Ah I remember this fight. One of the worst robberies I have ever encountered. Thomas Hearns clearly won this one no doubt. Although competitive, It was somewhat one sided due to the knockdowns. That should've surely given Hearns the win easily. Even the crowd and spectators at the fight chanted "b#llshit" when the decision was made. How any judge gave the fight to Leonard is bizarre to me. Btw, I scored it 115-111 to Hearns
the first two rounds I hardly give them to any fighters (since no significant damage was made) the 5th round was a 10-8 for Leonard but I disagreed with the judge who scored the 12th a 10-8 Leonard. There were a lot of decisive rounds for each fighters but more indeed in favor of Hearns. I guess because Leonard could turn the fight around anytime and was dangerous at all times might have given him an edge in some rounds to one of the judges. Great fight!

Ray, the Golden Boy of his time received another gift 🎁 Floyd jr. would’ve schooled Ray Leonard and Leonard knows it in his heart. Herns would’ve been a better fight for Pretty Boy. Pretty Boy Floyd would’ve beat Sr 10Xs in the same night back then no disrespect to his father but you created a monster in ur son along with Roger but you taught him to fight. I want Ray to stop thinking because he won against his dad that he would beat Floyd because I just don’t believe he could. Sin quitar que que junto a los otros 3 grandes fue un grqn boxeador, pero contra hears 3n la primera pelea, perdía claramente, y el juez detiene la pelea faltando un minuto para que terminará, eso fue un robo!, en la segunda contra hears le dieron en el empate, donde también perdió claramente, contra hagler, otra pelea muy discutida, sin claridad en nada para declararlo ganador, contra Durán en la primera ya todos sabemos y en la segunda fue una victoria clara ante el desgano de Durán. The fact that you are even mentioning Mayweather speaks for itself. These fighters are all great but Floyd Mayweather Jrs timing and ring I.Q. is second to none. I can see him beating all these guys, especially when he was in his mid thirties

As with hagler , hearns was built up the bad ugly guy and sugar ray as the good looking boy next door sugar ray lost them both but, but got the decisions, the only way hearns and hagler would have won is if they knocked sugar ray out , he was held as the all American dream
It. Was a good fight that Hearns won more rounds in and no doubt should have won but somewhat Ray always comes with a 30 second flurry after nearly every fight. I also believe that Tommy would have beaten Hagler, had he not broken his hand in the first round that left him defenseless.
Leonard finished the fight the stronger I reckon, but the fight was really close .....despite the Leonard knockdown.....he still had Hearns going there at the end!
These gentlemen are legends. Watching these highlights I realize that the match was closer than I originally thought it was. Hearns may well have won but it wasn‘t easy!

There was this hispanic kid, who was getting rough during sparring with Tommy here at Top Level gym, he was swinging as hard as he could. Stupidest damn thing I ever saw, it's like he thought he was going to upstage Tommy in front of everyone, and Tommy knocked him out of the ring and he came up pulling teeth out of his mouth. I am sure he regretted it. Tommy hit him really hard in the mouth, you don't mess with a guy like Tommy during sparring. lol.

One of the most memorable fights of the 80's when the middleweight kings were dominating the headlines. Hagler, Hearns, Leonard, Duran. Tommy won the rematch even though the judges had it a draw. The great champion that Leonard was even admitted to it later on, just like Ali admitted years later that Norton won the 3rd fight.
he said that shit the same day. he said I didn't feel like I won. Ali out pointed him tho, Norton got em the first fight. 2nd fight ali fucked em up. third fight was a gamble. Norton landed powerful hits but it wasn't that often. Ali was landing like 40 punches a round on Norton head.

Irrespective of the outcome, it was a very exciting fight. Both boxers were victors on the day. Why don't we see boxing fights like these anymore. Do we have to wait until the 2080's to see boxing like the 1980's again.
I don't know what happened to boxing but somehow that generation of boxers are leagues apart from the last few years. I doubt if that could be disputed. I just don't know why. These guys were absolute brilliant.
In the last round Hearns just need to stay away from leonard and keep on jabbing to win this match. But due to his warrior spirit he went for the offensive and the match ended up in a draw. Hat off to both legends.
So many Leonard haters on here, but to be fair I thought Ray Leonard showed what a tough competitor he was! Yes Hearns had the two knockdowns ( though the second was more down to sheer fatigue than anything else?) but the way Leonard fought back, and especially at the end, he was all over Hearns , and indeed Tommy was very fortunate to have been still standing up right!! So all in all, I think a Draw was the fair result here…..but unfortunately some people just like to hate Ray Leonard???

Hearns can be vicious and brutal. Punished Leonard hardcore and the fight was clearly his. Leonard, although is tough, is usually favoured when he was clearly outdone. Saw this with the Hagler fight as well.

I watched both fights and I’m convinced that Sugar Ray had some powerful influencers behind him that made sure he didn’t loss. The 1st fight was an early stoppage and the 2nd fight was a complete robbery. 2 great fighters but too much political antics behind the scenes. 😔

Agree.. The Hitman should've won the first fight, too. He had a big lead entering the 14th but got TKO call despite his Ok condition to Box on. He wrecked Sugar Ray's Eye pretty badly.

I was there and Tommy Hearns won the fight. they didn't want Ray to suffer defeat. Hearns was robbed.
The judges ruined what should have been considered one of the better fights of the era, with a blatant fraud of a decision.

Tommy won the rematch even though the judges had it a draw. The great champion that Leonard was even admitted to it later on, just like Ali admitted years later that Norton won the 3rd fight.
he said that shit the same day. he said I didn't feel like I won. Ali out pointed him tho, Norton got em the first fight. 2nd fight ali fucked em up. third fight was a gamble. Norton landed powerful hits but it wasn't that often. Ali was landing like 40 punches a round on Norton head.

Just watched this fight again, close it was, lots of clean punches from Leonard, but 2 points a round knock down, hearns won it 3-0 on the card, bent judge been around for ever, shame for hearns, hagler was so lethargic against Leonard i think he had covid 1,

Irrespective of the outcome, it was a very exciting fight. Both boxers were victors on the day. Why don't we see boxing fights like these anymore. Do we have to wait until the 2080's to see boxing like the 1980's again.
I don't know what happened to boxing but somehow that generation of boxers are leagues apart from the last few years. I doubt if that could be disputed. I just don't know why. These guys were absolute brilliant.

In the last round Hearns just need to stay away from leonard and keep on jabbing to win this match. But due to his warrior spirit he went for the offensive and the match ended up in a draw. Hat off to both legends.

So many Leonard haters on here, but to be fair I thought Ray Leonard showed what a tough competitor he was! Yes Hearns had the two knockdowns ( though the second was more down to sheer fatigue than anything else?) but the way Leonard fought back, and especially at the end, he was all over Hearns , and indeed Tommy was very fortunate to have been still standing up right!!
So all in all, I think a Draw was the fair result here…..but unfortunately some people just like to hate Ray Leonard???

I think the popularity and goodwill of Sugar Ray got into the head of the judges and influenced their decision...in real life many factors play a role in making decisions, Hearns would have won ouright if he'd scored a knockout, I think Hearns won but such is life

Hearns can be vicious and brutal. Punished Leonard hardcore and the fight was clearly his. Leonard, although is tough, is usually favoured when he was clearly outdone. Saw this with the Hagler fight as well.

I would say it was an even fight. But you gotta give hearns an extra 2 points for the only knockdowns and that gives hearns the win in my opinion.
I watched both fights and I’m convinced that Sugar Ray had some powerful influencers behind him that made sure he didn’t loss. The 1st fight was an early stoppage and the 2nd fight was a complete robbery. 2 great fighters but too much political antics behind the scenes. 😔

Every fighter has that rival that brings out the best in both of them. Sometimes it’s the respect they have for each other or the hatred. However, whenever they fight its brutally beautiful violence . Like for Muhammad it was Frazier...Barrera vs Morales....Pacquaia vs Marquess.....Holifield vs Bowe..... Gotti vs Ward etc. this is why these guys can fight 100xs and you gonna watch it 💯 X’s.
