I need off-road adventure, powerful hill climbing engine, eye-catching appeal, and the emotion that Thar carries.
However, I can't spend 15-20 lakh for a car which can't be used as a family car in the city, in which my elderly parents can't sit.
I wish Thar had a five door version for being used as a family car in the city.

Dude commo, the way you rate THAR, it seems you're on Mahindra pay roll. How about the front seat 50:50 ratio, which makes a person extremely tired to reach the rare seats, particularly somone who is over weight or even 90+ weight. Then the rare seat comfortability, with no AC vents for rare seats at all. How on earth ?
I had a trip to Ladakh, believe me two guys who were back there on rare seats were so anxious and choked due to rare window glass permenant closure. Though you can have a clear landscape view through glass pans, but what about air for breathing ? Yes, I'm talking about hard roof variant. The price this muscle SUV comes with, imagine you have no movable glass pans there on rare seats, which makes a person totally chaotic, choked and frustrated, particularly for long off road trips.
More importantly, the price Mahindra is taking from customers for THAR is huge, while as the basic features like projector head lamps, integrated DRL's, automatic climate control, LED fog lamps, electrical adjustable side view mirrors, rare view camera, and rare viper are totally missing in this hyped SUV, and I hope they are not even planning it for the future THAR upcomings.
Thar agar true 5 seater hoti toh zaroor leta. But won't think twice for the upcoming 5 door version. I swear..

Anytime. Sahi bola. But bolero ek UV hain. Aur uske interiors and suspension comfort long term use mein irritating ho jaayenge. Also the power delivery is not sufficient. Iss time pe toh koi bhi brand true 5 seater or long base 4x4 SUV offer nahi kar raha hain under 16 lacs. I guess Mahindra hi karega yeh, with the 5 door Thar.

Great Review, Rightly Said, Thar is an Emotion, No need to test it for off roading, its quite capable, what the catch is, this is now equally comfortable and can be used like a daily car.

1) 5 doors with little more booth spacing
2) length should be equal to Polero or bit less by inches is gonna be good
3) milage should be improved by 2/3 points
4) back door panel should be made more smoother finished product to prevent leakages.

I am greatly relieved by this reviewer's emphasizing the 4X4 aspect of an SUV's core competence. As he rightly points out, the bulk of the segment is populated by FWDers masquerading as SUVs. When in reality they are just hatchbacks (both large & small !) with high GC. Or as popularly - and pejoratively - referred to as hatches-on-stilts-and-steroids. I feel the term is unfair but it gets the point across.
The other reason (as you too have highlighted) why I have booked the Thar is the 4-star NCAP rating. The waiting period is certainly long but I feel sure that it will be worth it.
not unfair at all to be honest. An SUV stands for Sport Utility Vehicles. Sport being Offroading and Utility being its load carrying, tugging, towing capabilities.
Most of the CSUV or FWD SUV lacks the offroading part. Their utility itself is missing. You can call them SUV all you want, but they do not perform any of the functions of an SUV.

Thar is a good vehicle with a very refined engine but does any one talk about the shortcomings and how Mahindra has tried to save money with some cheap tricks? Here are a few:
1. Mahindra provide a manual spare key, not a remote lock and unlock key which we get even in basic car models.
2. Automatic model does not have a dead pedal which is a must.
3. They consolidated the window open and close buttons which is annoying as it is. They should have provided auto window up and down at a bare minimum. This is so unsafe. If you get down without closing the windows then it is such a pain. Real cheap.
4. Cheap seats, driver seat moves when the brakes are applied.
5. Rearview mirror is very small and does not provide a complete view.
I was about to buy it as I m off roader... Now m sure what to do! 👍
Please tell me about Thar diesel driving experience..because i have taken a test drive it was quite good but it was not that smooth compared to xuv 300..i felt a bit bolero type feeling with more power obviously ..road presence is ultimate 🔥
you are comparing two very different cars. XUV300 is a city car. Thar is an offroader. That lack of smoothness translates into raw power that will take you up steep inclines and rough terrain. The XUV300 will say 'Lol fuck off' and break down if you try to do things with it that a Thar can.

I think Altroz with two airbags is inferior than i20 with 6 airbags, I do prefer safety features over the crash test results, anyways Thar is just ❤️
Do not compare Tata car to Hyundai in build quality. I have seen an accident between them. Tata is far better.

Build quality matters much more than airbags. If build quality is better 2 airbags are sufficient but if build quality isn't good even 10 airbags can't save. Put 10 air bags inside baleno and it still can't score 5 ratings

Booked my Thar on 2nd October 2020, still waiting, finally the dealership in Hyderabad promised me delivery next month. They booked it as Red when it was clearly not my choice and I opted for Black, Diesel, Automatic top end, they say that if it was manual or petrol they could have delivered it early .. Don't know whether to believe them ..

Really stood out in the parking lot.
No doubts excellent car. The presenter is speaking more like a spokesman for Mahindra’s. I would have loved to see the off-road capabilities of the vehicle.
This vehicle would be on top if offer with five doors in same version with open-able rear windows and little space for back trunk .

It's a 2-seater that fulfills a very niche space. Most people seem to be going for it only because of its butch looks. Back seat is super uncomfortable and there is hardly any storage to make this even remotely "practical" for a family of 4. It's good as a second car.

After completing the spiti trip we are stuck in Manali from past two days..our 4months old Mahindra Thar got towed due to some OBD Check Lamp warning..the car is not able to pull beyond 1500rpm. The Mahindra service center tried to reduce the soot mass for last 2 days and now they are saying ordering a DPF filter is going to take another 7-8days and we will have to wait for it. Also they are saying fault is with us as we didn't do Regen while we didn't get any Regen warning.
They are also saying they can't share the data now ,even after 2 days of analysis.
DPF filter costs 70k and doesn't come under warranty. Even we were ready to pay just to join office in time, but now they are saying it will take 7-8days to get the DPF filter. Go for any other SUV it is just a good looking car and will make you feel you are driving a powerful car but it is just the feeling but in reality it is unreliable
The 4x4 gearbox or the Transfer Case for is manufactured by our very own Indian company i.e., Divgi Torqtransfer Systems Pvt Ltd located in Pune... They are a very passionate bunch of people and produce these transfer cases with an amazing technology that's not known to most people.

Yaar is gaadi ki length agar 300mm aur badha de so that 2nd row seat me aur space mil jaaye aur 2nd row seat ko aur comfortable kar de like under thigh support.....Ventilated seat kar de...AC ko aur powerful kar de....fir iska koi mukabla nhi hai fir price chaahe increase kar de no problem....at least humare jaise luxury pasand buyers ke liye option de do ....jo made in India me believe karte hai aur quality me bhi.....!!!

Simple if you want Thar wait than taking something today which would not be that satisfying. A car is not a human necessity rather than a want hence you wouldn't die waiting. As motor octane says "sabar ka fal meetha hota hai"
