This is so fundamental... I figured why my tracks sounded kind of muddy or lacky of punchiness, started to search why; some person told me it wasn't related to the EQ, but to this, which I had found by investigating. So now I'm lacking of mids. I do love doing tranceish sounds, which are usually very wide and stereo, and now I see what I was doing "wrong". I was putting too much stuff in the sides, the kick was only in the mid with a bass and that didn't sound glued.
one thing i would add though for the people reading is that these corrections are being done in Solo mostly to show how midside affects audio, however in your production always try and do processing while the mix is playing so you do changes according to the context of the mix not to make the solo audio sound better, since it might not fit with your mix.

Please i have a suggestion. I would love to have a detailed video on how to create hip hop / 808 drums. I mean how to use equalizers on the drums , to have a clean sound, and professional. ✌😊 thank you
im having an issue on my mid side eq'ing and the side eq only seems to work when a reverb plugin is on. even when I have channel rack completely bare, I can't get the side eq to work unless there is a reverb plug in. I have no idea what I am doing help.
What if you only have fruity Fire Edition... And you can't use Patcher... 🤔.. I know I should get all plug-in edition.. prices is a little steep at the moment.. It'd be really cool if you did a video on doing advanced things with small additions...
for some reason the histogram and heatmap arent visible in my side eq but when I change the graph it definitely works, anyone know why that might happening? yes i have made sure they are enabled
I hope somebody reads that but if i use the side splitter the sides sounds mono. I have a left and right vocal channel both panned and these go in a srcond channel with the splitter on it .
This video has changed my life. Lol, seriously tho thank you for this! buy far the most useful knowledge on mixing. You made mid/side eq easy to understand. The before and after of my tracks...wow tks again.
I downloaded a beat from RUclips it is going left in the correlation meter of Span i.e it has phase issues Can anyone suggest how to resolve this, would be of great help❤️🙏
Brother, I don't hear any difference in sound during your demonstrations. Please help. I know Mid/Side eq'ing is a fundamental tool and works well, but for some reason I just can't hear any difference. RUclips compression? Untrained ears? Bad audio equipment? I have studio monitors and headphones, so I doubt it's gear.
😂😂😂.. I swear everytime I try using stereo shaper to try to understand it and get familiar with it.. in a couple of minutes I just replace it with d stereo enhancer, or a 3rd party stereo imager.. now I know I'm not alone 😅
@@exeza By the way, you can also mid/side EQ your synths or instruments too, as well, applying effects to each. For example, it's commonly used to put reverb on the sides instead of in the mid, while other effects are used to be used with the mids and not with the sides. Regarding EQ, you will like to have the low end of frequencies parts in the mid, and the high end of them in the sides. So bass need to be put in the mids regarding the stereo field. Snares too, even thoug they are crispy or more into the 500 Hz domain, they remain at the mids. It's also related to how punchier you want your mix. If the snare or kick is in the sides kind like you won't hear them as much and impactful if they're in the sides. Yet the snare can be in both; the body of the snare in the mid, the crispier sound if it at the sides.
I've tried this technique before a long time ago, used to do it for years. You'd be better off getting Fab Filter Pro Q 3 for this honestly. Way better results.
Unfortunately, no. That's not how you'd go about it anyways. In case you want to use Mid-Side processing by having the Mid of the sound in one mixer track and the Side in another, there is a way to do so. What you'd do in this case is route the mixer track containing the sound(s) to which you want to apply Mid-Side processing to two other mixer tracks. In both of them open the Fruity Stereo Shaper. Choose the preset Mid in the mixer track with the Mids, and choose the preset aSide in the other one. Then, you can process the Mids and Sides separately in the mixer. Although, I'd always recommend Patcher for parallel processing like this. But, you do you.
First, make sure everything is routed to a mixer track. If you have multiple things routed to the same mixer track, it will be exported on the same stem. Then when exporting, make sure “Split mixer tracks” is selected.
interesting a quick question i routed the mix bus twice on two separate channels of the mixer and used stereo shaper on both .On one channel i put the mid option the other channel sides option then i balanced to taste is this a viable thing lol
You can do it with 1 stereo shaper on the main channel with mid side preset in the stereo shaper just make sure you sidechain the main channel into another one. And yes it is viable. I do that sometimes to the songs to boost sides when you almost match mid and side volume levels it sounds very pleasant yo me, with headphones of course. İt would be too muddy with speakers.

mid-side is another term for sum-difference which is used in lots of stuff. What's in common, and what's not in common.
Personally I use the Ozone mid-side EQ, it's amazing, but with this video now I have a better understanding of the concept, nice job as always ;)
This Really Breaks Down Mid/Side EQ, To A Degree That It’s FAR MORE UNDERSTANDABLE!!!
Going To Apply This Using Patcher.

Is the low-cut in the sides replacable with making all the low frquencies(like..below 250Hz)mono with a maximus on the master track?

But why should I cut the Highs on my Mid Chanel?
Think Mid-Side EQ make sense if you want to cut the lows on the sie chanel...
Do i cut the all the side on a bass (808)?? Or just the first 300 or so
Does putting low frequencies in mono with plugins like ozone work the same?
Yeah - download my patcher preset pack I've made a free replica of the ozone multiband imager!

Can you apply Mid-side eq on all of your Busses(Drum Buss, pluck buss, etc)??
Thank u very much

😂
can we get a tutorial on pads? i can never figure them out. i never know what kinda pad to search for or even how to make my own pads.
Could you achieve this by sending your bus to 2 tracks and making one mono and one stereo through the mixer? And disconnect the bus from the master

please make a video on exporting stems in most efficient way, exporting stems on FL is very time consuming
First, make sure everything is routed to a mixer track. If you have multiple things routed to the same mixer track, it will be exported on the same stem.
Then when exporting, make sure “Split mixer tracks” is selected.
