  • It's been a little while since we've driven a W204 Mercedes-Benz C-Class. We look at what this car has to offer 8 years after production ended.
    Support PRN_TestDrive when you purchase through Amazon. Here's the devices we use to film and edit this show:

    We love our older luxury cars here on TestDrive. We've had the pleasure of driving two other W204 Mercedes-Benz C-Class models over the years including another 2013 C 300 4matic with a different colour combination and options, and a 2011 C 63 AMG. Today we're looking at a higher mileage model to see if these are good purchases in 2022 and what you should be on the lookout for if you're in the market for one. This 2013 Mercedes-Benz C 300 4matic sedan is finished in Obsidian Black Metallic paint with beige leatherette interior.
    This C 300 has the 3.5L naturally aspirated V6 engine producing 248 horsepower and 251 lb-ft of torque with a Mercedes-Benz 7G-Tronic automatic transmission. 4matic is the only way this vehicle was configured in Canada and gives us the best idea of how this vehicle is to live with on a daily basis here in Québec during the winter.
    We go over the different features found on this car along with some of the common problems and issues with this generation C-Class. We then take it on a winter road test to talk about our fuel economy test results along with the Toyo Observe G3-Ice tires we have equipped on this car.
    We discuss the reasons why you might be interested in buying a 2013 Mercedes-Benz C 300 4matic in 2022 along with how this car performs, drives, handles, and feels along with our thoughts on the market for them.

      I can't argue with you there! When I drove this car 5 years ago I did a 2016 C-Class right after, sure the interior has more buttons and tech but the design of this generation just nailed it. Unfortunately the new design language for Mercedes-Benz is really just a Xerox machine, I can't tell the difference between the new S, E, or C-Classes anymore, they all look identical. At least with this generation they made each unique while keeping a common design theme across the models.

    So grateful that I can find someone on the taller and chubbier side to review this car! I test drove it last year, when thinking of purchasing it, and was devastated to find that I could not fit in it. Perhaps the sitting adjustments were just poorly made, so hopefully, this video will show that. It is my dream car so I want to fit it badly!

      This is now my personal daily drive. Yes, it is a bit tight for someone my size but it's not awful. Overall I'm happy with the comfort on this given the size, only downside is the door locks stick up on the trim, so when I put my arms on the top of the doors with the windows down those end up sticking into my elbow.

    I bought this car 5 years ago and I absolutely love it. The only major problem I encountered was replacing the rear subframe this year with only 68,000 miles on the car. Luckily here in the states Mercedes is now covering the cost to replace free of charge. This repair would have cost 6,000 dollars! Aside from that the car drives beautifully. I intend to keep this car until the wheels fall off. Once you drive a MB it is hard to contemplate driving a plain Jane Honda or Toyota.

    my friend has had one of these since 2017 and he hasn't had to do any big maintenance on it except an alternator. Drives pretty great, not the most luxurious ride (I'd go with a Lexus IS personally), the only gripe being the cost of oil changes and the such being more expensive. Sure you can get it done at a garage but when dealing with these types of cars, some people prefer to have the peace of mind of going to a dealership to get servicing done (don't heckle me on this, i personally always go to my trustworthy garage). Speakers on it are great too. All in all, if long term reliability or repair costs aren't an issue for you, go ahead and pick one up ! It's still a great car to drive and gives the power you need when you need it. I do feel that the interior doesn't feel the best but it more than does the job. And even though i wasn't a fan of the design early on, i grew accustomed to it and even started liking it over time.

    • @IM-qy7mf
      @IM-qy7mf 2 года назад

      I can easily return results for 150k miles for this car; what do you mean "if long term reliability"? Despite the actual reviews and ratings, commentaries from actual mechanics and long-term car reviewers, AND owners, some of you will simply not let this bs trope of mUh uNrELiAbLe mErcedes die.

    • @amzab123
      @amzab123 2 года назад +1

      @@IM-qy7mf understandable, my comment was simply made from my personal experience. We’ve always had Toyota/Lexus cars at home and they’ve all surpassed 400,000km with the only maintenance being oil, brake, and suspension changes. The three times we’ve owned German cars (Audi A8L, Mercedes ML350, and Audi S4), they’ve been generally unreliable, the ML in particular is at 350,000km give or take and I don’t know why we still have it. This year alone it’s spent a cumulative three full months in the garage for separate engine and electronics issues. So although I can understand that we may have been unlucky, it’s good to note that this is my individual experience with these cars. Maybe it’s also that considering the mileage we achieve with our cars, my interpretation of ‘long term’ may be longer than most consider.
      Oh and before it gets mentioned, we’re the type to do preventative maintenance on all our cars. It just so happened that the three cars mentioned above seemed more unpredictable than the others

    HI, the 4Matic was not available on a C350 sedan in the US, only the C300. The coupe C350 was the only model on the C class that had the 4matic available other than the C300 sedan, was that different in Canada? I do own various Mercedes Benz, including a Moded C300 Sport 4matic AMG avangarde, with the is 722-964 w/ Code 427 transmission. Not all C300 Sport package included this transmission. Which is the AMG Speedshift MCT 7 speed, multiple clutch unit, instead of the basic automatic usually found on the C300 . Also in other Mercs you will have the DCT which is a speedshift double clutch automatic. Mine includes the AMG suspension and due to that is a little bit lower and stiffer as well.

    Nice car. I think its styling has held up very well. I personally prefer the sharper lines of the W204 over its rounder successor. I have always bought used cars, but targeted cars with relatively low kms. My philosophy on that is changing though, as supported by your higher km example here. A car that has very low km can actually be problematic because of lack of use. A high km car may be indicative of highway use which is low wearing on the car. Even if used in city driving, a high km car usually has received reasonable maintenance to achieve the high kms. Regardless, pre-purchase inspection and buying from a trustworthy source are keys to risk control.

    • @amzab123
      @amzab123 2 года назад +1

      Not PRN but i try to keep my car clean during the winter. Personally i get my car washed once a week, preferably before a dry period (no snow), and if it's announcing freezing weather overnight i make sure to brush all snow off beforehand. That and brushing the excess water off my car after getting it washed. In quebec though there is no way to keep a car clean. Best you can and should do is try to keep the salt off of it as much as possible. And pro tip; when brushing snow off your car, don't use a brush style broom but rather a squeegee style broom. This will prevent any snow from being left on the car to get dirty and will have your car looking clean and fresh after a snowfall !

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  2 года назад

      I do essentially what Barely Operational does, I just have to be strategic about when I film. For this car I took it through a coin-op at night when the roads were relatively dry/clean allowing me to get it as clean as possible. I then took care to get it home where it stayed in a heated garage overnight so as much of the water could dry off. You can see some snow/dirt on the rear end in the video, that's just from driving it about 1km to get to where I film B-Roll, so it's really hard to keep it clean unfortunately.

I change my oil 3 - 4 times a year, and I use royal Purple, and over tie, the performance improved. if you want the 205, start with the 2019 models. Mercedes fixed a lot of things starting in the 2019 c300 models. The did the same with the C43 AMG too. This 204 4-matic has only 250 horses, and yet, I was able to hang with Japanese cars with 300 - 330 horses. And, I am about to buy the 204 C-350. I really cannot imagine not having two of them----250 horses and the 302 horses versions. The gas mileage is impressive for a V-6 if you keep the eco on either in comfort or sport mode. But, the eco takes away some power. With eco on, this thing will match a 4 cylinder in gas mileage.

      Sounds like a good deal considering I paid $9k for 220k kms. So far mine has been really good, we’ve published a couple maintenance videos since buying this talking about the overall reliability, they should be on our TestDrive Garage playlist. The W204 is generally considered one of the most reliable modern Mercedes models. Oil changes are once a year or 15,000 kms, at an independent shop should cost you about $200-$250. Aside from that I haven’t much go wrong, I did the brakes a little while ago, along with servicing the parking brake. My A/C has a leak, which I’ll need to get addressed in the new year, but even that with aftermarket parts and labour could be less than $2,000 to have it completely renovated.

      Since you’re the only one who figured it out I’ll let you be the first to know. I ended up selling both Focus’, the electric went up for sale in December but I wasn’t able to trade it in until a couple weeks ago. The dealer that gave me the best deal had this C-Class available and it made the most sense from a convenience perspective. I really loved the Electric but I ended up getting stranded in Montreal with it and couldn’t take that risk anymore. Plus some other things are happening behind the scenes here and it’s going to make more sense for me to have a car that can drive more than 185km at a time.

      @@PRNTestDrive I hear that. I sorta had a sneaking suspicion that the Focus Electric was on the way out. Seemed like a great car, to be sure, but just not right for your particular circumstances. Anyway, congrats again, Nile. I think that C300 is a sharp car and is definitely you. 😎

      I'll try to get one filmed! I've been pretty busy the past couple months between editing the new car stuff for James, working full time, and being in school part-time. The Mercedes overall has been pretty solid though, made the journey to Ontario without issue, passed the safety inspection at M-B London with flying colours, and recently had another inspection with oil change, along with checking the A/C as the refrigerant was empty. I'll see if I can make something happen early this month video wise!

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  6 месяцев назад

      That's a bit on the high side no doubt, but it depends on service history and overall condition. If it's been well maintained then you shouldn't have to worry about any significant issues, but chances are you can find one with less mileage, unless it ultimately comes down to price. There's nothing more expensive than a cheap Mercedes.
