardmode.
I remember being able to use healing potions even with potion sickness if you did the infinite fishing glitch with a healing potion in your hand instead.
One i found myself is if you wear full cactus armor, you can still hurt enemies with it while shimmering, allowing you to very quickly kill some bosses.
I've always disagreed with the flower boots + flare combo being nerfed. I get it being nerfed with the multiple hooks glitch, but after that was removed there was not reason to remove the boot flare combo. Gathering bait was always a pain in the neck and I felt clever for finding out about that combo on my own. I didn't even think it was an exploit since I think Hoik's are far more gamebreaking once you know how to do them. Also fishing is less powerful now since you can't get hardmode ores from pre hardmode crates. As fishing grew less powerful, the reason to nerf the boot flare combo went down.
I know you focused on the more prominent glitches but I would be interested in a series covering the various glitches throughout the game's history regardless of how popular they were Anyone else play mobile Terraria when you could blow the temple door up with a bomb? My siblings and I were pretty bad at the game and struggled to kill the WoF, so we killed Golem instead! It took like 20 minutes of dodging while the traps took him out, but yeah the first time I ever beat the WoF was with a Golem Fist...
1 glitch you forgot which was similar to the crystal glitch was using the void monument or statue (i think thats what the item is called) where you would stack 2 teleporters on top of each other and place a void thing on top and get infinite which you could sell for lots of gold and platinum
infinite chest from 1.1 brings back memories. I never played pc back then but i did play mobile back in elementary with my friends and got to use it there since it was so far behind pc update wise
Although less popular, hoik fall damage invulnerability machines are one of my fave exploits. That or the machine that turns off enemy spawning universally.
Speaking of fishing, one exploit that's pretty minor but kept in the game despite being well-known, is putting Quest fish in a chest to get more of them when you can't get more if there's 1 in your inventory. I can imagine plenty of people still trip over this one, if they're not looking it up and they don't feel a need to have a chest on their fishing spot.
I remember back in the day on the console version, there was an amour glitch involving something like adamantite leggings, a hollowed helm, and some other chest piece, not in that order, that enabled the star cannon to have unlimited ammo as long as you had one star. It is almost impossible to find forums that mention it.
Back when mobile was in its 1.2 era, there were two really easy item duplication glitches one could use. The first one involved going into multiplayer. Multiple characters could access a single chest at once, so if both characters looted an item at the same time the game would duplicate it and give one to each character. If it was a stackable item both characters could then deposit it back in the chest, and repeating the glitch would duplicate the whole stack, so your returns would increase exponentially each time you did it. The glitch was really practical for things like Ocram boss spawners, which were a pain to amass a lot of. The second method involved uploading your character or world to the cloud and then saving it back to your device. You would have a second copy of your character/world with all of the same items, so you could just take what you needed and then delete the copy. This method took much longer than the other one, making it for the most part pretty impractical, but it didn’t require a friend or second device.
I know about every glitches ! I feel like an accomplish terrarian, but, you missed one glitch that i loved 12 years ago, you can put a door underwater, and by spamming close/open you can drain the water pretty quickly. I remember going underground with my little door when i was 11 years old... The memories !
i remember there was a different glitch similar to the fishing glitch where you could shoot out something like a flairon with a vortex beater. this flairon would also shoot out the bubbles and it dealt several tens of thousands of dps per second. this was sadly patched at the same time when they patched the fishing glitch. it has been so long that i sadly forgot the method but i do remember it was 1.3
Years ago on console I used to get this strange glitch quite often where I would swing a big net and if I continuously held it down, truffle worms would spawn from it. I used it to farm fishron and have basically endless money. I haven’t seen it anywhere else before.
I'm surprised you didn't mention the "philosopher's stone" glitch (which annoyingly has nothing to do with the item of the same name lol), it let you get *any* item in the game an infinite amount of times, not sure if it's been patched though great vid nonetheless! I use that crystal shard dupe glitch way more than I'd like to admit lol
It hasn't been patched yet. Its base form will be next update, but it's still unclear if this will affect already set up glitches like the transmutation workshop
Current meta is the Bast statue/campfire glitch, that lets you get any item in pre-hardmode, and also grants limited invincibility. It's a bit technical to set up but is used by speedrunners in glitch runs
I remember when the pumpkin moon was first added, it didn't have a music box yet, so if you tried to record it, the music box morphed into an ankh charm
You missed a few that were on the mobile Version 1. if two players took an item out of a chest at the same time they would both get the item doubling it 2. item frame glitch had several steps involving iron bars, work bench, chests and left you with two item frames stacked on top of each other and if you put an item in the top one it would give double - 1 so you could duplicate anything that could be stacked leading to thousands of platinum coins, desert fossils and crafting materials
I remember finding a bug when the Coin Gun was introduced. They gave coins a damage value like arrows, but you could swing them like a sword, dealing damage without the gun!
i remember using a glitch somewhere around 1.2 i guess, which allowes you to duplicate bars. I think that all u had to do was equip extendo grip and with it it was possible to put bars on the floor and it didn't disappear from inventory
I think around 1.1 there was also a glitch that allowed you to quick trash items and still use them to craft giving you one free ingredient for any recipe
As somewhat of a game developer myself, I've always prefer to play games sort of "as intended" because I think it's really cool what developers put so much time into crafting, and the thought and effort that goes into balancing stuff a certain way. I find that I enjoy the experience a lot more when I acknowledge those because the way the game was designed was designed with those limitations in mind so it usually ends up better. Of course this isn't to say that other people playing it differently are wrong, some people really enjoy breaking stuff and they find it funny or what else and that's totally fun and cool. But it still felt nice to hear chippy say that these things are best enjoyed short-term because I do enjoy putting effort into things and I do enjoy seeing the experiences that get made and enjoyed, and I appreciate the respect given by not complaining necessarily when something is patched out. Of course some things are fun to have and nice to have long-term, and that's why it's also so great that there's a modding community. If there's something you wanted, one can just get it through a different means, the vanilla experience is the baby of the devs.
You can also duplicate the Old One's Army altar by actuating the blocks wher it's placed One will fall and another one will stay in play I found that one recently while trying to make something to make the event a bit easier for me
I remember long ago when terraria mobile was stuck with 1.2 it allowed you to copy a world for a backup, so I'd just backup my world and grab all my bars from my valuables chest ad infinitum, it was nice because it basically was a diet journey mode at the time, helping reduce some grinding
The infinite fishing glitch will by far be my favorite. Also just cuz I remember who I used to watch for Terraria back in the day. I believe it was pedguin and formerly known as Terraria help, "Edward". :)
It is fun to see how the gameplay influence the community and it's reactions. By being a non-competitive game (mostly), glitches and exploits don't give the player a advantage above others. Most of the time, they will get a lot of rewources or access to things way earlier than intended. That's why I see that Terraria community is relexed by the existence of glitches, what other genres would cause a outrage.
Man I can't remember how we did it now, or if it was multiplayer exclusive, but i remember in 1.1 i learned of a way to duplicate money via crafting. I think it was something to do with crafting it while also being in a chest or something. Ah, times long past... these days i play expert and have no need to dupe money, i make plenty of it
I remember being able to place a stack of 100 coins in the inventory trash slot and it would allow you to craft the next tier coin, but the stack would stay in the trash slot, so you could infinitely craft money. I think it was in 1.1.
Me and my brother used to play terraria together on mobile when we were younger. We accidentally did some sort of infinite house glitch and couldn’t work out how to talk to any specific NPCs XD
In the old mobile version, you could duplicate any item if you had friends. You just had to open the same chest, and then grab the same item at the same time.
There's secret in terraria you miss that! if you get quaset from angler there's chance to give you clow fish quaset and he said he lost her family and the fish is look like a Nemo fish!
What's weird about the infinite fishing glitch is that a very similar bug was present on console as well (I don't remember which version, but this was around 5+ years ago). IIRC you would still only get one fish out of it though, unlike the pc version of the bug.
I dont know if it counts because i only used this "glitch" on the Switch version but what about the duplication glitch where you can easily dupe every single item within seconds while just using a chest? This still works since many versions of the game. You need to put the items you want to dupe in a chest, safe and close the game. Go back in the game to your chest and put everything back in your inventory. Then safe the game and close it immediately (when the world saved like 50%). Go back in the game and you should have the same amount of items in the chest AND your inventory. But if you want to use it you should do it on a seperate world because it can harm your world file.
I haven't played Terraria in a long time but I remember in one of the old versions, if you tried to place a light switch on a door it would get duplicated. I sold those for profit. This one's not a glitch, I used to make a copy of the game world stored in "My Documents" or something and constantly visit that world to get stars I had stored in my chest in order to defeat wall of flesh with the star cannon. I'm not sure if it's still possible to do that in today's terraria.
In Terraria 1.2 I had the game set in Italian and sometimes it could happend that you lose your item when refining it. For some reasons it occured 0 times after i set my game back in English!
I’m surprised transmutation wasn’t covered here. I don’t mean shimmer btw. There’s a really tedious but overpowered exploit using bast statues, campfires, doors, and torches to get any item in the game before fighting a single boss.
The sheer speed the shimmer exploit was discovered just shows the goofiness of the terraria community.
The sheer speed at which it was patched is on a whole another level though.
@@lovelypanda8676 The community will never be on-par with patches.
I mean tbf, the first time I heard about the shimmer I immediately thought about how it could be exploited. I mean, you have a liquid that can de craft items and phase you through blocks. I'm not surprised people broke that almost immediately lol.

I'm surprised you didn't mention the "philosopher's stone" glitch (which annoyingly has nothing to do with the item of the same name lol), it let you get *any* item in the game an infinite amount of times, not sure if it's been patched though
great vid nonetheless!
The community is great at discovering all these glitches. I love watching how broken things could become.
I remember when the pumpkin moon was first added, it didn't have a music box yet, so if you tried to record it, the music box morphed into an ankh charm
You missed a few that were on the mobile Version
1. if two players took an item out of a chest at the same time they would both get the item doubling it
2. item frame glitch had several steps involving iron bars, work bench, chests and left you with two item frames stacked on top of each other and if you put an item in the top one it would give double - 1 so you could duplicate anything that could be stacked leading to thousands of platinum coins, desert fossils and crafting materials
Does anyone else remember the item frame item duplication glitch. I absolutely abused that glitch early on in the game.
Those were the days man.
The 1.1 chest glitch is so nostalgic, i remember searching a tutorial for it
I see this while watching a guy making a game with intentional glitches
You can also duplicate the Old One's Army altar by actuating the blocks wher it's placed
One will fall and another one will stay in play
I found that one recently while trying to make something to make the event a bit easier for me
I remember long ago when terraria mobile was stuck with 1.2 it allowed you to copy a world for a backup, so I'd just backup my world and grab all my bars from my valuables chest ad infinitum, it was nice because it basically was a diet journey mode at the time, helping reduce some grinding
The infinite fishing glitch will by far be my favorite. Also just cuz I remember who I used to watch for Terraria back in the day. I believe it was pedguin and formerly known as Terraria help, "Edward". :)
"...infinite amount of them, which you can sell for a profit" has stuck in my mind forever
I remember the Invincibility bug video from Yrimir getting uploaded like it was yesterday.
Item Transmuting(Philosophers stone setup) is in my opinion the most op glitch, you can gat every item from something like a door
2:09 King Slime get bald D:
Such a great video to hype us leading up to 1.5!
i remember literally all of these older glitches.. man. good times lol
Does anyone remember the vortex beater glitch it was more op than the zenith
This is tje first time in within a minute of an upload
Really well put together 👍
Terraria has changed a lot since I first played and now is still the best game
It is fun to see how the gameplay influence the community and it's reactions. By being a non-competitive game (mostly), glitches and exploits don't give the player a advantage above others. Most of the time, they will get a lot of rewources or access to things way earlier than intended. That's why I see that Terraria community is relexed by the existence of glitches, what other genres would cause a outrage.
“an oversight with titanium armor and allowed you to become-“ **title card plays**
I know one duplicate glitch too
What's weird about the infinite fishing glitch is that a very similar bug was present on console as well (I don't remember which version, but this was around 5+ years ago).
I think you forgot the item frame any item duplication glitch
It got fixed on 1.4 release
In Terraria 1.2 I had the game set in Italian and sometimes it could happend that you lose your item when refining it. For some reasons it occured 0 times after i set my game back in English!
I’m surprised transmutation wasn’t covered here. I don’t mean shimmer btw. There’s a really tedious but overpowered exploit using bast statues, campfires, doors, and torches to get any item in the game before fighting a single boss.
I remember the glitch where you and another player would both take something from a chest at the same time, it was great for money duplication
I remember using the chest glitch, always used shadow chests and always made a lot of coins from it 😂
If you put 2 teleporters on top of each other, and put any monolith on top of that, and then activate the monolith, it will dupe the monolith
I remember duplicating golden chests using the second method you showed for it on terraria mobile when I was little. I miss those days 😭
I found out about the fishing one completely by accident when my friend was teaching me the game I thought it was hilarious
