  • It is quite easy to use the intellectual discourse or ideas just to be more sophisticated at defending the lies we want to believe. A lot of people just study a topic to confirm what they are inclined to believe, rather than approaching a topic to discover truth.
This is a clip from episode 4, “Why you should read fewer books” from my podcast “Philosophy in Real Life”. In that episode I talked about why The obsession with “quantifying wisdom” needs to stop, and also 5 tips that, as a Philosophy PhD student and as a student of life, have proved to be insanely helpful!
Tip #1: Read about what is bothering you.
Tip #2: Read books to be changed, not just to get more information.
Tip #3: Study to discover truth, not to confirm preconceived ideas.
Tip #4: Pick the right book for the right season.
Tip #5 Create a space for learning in your life.
