the main reason for drop in price is TAX reduction due to engine size falling below 1.5L . In India if a car has more than 1.5L diesel (regardless of size) the tax is 48% but the moment it reduced below 1.5L the tax for sub 4 metre car (Thar, Nexon diesel etc) is 31% and for above 4 metre car (creta diesel, seltos diesel, carens diesel etc) is 45%.
Edit:- The 4x2 instead of 4x4 also greatly reduces the price. Almost about same as this tax reduction due smaller engine.
(Thar 2.0 petrol LX automatic AWD model is 2 lakh more expensive than Thar 2.0 petrol LX automatic RWD)

Bought June ‘23 thar has broken down 4 times and got it serviced they can’t detect any faults . Stops in the middle of the road while driving almost causing accidents what an agony for a 4 star rating thar .. I WANT FULL REFUND .

So AX varrient at 9.99 lakh misses out most of feel good features including Alloy wheels
LX cost 13.90 on road .

Pricing ain't a concern. I don't think Thar would be able to take Nexon/Creta/Venue/Brezza 's place as they are a perfect family car. Well but one things for sure that this would definitely increase the sale figure of Thar.

1. How inconvenient it would be for rear passengers to get in and out of the car.
2. Rear passengers may feel claustrophobic as glass can not be rolled down.
3. What about rear boot space?

Mahindra claims that Thar 2WD is more lifestyle oriented so if you remove the 4x4 from Thar at least add an arm rest, a fabric roof like other lifestyle cars. And considering the fact that they are going to increase the prices in the future, there is still no grab handles in the 3 door Thar.

What about 5 door Mahindra Thar 4x2 ?
2 wheel drive & 5 doors.
I chose the xuv300 to the Thar at close to 18 lakhs on road, because the xuv is a full family car with doors, creature comforts, 5* safety features and space for 5. The thar will never be able to replace a car like the xuv300,creta,Breeza etc. And even if it does it will always be a compromise. A normal 4 door is utility that cannot be replaced by the thar.
However an unmarried person or just married couple can buy one as their primary car, but for others it will have to be a second car just for the oomph, be it a 4x4 or just a rear wheel drive.
Also a ton of youngsters I have met lately don't consider car ownership, property ownership a priority.
Car ownership is a liability for majority of youngsters, they mostly prefer cab or flights

Nice video. Mahindra is doing pretty good in suv. I would have love if Toyota and Ford could introduce their FJ CRUSER and Bronco in India before discontinued. People would have loved it.
Best option/Move by Mahindra would be giving 4x4 option in 1.5Lt Diesel engine as it will then have both good mileage and 4x4 capabilities (since torque already is 300Nm).
It will also be cheaper than the current 4x4 diesel.

If you regularly go for drives or outings with family, if you have to carry luggage and all then i20 would be a family friendly deal but if you are solo or if you hangout with 2 people and rarely with more than 2 without much luggage and want a lifestyle vehicle then thar would be the best

Jimmy 5 door 4x2 will deliver a knockout punch to the thar. IMO the 5 door Jimmy 4x2 will be much cheaper than this and the 5 door Jimmy 4x4 will be priced at par with this 4x2 Thar. Only advantage of the Thar is its size and road presence.
How would Thar be bigger in size? I think even Jimny is going to be a sub-4 m just like Thar.
And btw, imagine if they launched the 3 door version of Jimny with 4*2. They could've even priced it around 6 lakhs..

Well in the case of 4*2 Nexon Diesel can perform as equal to Thar.
Remember Nexon has the highest ground Clearance in Sub 4 meter and a very good design.
Approch angle departure angle etc name k bhi cheez hoti hai
RWD has more capabilities then also
Plus Nexon can be used as a family car too ...means for all use cases be it daily commute to office ( won't look bad )or long journeys (more comfortable than Thar) or off-road (Ladakh/Spiti during season with 260 nm Torque) .
A 4*2 Thar can't do Ladakh Spiti in Winter neither can a Nexon .

I seriously don't understand why Mahindra is not making bolero new little more premium and features with automatic gearbox, and a petrol option. I Feel bolero new with automatic will give tough competition to creta.
Even if 3rd row is removed and 2nd row is made more comfortable with ample of boot space and leg room is more practical.

I don't understand the need of a thar without a 4x4... You compromise on the comfort of the car (as compared to other suv segment vehicles) just so that this is a proper off roader.... If it doesn't give the traction of a 4x4,i might as well take a xuv 700 awd or a scorpio N...
