Costumer here! The dress didn't bleach because it's polyester or similar, and the fibre is a plastic in the color as it is woven, not a dyed natural material, so there's no way to remove that color. Basically you can't lift color from plastic (though you can dye plastic a darker color if you use plastic dyes). Your green dress would likely have the same result - the yellow might work to tint it slightly if you were using a polyester dye and the water was hot enough, but generally it's a tricky process. I have dyed light colored things darker (fabric, plastic and wigs) with both Rit Dyemore and IdyePoly, if you ever decide another outfit needs a color change.
Came here to say exactly this! I've dyed polyester multiple times, and seconding everything you said - only those two brands have ever worked for me, and you pretty much have to do it on the stovetop or else the water won't get hot enough (needs to be basically boiling). Also, keep a window open because it smells like it gives you cancer; and be careful, because it may stain anything plastic in your kitchen. Finally, the label recommends against using your dyepot for food ever again, so maybe grab an old thrift store pot you're ok with using for dye only!
@@aduckofsomesort generally dying something darker is possible but mixed fiber can be really tricky. You have to get the heat up and sometimes one material just won't take dye. I've been dyeing random things for half a decade now and on occasion I'll come across something that just Won't Take Dye. It's always a guessing game for mixed and synthetic Fibre sadly.
I was going to come post about this, but OP did a great job. So, instead, let's talk about your shoes. Modpodge brush on is sort of the cheap hobbiest sealant you can find in the craft store so your paint doesn't flake off. The down side you can see every brush stroke on anything shiny/metallic if you look closely enough. Your best bet is a spray acrylic sealer for dress shoes. You can find some with a glossy finish. If your shoes are real leather, they make a spray sealer for that, too (online leatherworking or shoe repair shops).
The people upset about formal attire for a gala gives the same energy as people at anime cons getting pissed that the masquerade ball requires masks. Happens every time. The cons always post the requirements too.
They definitely could have benefited from taking the theme 100% seriously, like people LARP-ing at a ren fair or Medieval Times. Orchestral versions of the Shrek soundtrack and other popular songs, turkey and lamb legs, serving gingerbread cookies for dessert, the bar could have been the same tavern from the movie, more seating, the last call to the dance floor could have been the typical DreamWorks dance party ending...so much to do, so much to see
I have epilepsy and therefore am sensitive to flashing lights, so raves are just something I know to avoid. But a real Shrek Gala in the vein of the Bridgerton Ball is something I’d want to go to. So I’d be pissed if I showed up and it became an unsafe environment after only an hour. It seems like Shrek Rave is already a thing and they’re trying to branch out.
I really wish it were more of a Gala because I love the idea of a tongue in cheek Gala that is all about mocking sincerity while having its own form of sincerity at the same time. There is nothing more Shrek than that! I'm imagining something like the Bridgerton Experience, but the performers have scripted accidents like Gingy's gumdrop buttons all falling off throughout the night, Pinocchio's pants falling and revealing women's underwear, and the Fairy Godmother attempting to sabotage the evening. Go with full swamp decor, but make it elegant. Have an outhouse photo booth. Make shirts that go back to the Shrek tradition of mocking Disney instead of the Met Gala. Then name someone Fairest of Them All at the end and give them a little plastic tiara or something, then shift into a rave vibe for the last portion of the night starting off with "Livin' La Vida Loca" remixed to hell and back. Just. COMMIT TO THE BIT.
I’ll be honest the onion eating contest sounds relatively easy as someone who comes from a south Asian culture and grew up eating raw onions 💀 I think $300 is more than generous as a prize for that lol
as a ballroom dancer i WISH i knew about this, and man it wouldve been so cool to dance in a gala setting. SOOOO many of the songs are ballroom appropriate, for example the intro for the first movie is a slow waltz, they really missed out.
@@cigimon4 ive actually danced the cha cha to all stars (it was a remix so the BPM and vibe would be appropriate) , and ive jived to im a believer. it was quite fun lmao
As someone who lives near the self proclaimed “world famous onion fayre” where a eating a 7oz in the fastest time has a grand prize of $25….. and there’s a waiting list every year…. I think $300 sounds great.
About the onion eating, I used to live in a town where a yearly onion eating contest was the big thing where people had to eat an onion the fastest. People would *pay* to participate so yeah, I think $300 is enough for just eating a single one lmao
I’ve been subbed since your Lily Singh late night show vid and I have to say, you are so good at reviewing these events/products and giving constructive feedback to the producers/developers. I love how you also cover events that aren’t heavily advertised or talked about. Your content is unique without being too niche and that’s refreshing
i think it was me and my friends you were talking about when you mentioned the group of girls in ballroom attire. i’m almost positive you came up and gave us a compliment too, but i was so wrapped up with the event i didn’t realize it was you. i had pretty much the same thoughts about the event. i really wish we would’ve seen more people formally dressed, and idk where the confusion came from. but i’m glad it wasn’t too formal because i definitely thought about just getting out of there when i came in and it was pretty empty on the dance floor and there was just live classical music. however it did turn around and get a lot more fun once the rave actually started.
From my experience with college events that mix both formal and themed party events, I would have done something like a full fancy gala in the afternoon, dinner break (not related to the event) and then a crazy rave. So first, people can choose if they prefer a vibe over the other. Second, you can meet people in a way that lets you talk and get to know them, and then after go full party with them if you get along. And third, you have time to enjoy the pretty but uncomfy formal attire then change into wacky rave outfits. Plus, if people start drinking around 4 pm, go eat, have fun getting dressed up, you get a rager early on cause everyone has already started getting wild even before the party started.
Hi there! I was a dancer here! There was actually a professional photographer area and a secondary photo opp too :) Of course a full gala would be so beautiful but people for the past month+ almost two months there was a lot of complaining about the formal attire and how they only wanted a rave. Or how they wouldn’t buy tickets, etc. It’s all just to have fun and a good time and it’s more fun with a huge crowd at these epic venues! Gotta make everyone happy!

Someone at my college now DJ's for a Shrek Rave. She played cello and I'm pretty sure she specialized in classical music, so clearly she's on the right path.
The Bridgerton bridge to audience dancing and participation is a good idea. I’m sure there would have been a number of people who would have tried, but weren’t sure what to do or where to do it without being in the way. Even having a designated ‘swamp’ (area) for ballroom dancing. The suggestion of leaning in to professionally photographing and posting great fits/costumes is fun. They could offer to upload them up to a public album where people could download their images (everyone who participates in the photo stop by the entrance) and also selectively highlight/feature particularly great pics on social media. [[Note: it should be clear to everyone and clearly posted that images officially taken at that photo stop would be posted in both public album and possibly shared on social media.]] I think a lot of folks were unclear as to what the event might be. Your video as well as the accounts of other attendees will likely make that more clear for any future follow-up events. :)
You can't bleach, but you can dye with dyes formulated for synthetics. Rit (I think) has a line of liquid dyes for synthetic materials. You can even dye synthetic wigs with it, which is great for cosplay. The lace picked up some color most likely because it was a blend of natural and synthetic fibers. You can dye (and somewhat bleach) blends with various success depending on the ratio. Colors might be more muted or fade out quicker with blends.

Shrek Rave is a fan run event, as far as i know.)
I'm a bit gutted now because Shrek Rave did a show in Montreal a while back and I hesitated to go, it wouldn't have been a full Gala event, it was just the rave in a small venue bar called Club Soda. I would have loved to have just seen the crappy visuals for the dj sets, but would have probably had a blast overall.
10:08 The extra apostrophe in "Gala's" would automatically make me not want that shirt. Though it kind of fits in the with the comments from the official social media where they don't use capital letters. It just feels unprofessional from an event you're paying for to have the social media manager writing like they're a 12 year old. It especially might lead to fewer people thinking it's fake/a scam.
This is the earliest I've ever been for one of your videos. I love the idea of a Shrek-themed gala because my friends have always joked about me sounding like Shrek because I'm Scottish.
I mean the obvious answer for the confusion is a two night event (or an afternoon event and then a night event). Most of the set up (dance floor, lights, DJ) is already there for both types of events, maybe just change up the layout of things like drinks and green carpet. Specifying that the Swamp Gala is a formal event that will have stage performances and audience participation, while the Shrek Rave is just that, a rave. MetroCon in Tampa had a masquerade ball on night one that was formal attire required and was a mix of a dance and a play, and then just a big rave party on night two in the same space. Not impossible to switch from one to the other on consecutive nights, but easier for people who only want one experience or the other ($25 for single event, $40 special for both with GA sort of thing).
You touched on it a little but I totally agree that they should have stuck with the more Bridgerton vibes! They could have picked like a “best costume” couple and done like a nominated king and queen like they did with the “Diamond of the Season” at Bridgerton. I was dancing with one of the actors and was later picked as the diamond!! It was so much fun :)

As a hardcore raver/any kind of that kind of nonesense I have to say you are right when it comes to raves. Super super fun - but if you aren't fiending for a hot sweatbox of people jumping around crammed in together with lazers and drugs and insane music, then don't go. Amazingly good fun if you want it, a fate worse than death if you don't.
i mean, i don't think "who cares? cool is dead" and "formal attire" are opposite sides though like casual rave clothes? that's cool that's nonchalant. Be earnest, dress up, be cringe and cosplay as you favorite character from an old kids movie
When Shrek Rave came to the NorVa found out last minute and there were so many cool costumes, though wished for a bit more Shrek music ao glad they seem to have added to it. Would love to go to formal Gala style though.

7:05, i’m in my university library making notes & im losing my absolute shit 😭😭
I have never been more jealous of someone before. I would love to go to the Shrek Rave 😭😭
i just wanted to say i adore your content so much. most of the videos you post aren't even on topis i would otherwise be interested in, but i LOVE hearing you speak about anything. you have the perfect balance of everything and your videos are so entertaining and informative and i adore every one of your videos.
13:06 got me all emotional 😭😭
Your hair while leaving the event was GIVING!
@Ville_x I do, have a good night!
ville i hope you spill red wine on your white clothes while you're outside.
Im enjoying these event videos so much!
They pluralized "gala" with an apostrophe on the T-shirt. :(
A three person quartet would be a trio.
The merch should say "I went to Swamp Gala and all I got was this Shreksy shirt"
I love the idea of a couple sharing how they met and them being like oh ya we met at a Shrek rave galla
That's super cool Swell, have fun!
Every time you post a new video I grab my coffee and settle in to chat. Love it thank you for sharing with us. I never knew there were so many events!
i mean, i don't think "who cares? cool is dead" and "formal attire" are opposite sides though
like casual rave clothes? that's cool that's nonchalant. Be earnest, dress up, be cringe and cosplay as you favorite character from an old kids movie
Who cares, wear a ballgown, life is short and cool is dead.
That is a vibe to take from that sentence and that's what I got!
Im dying at that angle you showed your shoes off 🤭 you go gurl
"lucky for me, it's a real thing - i got inside" lololols
24:30.. hell, i never know until you upload... always entertaining.. no dumbing down.. found you by accident.. lucky me!!
I like your idea to fix the gala sounds more fun than what was going on before, i hope they see this video!
Things are fun, come have fun.

Do people not know what gala means? It's in the title of the event....
9:25 i believe thats Spock (friend of the TMG podcast) DJ’ing!!! 💚
I feel like you need to start offering consulting for events
The green carpet, swamp dance area, etc etc
When Shrek Rave came to the NorVa found out last minute and there were so many cool costumes, though wished for a bit more Shrek music ao glad they seem to have added to it. Would love to go to formal Gala style though.
outdoor camping raves are the best you can just walk away from everything and chill at your campsite whenever.
im goin to a 1000is person psytrance rave. once a year every year Sacred Earth Open Air by The Chilluminati
9:22 I'm pretty sure that's Spock!
He's worked with Cody and Noel on TMG, and some old That's Cringe episodes. At least that's how I know of him.
omg i thought i was going crazy when i was the only one getting ads for this swamp gala!! cant wait to hear you talk about it
Shrek is Love.
Shrek is Life.
I went to Shrek Rave in Minneapolis earlier this year and it was such a vibe
Just saw the into, sounds like a good time. Lol
i dream about the day I go to an event and just randomly bump into you.
