    I am currently looking at this lens for my ZV-E10, and this is the first low light test on an APS-C sensor that actually shows stills and video in low light, at low ISO and 1/50 shutter speed. Thanks for tipping the scale for me, definitely going to grab this to replace the ol' kit lens.

    I really really admire your videos, specially the comparison ones. I don't know how to say this but the way you compare specific gear, it's nothing short of extremely creative and very very smart (and rare).

    Sigma really is cementing itself as a great lens manufacturer, would love to get this for when I can't carry around the set of trinity primes. Size, weight, and price all are a win for the Sigma over the 2 other comparable options.

    Useful video, it helped in my decision to purchase this lens for our A6600. Had a Sony FF but with a 24-70 it is just too big to carry around theme parks etc. Thanks!

    I was eying the sigma 56mm but since this in close to the price range, only a couple hundred more I might have to consider it. The slow shutter shot is fire Stuart!

    I own an a6500 and I'm saving up for an a6600. Previously, I had the sigma 16mm and 30mm lenses in my radar but because of your video, I'm seriously considering this lens.

      @@StuartRodwell Interesting so I have the 16mm and can afford to get the other two. They are currently on sale in the US for a combined $670 vs the $540 I could spend on this ($130 will not break my bank). You would say it is a better investment to get the other two?

    You mention that there is distortion at 18mm, but doesn't Lightroom automatically fix that? Lightroom was updated in December to support this lens, and others have said that the distortion is handled by Lightroom automatically.

    • @StuartRodwell
      @StuartRodwell  2 года назад +1

      Yes, whilst it's not completely automatic (you still need to click 'Enable profile corrections') this will generally fix most issues. I am, however, finding in some cases that I also need to make some tweaks in the 'Transform' panel too. Hope that helps.

    • @toms3485
      @toms3485 2 года назад

      @@StuartRodwell Thanks for the response. Are you sure that this is a lens issue and not simply related to the fact that wide-angle lenses in general will make things look weird and distorted in some cases? Even with the kit lens, at 16mm, I feel the desire to use the Transform panel at times.

    • @StuartRodwell
      @StuartRodwell  2 года назад +1

      @@toms3485 Yes you're probably right Tom - I think where I normally shoot on the 30mm or 56mm - I'm just not used to seeing that much distortion

  • @Akagami753

    I am a complete beginner and i am buying my 1st ever camera(a6600) and lens in May after my exam. I'm confused between Tamron and this Sigma. Can you please tell me if this Sigma is good for me. My photography demands are landscape, mountains trees, street,etc (.. basically nature and people). Your insight is very very important and helpful for me.

    • @Mandelrot
      @Mandelrot Год назад

      I got the ZV-E10 (similar to the a6600) a while ago, with the Sigma 18-50. This lens is absolutely great and I've used it in many different scenarios, from talking head studio videos to street/people photos and much more. Its performance and quality are really good. This is not my first camera but I'm still kind of a newbie or at least far from being an expert.
      I had the same doubts you do now, and I went for the Sigma because the quality is similar, the Sigma it's cheaper, smaller and lighter, and the Tamron 17-70 extra features are not important for me (basically stabilization + longer focal lenght). If you do care about stabilization and price, dimensions and weight are not an issue, the Tamron option is the one for you; otherwise I'd go for the Sigma.
      Besides this, if learning is one of your goals... Two weeks ago I got a super cheap manual lens (TTArtisan 50mm f1.2, under 100$) just for fun and learning. I'm super happy with it, of course that's not a high level lens and you can't expect pro results, but it's really fun and the results are beautiful indeed. And a manual lens makes you think and care more, so I believe this is a fantastic learning option even more taking the low price in account. If you are interested in landscapes maybe a 35mm would be better for that (TTArtisan and 7artisans have very cheap 35mm options I think) but my point is that you might consider this kind of low-cost manual lens as well, as a "learning side project".
