Not the only one, it's one of my favorite games because it had one of David Bergeaud's best soundtracks imo which remixed motifs of songs from the earlier games like RAC 1 and RAC 3, and also it features that classic Ratchet gameplay (although different because of the PSP engine) unlike what it became later with the PS3 games that didnt feel the same. I also prefer it over Deadlocked, which deviated from the formula quite a bit, and I wonder if High Impact formed and made Size Matters precisely because they felt the same way and wanted to return Ratchet to its roots, or attempt to anyway. While I dont enjoy Secret Agent Clank as much and it's in a different ballpark for understandable reasons being a spin off focused on Clank gameplay, it still retained some of those same qualities from the earlier games. Overall, even including Deadlocked, the 6 original PS2 and PSP games were my favorite (RAC1,RAC2,RAC3,Deadlocked,Size Matters,Secret Agent Clank).
Also those original six games (RAC1,RAC2,RAC3,Deadlocked,Size Matters,Secret Agent Clank) are very equivalent to the 6 Jak and Daxter games (Jak and Daxter The Precursor Legacy,Jak II,Jak 3,Jak X,Daxter,The Lost Frontier), with Jak X changing up the formula and expanding on an element from the previous game (combat racing/vehicle gameplay from Jak 3) like Deadlocked did for arena challenges in RAC 3/2, The Lost Frontier much like Size Matters being a return to the earlier style of gameplay and developed by High Impact games (though I do think Size Matters is probably a better game than TLF), and Daxter being a spin off focused on the sidekick character like Secret Agent Clank was (though developed by Ready at Dawn instead of High Impact, which was made up of former Naughty Dog members rather than a combo of former ND members and former Insomniac members). I wonder if Jak and Daxter had continued into the PS3 era and beyond like Ratchet did, what it would look like. I feel like I might still prefer the OG 6 Jak games like I do for Ratchet. Also I wish that Sly PSP game had ended up being made.
As a old R&C fan I've got much more negative view at this point. There are few main factors which causes that the new game will be on 2029. 1. R&C series it's not the best seller. All in all those sales reports of Rift Apart shows that this IP it's not a good system-seller. 2. Insomniac Games it's bussines company. They have to do $$$. They won't look at fandom which it's getting smaller each year. Instead of it they've got much more better IP's to make money (Spiderman & Wolverine). 3. There was a huge leak of files from Insomniac Games. There was only information about new R&C game on 2029 - nothing else Best what we can get it's a poor remasters. We won't get anything special. That's the reason why I even stopped playing games. Now I just left with cool soundtracks from OG. R&C series from PS2. (Tabora Minig Area It's the best soundtrack ever - try to change my mind! :P)
I'm very glad I replayed Size Matters. It definitely gave me a new appreciation for it. I did play it on the PSP all those years back, so i got to re-live that nostalgia a little bit.
Size matters and Secret Agent Clank were already in the system from their port to the Vita. The original trilogy was, infamously, very difficult to remaster due to the way Insomniac built those games. They'll probably get round to porting the original trilogy after SAC and Sly Cooper. ANY PS3 exclusive will be a massive undertaking to port over/remaster due to the cell processor that many/all PS3 games were built to take advantage of that the PS4/5 don't have.
I love R&C. Always have done since I was a child. And I’ve gone back and collected so many platinum trophies for each game. Problem is however, is now I still want to play these for trophies. So if it’s a port of the old games, well I already have those. So I’m more hopeful for that full remaster of each. A grind for the platinum on each game again AND a beautiful graphic overhaul?! Hell. Yes.
Why is this even a question? The PS2 games are much more complicated to emulate than PSP games and the Ratchet games especially are some of the most difficult ones to get working, the only ones that might be comparable are the Jak games and I think we all know how well that turned out. Also from Sony's perspective all the PS3 games have been available on PS4 and PS5 through streaming for quite a while, which they unfortunately probably consider good enough for games that old.
I just think that they’ll do SAC and then when the ps3 emulator will be eventually done we’ll get all the other games. My dream scenario would be to have all the Ratchet and Clank games on one collection, kinda like Kingdom Hearts, but I seriously doubt that will ever happen.
I hope you're correct! Its what we really want. But for me, i got sick of hoping so I got a ps2 and a retrotink and have already replayed the first 3 games in their original form.. but with the stereo system I didnt know I was missing out on when I was a wee lad
I think it was that Size Matters was the easiest to emulate. It's been stated that the PS2 games were a pain to navigate through, and PS3 probably doesn't have a good emulator yet. I don't think Size Matters being first actually means anything for anything
I assume we will get secret agent clank now that size matters has been released. Would definitely be sweet to get any of the ps2 games as brand new titles on ps5, as long as the movement plays closer to the OG games. Thinking that using the hover boots in rac 2 would just feel wrong haha
Im really hoping this does happen, I would love for people who haven’t played the game series to be able to have that chance on newer consoles, not needing to worry about having a ps2 and ps3, and not having to stream it either, it would be nice for new people to try out the series, i know Ratchet: Deadlocked isn’t everyone favorite from the entire series but I really love the combat in the game, but I understand because it’s a lot less of exploring planets, but maybe we can get both of worlds like we can the old ps2 ratchets games and have single player and multiplayer on it. Also love the content I enjoy watching videos about my favorite game series
The reason they ported the PSP spinoff first is because it was much easier to port. The PS2 titles are notoriously difficult to work with since they utilize that consoles specific features that don't exist anywhere else, hence why they chose the PSP version of Size Matters and not the PS2 one.
Oh man a full remake of the first rac game would be the dream! I emulate it at 4k but still that’s nothing compared to rift apart. They better not change any of the voice lines or style of the game! I loved the edgy style and the more gritty look of ratchet. I always felt like it was a dig making ratchet all cute and pc
Good video! Despite all Size Matter’s flaws, it did scratch my ratchet and clank itch for a bit, enjoyed my time for the most part, outdated controls be damned. Your thoughts on using the recent engine with new remakes would be amazing… would actually make me believe SIE listens to their fans. We’ll see!
I found out that to unlock zoni skin on secret agent clank you must pause the game to cheat and scan on size matters save file and you get free skins but it's for psp unfortunately
If they went with the re-porting games route, Bluepoint could possibly port the PS3 versions of OG trilogy to PS4 and 5 Also, fingers crossed for the the remaining games to get Steam ports
It’s definitely a very interesting theory you’ve got going but quite personally I think it’ll just be the standard PS2 versions that get ported to PS5. Similar to the first Sly Cooper game which rereleased back in June. Apparently it’s really struggling on PS4 right now but I played the PS5 version anyways. I do think we’ll get secret agent clank first, then the PS2 games on modern consoles, and finally all the PS3 games later on if Sony can get the technology working on PS5. Only time will tell.
well...if original trillogy of ratchet and clank comes out on ps5 with new ps 3 emulator I will be happy to platinum trophy them again because I really enjoyed them
Honestly it could also be a test run. If size matters sells the way they want it to. Then yes more ratchet and clank which is good for us. If not then well we will be sol for new ratchet and clank.
As much as I loved the trilogy of the OGs, I don't think they are remaking them. Spider man took 4 years to develop and 2 years to release a game that was basically DLC but that was as they worked on the actual number 2. I would love to see a complete remake of Ratchet and Clank and if they do, hopefully a change in 3 of which they wanted, but i think these are a short cash grab to keep the same team members working on the game, cause as we all know, if you ain't moving in a big corp, you getting fired as a department.
I would honestly be surprised if the PS6 is not out before the next R&C game at the rate they are going. Like your second speculation about them remaking the original games, I can only hope that they also include an official way to play them on PC. Not sure if Rift Apart did well enough on Steam to justify that though.
I think they are releasing Size Matters for profit reasons. Doesn't make sense to release these two after the epic classics, it just wouldn't really sell. That said they are then obviously planning on releasing the fan favourite ones and since R&C is so beloved I could expect an upscaled version of them and at best a remade graphical enhancement. Changing the game mechanics or adding dialogue I don't think is going to happen since I think this project will always be half ported as in not made from the ground up, fucking around old code and changing the source material is not a good idea anyways. Keep it real.
Either speculation would be awesome and I really think Insomniac Games and Sony should get Bluepoint Games to help with this, as that company is the master of making game collections, remasters, and remakes of PlayStation games. If they ever do I think they should make a collection disc of the Future saga first as not only would that be fun (especially getting trophies for TOD and QFB) but those games would be really helpful in getting newer R&C fans caught up on everything related to the Lombaxes and on characters not scene and/or mentioned in Rift Apart. Also with how much info that got revealed related to non R&C content in the leak, I personally think Insomniac Games should put a pause on those projects and after Wolverine and any Spider-Man 2 DLC should get to work on the next R&C game. Heck I'd be okay if instead of the Lombax Dimension game they worked on a ITN length game about something else like a prequel game about Ratchet's father.
@@CommentingCommenter yeah of definitely wouldnt mind a shorter side story kind of game like quest for booty or into the Nexus. That would help us survive the wait til then next game unless they plan to release it sooner
@@buninja5604 Indeed. It is also another reason why Bluepoint Games should get involved as while Insomniac Games works on a new R&C game, Bluepoint would focus on releasing/re-releasing the older ones.
I want all the Ratchet and Clank games on PS5 I know it will take some time for the PS3 emulator But I think there's a chance we can get the rest of the games on there I hope so.
To be honest, I don’t think any R&C games will be coming for a while. Insomniac has franchises that are doing much better unfortunately. I think the Marvel games will eventually crash like the MCU films as of now. Just a matter of time, but in the meantime they are selling extremely well and Insomniac and Sony will keep making them if they continue to sell. Unfortunately, this causes a problem at Insomniac to dedicate all their time on those games versus Ratchet. So, long story short, once the Marvel start to fall, then that’s when we see the next R&C game.
Honestly I kinda wish it would be true but I don’t think so. We’ll get SAC this month on ps plus premium and then we’ll wait for the ps3 emulation hopefully. After that long silence and in 2029 next title.
Considering that they released the PSP version and *not* the PS2 version of Size Matters on PS4/5... I think the PS2 games are just harder to emulate on modern consoles. The PS3 trilogy is riddled with visual glitches and animation errors and PS3 Deadlocked is by far the *worst* looking version.
@@Theguywhosaprinceofthedark not a remake as in redo everything i mean give it a fresh coat of paint with updated graphics and mechanics and buffed optimisation options
I don't want to be a downer but, I believe they put Size Matters on PS4/5 just because they're in the process of bringing over the PSP library. I am expecting Secret Agent Clank to come at some point, but other than that, I think the Ratchet community as a whole is seeing this as something bigger than it is. Obviously I would love it if all the games were ported or re-released considering most of them are stuck in PS3 Game Streaming, I just don't feel like they're doing anything special with it. I would be happy if my comment aged poorly and we get literally anything.
@@crano8202 yeah I definitely understand the unlikeliness but it's definitely a possibility for something bigger. I will not be upset if I am wrong, just hopefully that I'm not lol
Either a remaster or a smaller spin-off. If the ps5 gets ps3 emulation I'll finally get a ps5. Not a fan of how sony handles their legacy library, xbox wins on that topic.
They have been porting a few ps1 and psp games to PS5 now. Probably easier than ps2 games. Considering that you can stream many of the games they went for the one stuck on psp/ps2.
@@tapz02 yes and no. They could have started working on it after the breach. Or it was barely in the works. I mean the leak was really not much about ratchet except a speculated release date with some concept art.
I'm not feeling the theory that they're waiting for PS3 emulation to bring over the HD versions of the PS2 games. The main difference visually is the increased resolution, which can be achieved with PS2 emulation anyway. The same can apply for the Sly trilogy but they just re-released the PS2 version of the original game instead. We're likely still years away from official PS3 emulation. I think the reason we're getting the PSP games first is simply because PSP emulation is a lot easier. PS2 needs a bit more tlc, and PS3 needs a lot more than PS2. We know that the PS classics are being worked on by a small team.
@@JCSA79V I don't think we are that far from official PS3 emulation. But I really don't know. The PS3 is definitely a powerhouse to emulate so you may be right
I doubt any type if port fir the original series (or ps3 games) will happen due to one thing: you can stream them already if you have ps premium. I highly doubt Sony will do anything more than that. And insomniac won't be the ones to port it anyway, you can tell their main ficus us on the slider man series now. Ratchet and clank is not making them the money it used to, which could be why they are taking linger and longer to make new games for the franchise. If the games don't make hood money, they would rather put their resources in other places, thus smaller teams on ratchet and clank, this longer wait times in-between games. I theorize that ratchet and clank will maybe get 1 or 2 more games until it becomes like the jak series and die.
@@metroynome I truly hope Sony sees that streaming them on ps plus is abysmal and laggy. I am definitely aware that ratchet doesn't sell like it used to but I think rift apart was definitely a step in the right direction for the franchise. You are right though we dont have long til they pull the plug unfortunately 😭
You’re talking about the PS5 or the PS4 doesn’t have the PS2 trilogy games but it’s already there as PlayStation plus premium. Just a PlayStation 3 remaster.
I’d be shocked if they remade the ps2/3 trilogies, and not just emulate them. Personally I’m more than happy for emulated versions. I can’t see them remaking them, that’s wishful thinking.
In 2029 we will most likely get the PS6… would have been a shame to make the whole new engine and everything for rift apart. So it makes sense that they would release atleast one game (or games) for the PS5
@@dom0_2007 that could be it. But I think it would be so much smarter to at least put them on the console without it needing to be streamed. Steaming is sooo horrible and ruins the experience

I think the PS2 games will come to the new PS2 emulator and to be honest i dont think we will ever see the future trilogy games. Theres a lot of talk about a PS3 emulator for the PS5 but i'll believe it when i see it, also Nexus a tough game to emulate on RPCS3 with a powerful rig. If the future trilogy is to come to PS5 i think they will have to be ported and not emulated.
@@buninja5604 well i think ports/remasters would be best, full on remakes would also likely take atleast 5 years and i doubt insomniac have the bandwidth for anymore projects like that right now. the fact there was nothing mentioning the PS3 games in the leaks is incredibly disheartening.
By the time I’m watching this video it’s WAYYYYYY too soon to tell if you’re right or wrong😂 Edit: just watched the entire thing, why would they add more voice lines in the remaster?
I am sorry to tell you that, but you obviously don't know anything at all about game development. A project like you described would take probably around 6 years to develop, probably even longer. It just doesn't make sense at all, like zero.

2:20 If they do that, they would proparly impliment widescreen patches in the game(The game crops the image in widescreen mode)(PS2)
If they remaster the ps2 trilogy i would genuinely cry tears of joy, just hope it would be on PC as well though
Press left twice, right, up, down twice and X and scan size matters safe file
If they went with the re-porting games route, Bluepoint could possibly port the PS3 versions of OG trilogy to PS4 and 5
Also, fingers crossed for the the remaining games to get Steam ports
It’s definitely a very interesting theory you’ve got going but quite personally I think it’ll just be the standard PS2 versions that get ported to PS5. Similar to the first Sly Cooper game which rereleased back in June. Apparently it’s really struggling on PS4 right now but I played the PS5 version anyways. I do think we’ll get secret agent clank first, then the PS2 games on modern consoles, and finally all the PS3 games later on if Sony can get the technology working on PS5. Only time will tell.
ratchet deadlocked on ps5 will be awesome
well...if original trillogy of ratchet and clank comes out on ps5 with new ps 3 emulator I will be happy to platinum trophy them again because I really enjoyed them
insomniac remaking the three ratchet and clank games in unreal engine 5 would be cool on the ps5
Honestly it could also be a test run. If size matters sells the way they want it to. Then yes more ratchet and clank which is good for us. If not then well we will be sol for new ratchet and clank.
@@forrestkimball6477 well we are already getting one in 2029 but yeah it could be a test run so hopefully it sold well
As much as I loved the trilogy of the OGs, I don't think they are remaking them.
Secret Agent Clank of course!
Size matters was fun as and the thing they did with armour was cool as
I would honestly be surprised if the PS6 is not out before the next R&C game at the rate they are going. Like your second speculation about them remaking the original games, I can only hope that they also include an official way to play them on PC. Not sure if Rift Apart did well enough on Steam to justify that though.
@@needsanameedit4982 I think RA did pretty decent on PC but if it was simultaneously released at the same time they would both sell better I'm sure
Here's my R&C Title: Ratchet & Clank: Between Worlds. But i think that Title is Similar to Rift Apart.
@@ArkhamKratos cool name but yeah it’s similar to rift apart and it needs to keep the dirty hidden message theme
@@psychotic__spoon3243 what about R&C: Armageddon?
Like who would buy 190$ for ps plus prem just to stream ratchet series which is buggy for alot of people when you can get bangers on both consoles
I would love to see a Ratchet: Gladiator remake❤
@@fenixsoftair9834 that would be amazing
To be honest, I don’t think any R&C games will be coming for a while. Insomniac has franchises that are doing much better unfortunately. I think the Marvel games will eventually crash like the MCU films as of now. Just a matter of time, but in the meantime they are selling extremely well and Insomniac and Sony will keep making them if they continue to sell. Unfortunately, this causes a problem at Insomniac to dedicate all their time on those games versus Ratchet.
So, long story short, once the Marvel start to fall, then that’s when we see the next R&C game.
They should make a alternate reality game where allister is rivets father
@@JDM_BUSTER interesting
We need the future saga games of ps3 in ps4/ps5
Honestly I kinda wish it would be true but I don’t think so. We’ll get SAC this month on ps plus premium and then we’ll wait for the ps3 emulation hopefully. After that long silence and in 2029 next title.
Considering that they released the PSP version and *not* the PS2 version of Size Matters on PS4/5... I think the PS2 games are just harder to emulate on modern consoles. The PS3 trilogy is riddled with visual glitches and animation errors and PS3 Deadlocked is by far the *worst* looking version.
@@Ratchetpower2 yeah a proper remaster would do it justice
I want the entire collection for the PC! 🤘🏻

I hope secret agent clank comes to PS4 and PS5 soon. It was an underrated game on PSP but the PS2 wasn’t very good at all!
@@crano8202 they should do that with Sonic Rivals with 1 & 2.
Either a remaster or a smaller spin-off. If the ps5 gets ps3 emulation I'll finally get a ps5. Not a fan of how sony handles their legacy library, xbox wins on that topic.
I swear I saw videos of the Rift Apart beta
and a weapon that isn't even in the game files
What if I told you that Clank's long jump with the hoverboots that is in Into the Nexus was going to be in Rift Apart?
@@VIR269 I would have loved if they did that 😭
DEADLOCKED.
They have been porting a few ps1 and psp games to PS5 now. Probably easier than ps2 games. Considering that you can stream many of the games they went for the one stuck on psp/ps2.
I believe psp games are much easier to port to ps4/ps5. Ps2 games tend to be tricky, you might remember how laggy the Jak collection was upon launch.
It would be awesome to see original trilogy remakes; however, I still think I would prefer the original games.
@@RainbowMan9407 well it would be nice if they did both. Remake the games but also released the og PS2 ones as well
wouldnt og remakes atleast show in leak?
I think it's because all the other r&c games are available with PsPlus streaming
@@dom0_2007 that could be it. But I think it would be so much smarter to at least put them on the console without it needing to be streamed. Steaming is sooo horrible and ruins the experience
@@buninja5604 yes but that still takes time, with secret agent clank they can say „All Console R&C games are playable on Ps5“, they will probably Port them in the future

If the future trilogy is to come to PS5 i think they will have to be ported and not emulated.
@@johnmorgan3492 that's why I'm thinking it might not be the worst idea to remake the games or something.
