- after two long years, it's finally here! what a journey this project was, and i unfortunately wasn't able to finish it fully the way i had wanted to
so much has happened in the time i spent working on this - moving multiple times, getting a job, and just moving on from hlvrai to other interests. i probably would have been able to see this project through regardless of all of that if it hadn't been for the fact that in late 2021, my computer's hard drive stopped working, and i was only able to recovery about a fourth of the files i'd had on it. i lost the entirety of still feel, all i had left was the work in progress videos i'd uploaded unlisted here. i had up to the chucky cheese scene fully lined and colored, and it was just all gone. there wasn't really any coming back from that. it was definitely a pretty heart-breaking moment because this project meant the world to me and realizing i wouldnt be able to see it through to the end sucked a lot.
but i am still really happy with what i was able to accomplish here. i cannot even begin to describe how personal and important this project has become to me. even though i didnt get to finish it, i still love it a lot. hl:vrai changed my life in so many ways. i would not be where i am at today if not for this silly youtube series. i'm glad i was able to make something that i think reflects the love and passion and gratitude i still hold for hl:vrai, its characters and its creators.
all that aside, thank you for watching. i hope you enjoyed it as much as i enjoyed making it.
and on the very off chance that wayne or anyone from the rtvs crew happen to see this, i just want to say thank you all for doing what you do. your videos and streams and humor are so inspiring and truly mean a lot to so many people. finding hl:vrai, and then your streams and community changed my life for the better in so many ways. thank you.

coming back to add this: please for the love of GOD don't bother leaving comments asking about their races or ethnicities. if you want to see a video about a bunch of plain old white men you can check out someone else's animatic. these designs are very precious to me and it's fucking disgusting how many comments ive had to remove that were either racist or largely inappropriate.
note to none-artists: don't ever ask stupid shit like "why is (insert character) black" or whatever; you are just being racist! it's called artistic freedom of interpretation also known as, i draw whatever the fuck i want because it hurts nobody and only allows me and other people to represent themselves and feel represented where they otherwise wouldn't have. learn to deal with it or stop consuming art lol.
no but literally WHY are the black, painted nails, all this weird quirky shit. These are video game characters, with actual skin. ON TOP OF THAT, THEY ARE REAL PEOPLE VOICING THEM. Isn't this what white washing is but you can get away with it because "uwu they're dark skinned" ???? The V/A's might be weirded out, confused.. Just confusing and unnecessary.
OH MY GOODNESS, you know what this made me realize? So Gordon goes back into the past, wakes up Dr Coomer, and destroys his passport right? Dr. Coomer was normal before he found out that they’re in a video game. And Benrey follows Gordon around originally because he doesn’t have his passport, so Gordon went back in time and caused the whole thing. So it’s kinda like a time loop situation? Like he’s always destined to go back in time to cause problems for his past self.

God, HLVRAI was a fucking journey. One that has legitimately changed me in some small way. This AMV is fantastic, and it brings back a lot of the great memories I'm going to harbor for this series for the rest of my life. Glad I came back to see this finished, and I hope your proud of the masterpiece you created here ❤️

dude, this is a fucking kickass animatic, all the characters have so much personality to them! I absolutely adore Bubby's rocket ship heels and coomers arms, and their expressions are perfect, they display so much emotion and its incredible. this will forever be one of my favorite animatics of all time, this is the level of cool I want to be when someday, like, a whole FOUR GODDAMN MINUTES!!! ALMOST ALL FULLY COLOURED, SHADED AND SMOOTHLY ANIMATED, YOU ARE SUPER COOL MATE. I love when artists take a story or a silly video series and put some depth into the characters and making their own little stories, while still keeping the original in mind. I can tell from this video the Benrey didn't want to be the villain and after all is said and done, you can see he regrets it. He just wants to be with them.

Seeing this upload just now gave me some amazing emotional whiplash I haven't felt in a long time, and I'm so glad you were able to complete the project even with all the hardships that came in the way. Regardless of how "finished" it is, it's a damn treasure with so much heart put into it

I already left a comment but I've been rewatching this and I have more to say! The expressions on everyone?? And your designs?? Amazing! When Coomer shoots his clone in the dumpster and the LIGHTING of it?? Incredible. The scene change from Coomer falling to Bubby in his tube is also my favorite transition tied with the rocket to bullet. And the bittersweet end gets me every time

I recently got back into hlvrai again, and I absolutely loved your little coomer wip that it got me into the band. And to see this mostly finished is just awesome you did amazing despite everything that happened in the making!!! I'm proud you persisted to get to the end!!!
When you posted about the hard drive loss I was hollowed. Having seen the few things you had posted before that it was "wow damn this will be fantastic!" - let me say, for the record, it is STILL FANTASTIC. It is beautifully thought out and executed, and somehow even the 'unfinished' final presentation seems very fitting indeed, given the song itself. You done good.

I love the concept that Dr. coomer only sees himself, and others, as bits and pieces of code, nothing more.
I had this music video recommended to me about a week ago, and I almost didn't watch it. I'm really glad I did, because it really highlights a lot of the deeper aspects of the series that I hadn't even considered. It's fucking beautiful and you should definitely be proud, especially after having to start over basically from scratch. What you have made here is something incredibly meaningful, and I sincerely hope that the people involved in HLVRAI see this some day, because it's fantastic. I've watched a bunch more music videos made about the series, but I think this one is still my favorite, because I keep coming back to it. It's something about the facial expressions, the humanity in which you draw all of the characters. It gives them life, which is not to say that the others don't do the same, but this one just feels different. God, and the last scene where Wayne is sitting alone in his room, that fucking got me the first time. It's so tragic and beautiful and just very very well done. Thank you for making this, and I wish you nothing but the best in life.

I might be a year late to this BUT the amount of EMOTION and FEELING you put into the characters is awesome and I loved how you put in each of Gordon's milestones that he faces!! And at the end when he takes the headset off and contemplates what just happened, he can still feel that Coomer, Bubby, Tommy, and Benrey are still right there with him. So epic.

I can't believe it. I was literally rewatching the whole series including the commentary. Just when I thought I've seen everything, I get to watch this. This just captures the characters in their finest. God, I can't believe a bunch of fictional characters got me crying :[[[[ The way Benrey just gets sad during the boss fight, the way they're just THERE with Gordon in the end, oh my god WAYNE PLEASE GIVE US A SEQUEL

This is genuinely so amazing and nearly made me tear up, you captured the energy of the height of hlvrai so so well! I remember when the first WIPs came out and introduced me to half alive in the first place, and the second I saw the thumbnail for this I clicked as fast as I could. This is so, so wonderful and amazing and I can really feel the effort and love that went into this, especially considering how much of it you lost (rip computer malfunctions, it’s almost fitting considering it’s about hlvrai but still Jesus that’s a lot of content to loose)
I guess it’s time for me to rewatch hlvrai cause damn :’) I miss these guys

Out of all the characters only benry didn’t get a design, I like to think it’s because he is just so powerful that no matter who draws him, he never strays from his design.

the expressions, the designs, each section dedicated to one character - AUGH i hate (read: love) that i get so emotionally invested in the most goofy silly little guys. god. incredible work all around. look at those transitions to each part. _fantastic_
also, speaking from experience with losing tons of progress on a project, that is _devastating,_ genuinely. kudos for persevering and getting it almost fully re-finished anyway. the final product is absolutely wonderful

I cannot begin to explain how much I love this animatic. I was out of this world excited to see this in my youtube subs box--I still rewatched the wips from time to time! This project was one I've always been excited to see more of, and you exceeded any expectations I had by far. Also, this was the project that introduced me to 'still alive' and half alive in general, and now they're one of my top listened to spotify artists, haha! I'm so sorry about the original files, but I do wanna say that I think any and all work you did on this is fantastic. I hope that everything is going well for you!
