- This video was very emotional to make. It was a video that you never want to have to make. Starting a business your are so passionate about and then having to close it all down. We had 4 wonderful years on our U Pick Flower Farm in Zone 7b Long Island NY and this video will be the last one on the farm. I filmed it during sunset and I have to say it was the most beautiful sunset I have ever seen on the farm. Let me share with you why the farm is closing and our plans for the future.
So sorry to hear, praying you find what you're looking for. You can come flower farm with me, although, I'm in GA. Have a safe trip to NC, prayers
Thank you for the kind words. We're hoping to stay on Long Island for the farm.
That's right Claudette - ANYTHING can happen at any time. One of the keys to a good life is never be shocked at what happens in life. You'll find a block and I look forward to seeing your NEW flower farm!
I have farmland and will let her use it for free. Joe The Grower in Poughquag. Plenty of parking
Thank you so much for your kid words :)
Her loss I tried to help for free land
@@hortonsflowerfarm5098 I have 4 acres available for free.
This may not be the case, but it does appear that the owners are finding your flower farm is taking away from their wholesale business and you were used as the guinea pigs to see if your "project" would work in this location. Don't be surprised if the owners take over your business. Good luck in finding a new location where you live and prosper.
When he told us he wasn't renewing the lease he assured us that he wasn't going to use it to grow cut flowers. I do believe him, so hopefully thats true
@@hortonsflowerfarm5098 I have heard so many stories where flower farmers lose their leases after clearing the land and making improvements. I sincerely hope you find another location that will allow you to use your experience!
If they do that, they will never have any luck for it.
@@Parmesito I agree with you 100%!
I’m so sorry to hear it! You were really a beloved part of that community and hopefully someone will come through with land for you. Thanks for shari your last sunset there and good luck!
Thank you! The sunset was a perfect ending to that chapter
Aww girl I’ll be praying you find your dream spot. I have enjoyed watching you❤️ & eager to see you get your dream again.
Thank you! I appreciate your kind words!
I'm sorry about you and your husband losing your flower farm. I really enjoy your videos and talks about your farm. God bless you and your family. You'll find some land, and you will come back. So, until we meet again take care.
Thank you so much!
Claudette I am so sorry 🥹 I hope you find the perfect piece of land soon!
Thank you Beverly!
Prayers to you and your family, that you find some land to grow on. When one door closes, another opens, many times better than what was before. Im sure its very difficult to say goodbye.
Thank you!
Why not grow at your new digs in South Carolina? It’s easier if you are closer. I’d also take apart your cottage garden and re-use the materials. Take your irrigation as well.
We wanted to come back to NY to visit our family in the summer while running the flower farm. Yes we will be taking the irrigation and I have definitely thought about taking the cottage garden apart!
Hello from Joe The Grower in Pouughquag Trying to help with free Farmland
Hi Joe, I really appreciate that! We are trying to stay on Long Island for the farm.
May the good Lord lead you. I was a long Island girl. I grew up in St. James. I now live in Florida.
Thank you :)
This is a hard lesson to learn. But with ANY business you have to own the property. Leasing gives you no control.
Unfortunately 1 acre on Long Island is $200,000 to buy so it isn't an option to buy. We were on 3 acres so it would have been $600,000 for just land! The land is very expensive.
Never invest too much into someone else’s property unless you can afford to lose it.
We leased land for a bit but then purchased it.
I totally agree. Unfortunately 1 acre in NY is $200,000 to buy so it isn't an option. We were on 3 acres so it would have been $600,000 for just land! The land is very expensive.
Hope you still have a house in NC.
Yes we do, fortunetly!
Just found your channel today. Are you gonna take the plants w/ you? I hope you can. If not perhaps you can let people come dig them for pay. I hate to see you leave all these fit the owners.
The only perennials I have are some heirloom mums that I just put in the ground this spring. They were expensive so I will most likely take them! Everything else is annuals except for the rudbeckia.
Hello from Joe The Grower
Joe The Grower cut flowers and plenty of parking.
So would you go to NC for the winter and back to NY for the summer for the flowers? I'm confused. You just bought a house in NC - sounds like you were planning on moving - or did you buy the house because he didn't renew the lease. It's tough to live in a situation that can be yanked out from under you through no fault of your own.
Yes. Very confusing
Yes we had bought the house in NC before we lost the land. Our plan was to travel back to NY to run the farm from May-August. All our family is in NY so we would spend the summers in NY running the farm and being with family
Why I’d you lease land ? N good for you for starting a business, but why not borrow money and buy Land what or use your savings? I heard land was pretty cheap in America. I’m not sure how many acres you have but if you’re going to run a farm who is better to control ownership, I would recommend buying more land that you need, then renting out part of it by dividing up into small lots for paddocks et cetera the income you get for service plots usually be enough to finance the interest on your loan, but that way you control all of it. Alternatively set up a crowdfunding page and attract investors by offering them free flowers from your you pick .. you could set up a loyalty program with different levels, based on how much people invest or donate depending on the system you set up anyway I watch till the end now I’m only a couple of minutes in😊😊 good luck
I offered her free land but she does not reply. Joe The Grower
